What is the role of a Chaplain?

• To serve Owatonna Police Department members and the community with non-denominational spiritual care; • To provide assistance to police staff giving next of kin death notifications; • To provide confidential services to officers and their families involved in critical incidents; • To attend and present at city council and officer swearing-in ceremonies; and, • To join officers on frequent ride-alongs.

2019 POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR

On May 9th, the Moonlighter Exchange Club honored their selection for the Owatonna Police Officer of the Year—Sergeant Josh Sorensen. Josh is a 15-year veteran of the department currently serving as a patrol sergeant. Josh is also defensive tactics supervisor and firearms instructor and was previously assigned as a detective and school resource officer.
