Pickleball - Academy 12U

This course teaches kids the basic fundamentals of scoring, technique and etiquette of the sport through drilling, instruction and game play. Kids will be placed with others with similar ability levels to ensure fun match play and competition. This class is 60 minutes long and led by Director of Pickleball, Matt Hokanson.

Pickleball DUPR Matchplay

DUPR is a system that works the same way as a golf handicap. All results are recorded and each player will have a DUPR Pickleball rating. All matches played will be recorded and entered into the DUPR national system to ensure every person who participates in DUPR match play nights has an official rating that they can use to sign up for leagues/tournaments all around the USA.

Pickleball Open Play

This Open Pickleball league night is open to all players of all abilities and is open to members and non-members.

Fee: $5/season pass holder and $10/non season pass holder, for three hours of open play.

Tennis - Shooting Star (Red Ball)

This course, designed for beginning tennis players from ages five through eight focuses on learning how to track and make contact with red tennis balls which are 75 percent slower than yellow balls. Players will also learn how to hold the tennis racquet properly. We will also begin to develop groundstrokes through various drills and games!

Tennis - Academy Advanced

This course is designed for players who have varsity experience and have been playing at a competitive level through high school tennis or USTA tournament competition beyond 12U. In this course, players will be developing more advanced strokes, learning advanced strategies, and preparing for competitions and college tennis preparation. A regular yellow tennis ball will be used on a full tennis court.

Tennis - Academy Middle School & Intermediate

This course is designed for players from ages 11 through 18, who have mastered the basic strokes of tennis and are between starting middle school tennis and high school. Players will develop their strokes and learn more about tennis strategy through drilling, playing games and competition between one another. A regular yellow tennis ball will be used on a full tennis court.

Tennis - Young Star (Orange Ball)

This course is designed for players from ages seven through ten who have completed the Red Ball class or have at least a year or two of playing experience. In this course, the focus will be on developing groundstrokes, learning how to hit with topspin and introducing the serve and serve return using orange tennis balls which are 50 percent slower than yellow balls. Players at this stage will use the shortened court with a regular tennis net.

Indoor Play Space

Welcome to the indoor play space, for children six years of age and younger! Our play area is a safe and stimulating environment where kids can have fun, be active, and explore through play. The play space is equipped with age-appropriate activities that encourage physical activity and development. Kids can enjoy shooting hoops on our child-sized basketball hoop, playing soccer with soft soccer balls and nets, crawling, rolling, and playing on soft floor mats. Parents or guardians are required to supervise their children at all times and are responsible for ensuring that their children follow the rules and guidelines of the play space. Daily registration is required.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, children can also run around the gym for additional space.

Open Basketball

Welcome to our indoor open basketball program. We are thrilled to have you here to play basketball in a fun and safe environment. During our open basketball sessions, you will have access to our indoor court, where you can play games, practice your shots, and work on your dribbling skills. To ensure the safety of all participants, we ask that you follow our guidelines and rules while playing. This includes wearing appropriate footwear and clothing, respecting your fellow players, and following the directions of our staff. Daily registration is required.

Basketball - 3rd-6th Grades

This program is focused on developing fundamental skills and providing a positive environment for kids to learn and grow as basketball players. Practices will be held once a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays, to give kids time to learn and practice their skills in a supportive and safe environment. Coaches are dedicated to providing a fun and engaging learning experience that are designed to help each child reach their full potential both on and off the court. Teams will have games on Saturday mornings to provide an exciting chance for the kids to showcase their skills in a fun and friendly competitive setting. Participating in games is an important part of the lear ning experience and allows the kids to put into practice what they have lear ned in practice. 3rd graders will focus on building fundamental skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and playing defense while also incorporating fun games and activities to keep them engaged and excited about learning. 4th-6th graders will continue to build on their fundamental skills and be introduced to more advanced techniques and strategies. Coaches will work with the players to help them develop their individual skills while also emphasizing teamwork and sportsmanship. Registration: 09/12-09/26/2023.

Basketball - K-2nd Grades

This program is designed to introduce kindergarteners, 1st graders, and 2nd graders to the basics of basketball in a fun and engaging environment. Led by volunteer coaches, the program consists of six onehour practice sessions focused on building fundamental skills such as dribbling, shooting, passing and playing defense. It prioritizes a fun and positive learning experience by incorporating games and activities to keep them engaged and excited about basketball.

Registration: 09/12-09/26/2023

Fee: $45 (After 9/26, $55).

Dates/Times: Six Saturdays between January and February

Location: McKinley Elementary School.

Volleyball - 1st and 2nd Grades

This four-week skills camp is led by the Owatonna High School volleyball program. Players will rotate through stations learning the basics and mechanics of volleyball. Max of 50 players. Exact dates will be determined in collaboration with the high school volleyball program and the Volleyball Boosters.

Fee: $30 for 1st/2nd graders (plus a $10 late fee for those who register after August 1),

Volleyball - 3rd - 6th Grades

This volleyball program is a fantastic opportunity for young athletes to learn and develop fundamental skills while fostering a culture of sportsmanship. The league is structured to provide a balanced approach to learning and competition, with an emphasis on developing fundamental skills such as serving, passing, setting and hitting. Coaches will work closely with players to teach proper techniques and provide ample opportunities for skill-building drills and practice during weekly practices on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays. Games will be held Saturday mornings in September and October to provide players with a chance to apply their skills in a friendly, competitive environment. The focus of the games is on player development, teamwork, and sportsmanship rather than just winning or losing. Coaches and officials will encourage fair play, good sportsmanship and respect for opponents and officials throughout the games.

Fee: $52 (plus a $10 late fee for those who register after August 1),

Football - 1st and 2nd Grades

This four-week skills camp is provided by the Owatonna High School Football program and the Owatonna Quarterback Club. Participants will receive a shirt. No equipment is needed. Players should be wearing athletic wear and bring water to drink. Max of 100 participants. Registration: 07/18-08/01/2023

Fee: $32 (plus a $10 late fee for those who register after August 1).

Football - 3rd-6th Grades

This tackle football program for 3rd and 4th graders is designed to provide a fun and safe environment for participants to learn and develop their skills and build their confidence on the field.

This program consists of practices, scrimmages and games throughout the season with a focus on developing the fundamental skills, including passing, catching, blocking and tackling. Coaches will typically work closely with players to help them improve their technique and build their confidence on the field. Volunteer coaches are needed. Please consider volunteering to work with a team. Coaches set their own practice time and location. Tackling dummies are located at Jaycee, Lincoln and Manthey Park pavilions for teams to use. Safety is a top priority in the program, with coaches emphasizing proper equipment use and technique to reduce the risk of injury. Players will be required to wear helmets, shoulder pads and other protective gear during practices, scrimmages and games. Registration: 07/18-08/01/2023

Fee: $87 for 3rd/4th graders and 5th/6th graders (plus a $10 late fee for those who register after August 1).

Dates/Times: Saturday mornings September through October with scrimmages on Mondays for 5th and 6th graders and on Thursdays for 3rd and 4th graders. Location: Manthey Park
