ELECTED OFFICIALS LETTER FROM THE MAYOR
A year of remembrance continues As we welcome the colors and traditions of fall, we continue to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. Throughout 2026, communities across the nation are reflecting on the people, places, and stories that have shaped our country. This September, we will once again pause to remember the lives forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001. As we mark 25 years since that tragic day, O’Fallon will continue its tradition of honoring the victims, survivors, and heroes of 9/11 with our annual remembrance ceremony. This year, the ceremony will move from City Hall to the O’Fallon Justice Center, providing a meaningful new setting where our community can gather to reflect, remember, and honor the courage and sacrifice of those who served and those we lost. While summer is winding down in O’Fallon, fall always brings some of our community’s most cherished traditions. On Sunday, September 20, O’Day Park will come alive for our annual Fall into the Arts festival, featuring fine arts and crafts, live music, local food trucks and plenty of opportunities to enjoy a beautiful fall day with family, friends, and neighbors. We’re also hosting this year’s Food Truck Fright in Dames Park on Friday, October 9! Parents will enjoy a variety of food truck goodies, while the kids watch How to Train Your Dragon (2025) on the big screen. Costumes are encouraged, so come out for the food, fun, and Halloween spirit. On November 11, join me as we come together to honor the brave men and women who have served our country during our Veterans Day ceremony at O’Fallon’s Veterans Memorial Walk. As the holiday season approaches, I invite you to join us Wednesday, November 18, for our annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at City Hall. This cherished tradition is a wonderful way for families and friends to kick off the holiday season together. And when the holiday hustle and bustle gets underway, be sure to take a break and experience the magic of our 35th annual Celebration of Lights at Fort Zumwalt Park.

TWIN ISLAND TRAILHEAD
The newest section of the Dardenne Greenway is now open! The Twin Island Trailhead officially opened in June 2026, thanks to a joint effort by the City of O’Fallon, Great Rivers Greenway, and MoDOT - St. Louis. By aligning with MoDOT’s bridge rebuild along Technology Drive, the project partners turned a routine infrastructure upgrade into an opportunity to expand the Dardenne Greenway network. Set inside BaratHaven Park, the new connection routes trailgoers around a 15-acre lake and through native wetland habitats designed to support local wildlife. The updates also feature a separate walking and biking path on Technology Drive spanning Dardenne Creek, as well as a new paved, accessible greenway beneath I-64. By safely bypassing the interstate barrier, this addition sets the stage for future trail expansion to the west. Visit the new trailhead at 2120 Technology Drive, or learn more about the project at greatriversgreenway.org.

The City of O’Fallon is undergoing a wave of municipal improvements designed to modernize infrastructure, enhance public services, and better serve local residents. If you’ve visited City Hall recently, you may have noticed the shiny new roof atop the rotunda. Repairs from the spring 2024 storm damage are now nearing completion, and the City extends its sincere appreciation to staff and residents for their patience while parking lot areas were closed during the work. However, a number of other projects are still underway inside the builidng. Renovations are currently underway in the 2nd-floor gymnasium, which is being transformed into the permanent home for O’Fallon Theatre Works. The space is receiving structural and technical upgrades to accommodate lighting, audio, stage infrastructure, and comfortable audience seating. A number of department offices have been renovated or relocated to accommodate the growing number of city employees. Notably, the Veterans Assistance Office has been moved near the east entrance, offering easier access, and room to better serve our local service members and their families.

Honoring O’Fallon Police K9 Vegas After faithfully serving the people of O’Fallon for seven years, O’Fallon Police K9 Vegas died peacefully in his sleep on June 24, 2026. Vegas was an 8-year-old German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix who worked as a dual-purpose patrol canine. Vegas, and his handler Officer Matt Vegovisch, played a vital role in countless law enforcement operations, assisting in numerous criminal apprehensions, and narcotics investigations throughout his career. Vegas was also a favorite among community members. Whether conducting demonstrations at public events or interacting with residents, he proudly represented the O’Fallon Police Department and helped strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community. Vegas shared an extraordinary bond with his handler. Together, they formed a remarkable canine team built on trust, loyalty, and commitment. Their partnership exemplified the very best of police canine work. Vegas leaves behind a legacy of service, courage, and devotion. He will be deeply missed by his handler, fellow officers, department staff, and the many people whose lives he touched throughout his career. Thank you, Vegas, for your faithful service and sacrifice. Your watch has ended, but your impact on this department and community will never be forgotten.

This summer, community outreach got a whole lot sweeter! Residents gathered at Andy’s Frozen Custard on Highway K for “Custard with a Cop,” a series of events designed to bring neighbors and local law enforcement together over frozen treats and friendly conversation. Attendees got an up-close look at emergency vehicles, explored patrol cars, turned on the lights and sirens, learned about the equipment officers use every day, and met our furry K9 officers. The turnout across every event highlighted a shared desire for strong, positive connections between residents and officers. Thank you to Andy’s Frozen Custard for hosting our events this summer, to our local law enforcement for their dedication, and to every community member who came out to make this summer series a success.

O T n r Lea with M SWI FIND THE RIGHT GROUP LESS ONS FOR YOUR CHILD To ensure success in the O’Fallon Swim Academy, it’s important to register children for the appropriate level. Children who have participated in the swimming program should register according to the last class successfully completed, moving to the next class or skill level when all skills from the previous level are mastered. Some classes may seem repetitive, but we want swimmers to perfect their skills in order to advance safely, not quickly. Children learn at different paces and it is common to repeat a class.
SHRIMP • 6-24 Months Parent or guardian participation in the water with the child is required. Children will enjoy learning basics of water safety and participating in a swim class. Parents or guardians will learn how to safely guide their child and help them advance at their own pace. Class sizes are a minimum of 3, maximum of 8.
PUFFERFISH • Ages 2-3 This transitional class is for children who have passed Shrimp but are not yet ready to be away from their guardians just yet. Swimmers gain confidence and independence as they master introductory skills and learn safe practices. Parents or guardians will participate in the water during the first two to four classes. Prerequisites: at least two years old or completion of Shrimp. Swimmers who successfully complete Pufferfish can participate without guardian support, independently enter and exit the water, blow bubbles, bob underwater with partial submersion, attempt kicks and arm scoops on their tummy. Class sizes are a minimum of 3, maximum of 8. CHILDREN MUST PASS THE PREVIOUS SWIM LEVEL, OR BE ABLE TO COMPLETE TASKS FROM PREVIOUS LEVEL TO MOVE UP.

GUPPIES • Ages 3-5 Guppies is a great level for beginners. Students will gain confidence as they master basic introductory swimming and water safety skills through repetition. Prerequisites: independent from guardians, comfortable blowing bubbles, bobbing underwater with partial submersion. Swimmers who successfully complete Guppies can jump in the water without support, blow nose bubbles, swim forward with arm & leg movement with support on back and tummy, float on back & front, bob underwater with full submergence, and understand water safety. Class sizes are a minimum of 3, maximum of 6.
OTTER • Ages 4+ This level builds on basic swimming skills by transitioning foundational swimming into freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers will reinforce their confidence and build swimming endurance Prerequisites: swim forward with arm & leg movement with support on back and tummy and bob underwater with full submergence. Swimmers who successfully complete Otter can glide underwater with assistance, float on back & front, swim forward on back & front without assistance with arm and leg movement, and jump into the water and return to safety. Class sizes are a minimum of 3, maximum of 6.
STINGRAY • Ages 5+ Stingray perfects freestyle and backstroke techniques and skills to further build upon the swimmer’s endurance. Prerequisites: fully independent front & back float, swimming forward on back & front without support, submergence and retrieve object from the bottom of the pool. (Depth of 3’6”) Swimmers who successfully complete Stingray can swim freestyle and backstroke for half the length of a lap lane, swim freestyle with rotary breathing, retrieve object submerged from 4’6”, and tread water for 15 seconds. Class sizes are a minimum of 3, maximum of 8.
