Fit2Live 2021 Review

AUGUST Mayor Hartwick recently named Lakaisha Shelby as the Director of the Fit2Live Program in the City of North Little Rock. Shelby, a distinguished graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) holds a Bachelor of Health Education and Promotion with a minor in Health and Education. She was named to the Dean’s List three consecutive years while attending UALR. Shelby most recently worked at the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services and the Arkansas Department of Finance & Administration. She has extensive customer service experience working for both private companies and state agencies.

Shelby commented, “I am excited about the opportunity to continue developing the North Little Rock Community Gardens Program, Employee Wellness Plan, as well as the overall Fit2Live Initiative in the City of North Little Rock.”

Fit2Live 2021 Review September Prostate Awareness Kickoff On September 21, 2021, the City of North Little Rock partnered with Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation Director Chris Collier as pictured to the right, to provide free PSA (prostate specific antigen) test to male employees. The PSA test measures the level of PSA in blood and is a preventive test to identify possible prostate cancer. The event was held in honor of Prostate Cancer Awareness for the month of September for all male, city employees.

Fit2Live 2021 Review October NAMI “End the Stigma” RUN/WALK The City of North Little Rock employees, through the Fit2Live Department, participated in support of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) , “ENDING THE STIGMA” of mental health for a 1-mile walk through Burns Park. As noted, mental health stigma prevents us from talking openly about mental health issues and prevents those who need help the most from seeking it. The cost to business and society is high. The good news is that businesses and organizations that strive for a stigma-free workplace will not only save in healthcare and other costs, but they will also become better places to work. Unaddressed mental health issues can hold back your entire organization and not just those directly affected.

Fit2Live Fitness Trail

Flu shots were offered for City of North Little Rock employees during October. Special thank you to Chrissy Barr at the Medicine Shoppe, located at 3836 John F Kennedy Blvd, North Little Rock, AR 72116. Chrissy has been helping to keep our city employees safe from the flu since 2018, Fit2Live truly appreciates the services she provides.

The Fit2Live department, along with the help of Parks and Recreation, has installed our new QR F.I.T. Trail System along “White Oak Trail” in Burns Park.

What's a QR F.I.T Trail System? This is a very unique trail that has six stations to intensify your run/walk along the trail -you simply scan the QR code at the station and an exercise video will appear, Workouts include upper body, lower body, core, and flexibility.

Fit2Live 2021 Review

“No Shave November” “No Shave November” is a fun yet impactful way to show support for prostate cancer survivors and for raising money to support the mission of the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation (APCF).

November was a great month and Tamara McCledon, with NLR police Department started her journey to lose 10lbs in 10 weeks. She "LOST IT" . She was reward with a T-shirt and a Fitbit for being the first in group of 25 to reach her goals. Tamara stated, " The challenge was fun and thank you for motivating us all!!"

The Department Games have begun. A special thank you and appreciation to the CVB and City Service Employees who have been fully engaged in the challenge. December was a great month for Ember Strange who does a lot in the City of North Little Rock. Ember reached her goal of 10lbs in 10 weeks. She decided to get healthy while enjoying herself. She was rewarded with a Tshirt and a Fitness Bag
