Murphy Parks and Recreation Department offers an array of activities, facilities, events, and services to meet our city's diverse population's unique recreational needs and interests. Murphy Parks and Recreation strives to create a quality customer experience that will leave our citizens dazzled and coming back for more.

In this guide you will find information of upcoming events, how to make reservations at the Community and Activity Centers, information on current programs and camps, and much more.

Memberships are FREE for Murphy residents. Residents are any person(s) who pays property taxes or receives a water bill from the City of Murphy An ID or water bill is required for verification.

Children under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian present to sign up for a membership.

Day Pass: Any supervising adult (18 or older) can sign for a youth or teen day pass.

Membership cards are required for facility access. Lost cards will result in a $3 replacement fee.

All children ages 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult member 18+ years at all times to access and use the facility.

All athletic equipment is available for checkout with a membership card or a valid ID based on availability.

We are no longer allowing members to call for reservations in our gym space We have instead assigned priority to select sports throughout the week During our "MIXED SPORTS" days, our more popular sports will be given an allotted time frame for full-court privileges Should there be no interest in that sport during the first hour of the allotted time, access will then be granted to the next sport of interest on a first come, first served basis. We will then consider court reassessment at the top of the hour.

We offer two ways to register for classes and events: Walk-Ins at the Community or Activity Centers during operational hours or online at reconline.murphytx.org

NEW ACCOUNTS

Before registering for a class, you will need to create a recreation account for your household in CivicRec, either online at reconline murphytx org or in person at the Community or Activity Center.

WAIVERS

After registration is complete, please be sure to electronically sign the waiver sent to your household email address Waivers must be completed prior to the start of the first session.

EXTERNAL REGISTRATION

Some classes require registration through an external website Links can be found in the online catalog reconline murphytx org

CLASS FEES

Due prior to the 1st session of each month A Non-residents fee of $5 applies to all programs and classes, per transaction.

REFUNDS

Refunds may be applied to your user account for future use A refund will be made back to the same form payment that it was received. All refunds will be made to the original payer only. For a credit card refund, please allow 10 days for processing The 2% processing fee is nonrefundable Check refunds may take up to 30 days to process. For a full refund, please make your request prior to the 2nd class meeting.

Dynasty Ballerinas

Twirl, sparkle, and shine while learning ballet terms and movement. Parents will enjoy a fun show-off at the end of the session. Attire: leotard (pink, black, or purple), tights (pink, white, or black), and ballet shoes. Price includes 12 classes.

Immersive Art: Painting

This program is designed for young artists to help them open up their channels of creativity It will teach kids patience and focus while learning fine arts techniques It will increase their self-confidence, painting beautiful art pieces at each class with different mediums (watercolor, acrylics, oil pastels, and charcoal). All supplies are provided. Dress to mess! Price includes 6 classes.

Drama Kids K-5th

In Drama Kids everyone is a star! Students work together on structured improvisations, group activities, speech, creative movement activities, theater games and more We provide a fun and fast paced environment that teaches valuable academic and social skills, such as teamwork, leadership, and public speaking. Class concludes with a wonderful performance on stage. Price is per month.

Drama Kids Jr. Acting Academy

The Jr. Acting Academy class is a very comprehensive program that covers spontaneous improvisation with specific directives, mini-scripts, character analysis, dialogue, theatre games, radio plays, monologues, and structured scenes. Year-end scripted productions performed for an audience. Price is per month.

MARTIAL ARTS

Pre-Karate

A 30-minute class for younger beginners; less than 8 years old. This class allows younger kids to earn belts as they progress towards the first belt level of the Family class. Students "graduate" to the full hour Family class when they either turn 8 years old or they complete requirements for the first belt level in the Family class. Price is per month and includes attending 2 times a week.

Okinawa Karate for Adults

Classical Okinawa art taught using traditional ranks/requirements, including open-hand, jujitsu, ground work, and traditional weapons These traditional principles are also expanded to conventional selfdefense weapons of today (knife, kubaton (keys), short stick, and more) Dallas Karate is in direct lineage with Okinawa Price is per month and includes attending 2 times a week

Traditional Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do is a form of unarmed combat designed for the purpose of self-defense It helps develop health by increasing cardiovascular ability, strength, balance, and flexibility Along with these benefits one can gain more self-confidence, selfdiscipline, respect, and better focus Tae Kwon Do is for everyone from kids to adults to seniors and you can be in any shape Come give it a try and you will soon see positive changes in your health, mindset, and well-being! Chair Yoga

Chair yoga is a gentle practice where postures are performed seated and/or with the aid of a chair. Chair yoga classes included a more mindful pace with modifications offered throughout the practice. This is an inclusive exercise class, typically target those with physical disabilities or limited mobility

Shining Stars Soccer

The Shining Star Soccer Stars uses soccer as a vehicle to teach life skills to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities We work with a developmentally-appropriate curriculum designed by licensed educators and therapists that promotes the complete growth of each individual and encourages players to improve at his or her own pace This growth is supported by a variety of educational models, techniques and theories We use soccer to enhance peer interactions and provide a safe environment for players to increase social potential. Price includes 4 sessions.

Little Soccer Stars - Parent & Me

Parent & Me Soccer is a caregiver-toddler presoccer and movement program for toddlers, aged 1 to 2 years Experienced early childhood instructors along with our puppet friends, Mimi and Pepe, take caregivers and toddlers through a world of exciting physical activity Individualized attention, positive reinforcement and engaging original music help develop pre-soccer skills that have toddlers balancing, running, kicking and playing--all while having a blast! PROGRAM POLICIES

Canceled Classes

All instructors set a minimum number of participants required for the class to be held. To ensure your class is held, please sign up in advance so our instructors have an accurate count of the participants. Make-up days are at the discretion of the instructor. Instructors will communicate changes of days/times of classes to currently enrolled participants.

FACILITY RENTAL POLICIES

After hours reservations are limited to one meeting per month per group, unless approved. Reservation availability may be limited due to staff hours and availability.

Reservations for the MCC and MAC are made in-person at the Community Center on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations can be made 90 days in advance and must be made two (2) weeks prior to the requested date. Each applicant must provide payment in full by check or valid credit card at the time the reservation is made. Reservation start and end times must include set-up and clean-up. Refunds may be issued, per contract agreements being met. See reservation policies for more details. All changes to a room reservation must be made five (5) business days prior to the reserved date. Gym can be reserved for sports only on Saturdays from 4pm-10pm. $15 non-refundable fee for Audio/ Visual equipment per room. NO RESERVATIONS ON SUNDAYS-NO EXCEPTIONS.

Reservations during peak times, Monday - Thursday from 5 pm-8 pm, are limited to two (2) one-hour reservations per week, per group, team, or coach

Reservations are required to hold organized practices during peak hours

Sunday is OPEN play only No reservations permitted

Reservations are only available to citizens, business owners, and business workers within Murphy city limits The individual who reserves the field must be on-site at the time of the field reservation.

Reservation parties are responsible for disposing of litter in trash receptacles or taking it off-site

Reserving parties must notify recreation staff when practices are canceled so others may use the field Field reservations may be made on the same day, pending field availability

No fields have lights

Organized practice in open space around fields is prohibited

Fields may be closed due to weather or for maintenance at the discretion of the Parks Department
