Did you get a thrill at the recent chill? Texas heat finally took a time-out! If you’re like most Texans, below 60 degrees calls for some sort of arm covering device.

If you’ve got kids, remember, car seats and puffy jackets don’t mix.

Bulky coats can prevent harnesses from fitting snugly, putting kids at risk in a crash.

For safe travels: Dress your child in thin layers.

Add blankets or use a car seat-safe cover once they’re buckled in

We know it’s tempting to bundle up your bundle of joy, but the extra bulk can compromise the safety of your child's ride.

City of Murphy Receives State Recognition for new Core Values for the second time!

During the 2025 Texas Municipal League (TML) Annual Conference and Exhibition in Fort Worth, the City of Murphy received a 2025 Municipal Excellence Award in management innovations for cities under 25,000 in population The award recognized the City for its internal culture campaign.

The City of Murphy launched the employee-led C.O.O.L. Core Values Campaign to transform workplace culture. With staff-defined values of respectful, professional, trustworthy, and friendly, the initiative has boosted morale, cut turnover from 28 to 13 percent, and become part of daily operations. Through creativity and staff buy-in, Murphy proved culture change is possible without a big budget.

On hand at the Conference to accept the award were members of the council and staff Pictured from left to right: Assistant City Manager Jared Mayfield, Public Affairs Officer Bailey Ragsdale, Council Member Ken Oltmann, Police Chief Jeff Gibson.

EXCITING NEWS

TML’s Municipal Excellence Awards recognize and encourage the achievements of Texas cities in meeting the challenges of municipal governance. Innovative problemsolving, excellence in management, increasing citizen participation, and reaching higher service levels are all daily occurrences in Texas cities and deserve recognition. This awards program seeks out the best of these programs to honor Awards are given in two population categories (under 25,000 and over 25,000) and five areas (city spirit, communication programs, management innovations, public safety, and public works)

The 2025 TML Annual Conference and Exhibition was held at the Fort Worth Convention Center on October 29-31 and attracted more than 3,700 city officials, who learned ways to govern more effectively, discussed critical issues, and shared best practices and solutions.

“C.O.O.L” received initial state recognition at the Texas Association of Municipal Officers in June of this year.

WHAT DO THEY DO?

Here in the City of Murphy, our Murphy Parks & Recreation department is more than just swings, slides, and picnic tables (though we love those!). We’re the folks who make sure your green spaces, programs and gatherings are safe, fun, inclusive - and yes, well-maintained - so you feel good using them

1.Maintain and improve the parks

We have 11 people who keep the parks looking good and ready for action. They not only have to test the playground equipment, but also replace signage, mow, landscape, fix things, and so much more. By the way, have you ever seen “Timbers Tails” on their social media? You should really check it out.

2. Offer exciting programs and recreational experiences

Whether you’re into sports leagues, open-gym time, sourdough bread making, or just fun in general, we develop programs to help people connect, move and enjoy. Check out the current community guide for ideas on how you can get involved!

3. Host community events

Murphy hosts community events throughout the year, from the Rainbow Trout Roundup, Sounds at Sundown concert series, and the always popular - Maize Days!

4. Facilitate facility rentals

Did you know you can rent some of our pavilions, fields and/or meeting space? We do that too. We’re kind of like the awesome multi-tool you carry around that makes you feel prepared for any situation.

While we’re on the subject of trash...

Did you know Murphy residents get a weekly bulky trash collection?

You may set out up to four cubic yards each week, which is about the size of a regular pickup truck bed. This can include things like mattresses, furniture, limbs (bundled and tied), etc. For more information about this collection, visit our website!
