PROTECT OUR

STORM DRAINS WHAT GOES IN THE STORM DRAIN GOES TO OUR WATERWAYS Storm water runoff is rainfall that does not soak into the ground but flows over the land into surface waters. Storm water runoff occurs naturally, but as impervious surfaces such as rooftops, roads and parking lots increase, the natural capacity of soil and vegetation to filter and absorb rainfall decreases.

BE CLEAN. BE CAREFUL. LAWN CARE

PET WASTE

Use less pesticides and chemicals on your lawn and landscaping and consider organic options.

Clean up after pets to prevent bacteria from entering local creeks and ponds.

CAR WASHING

Be careful of runoff from harmful chemicals that you may use to wash or maintain your car.

POOL & SPA WATER

Do not drain your pool directly into the storm drain system, instead filter these waters through your lawn first.

HOW YOU CAN HELP ONLY RAIN

Pick up litter around your home and neighborhood

DOWN THE DRAIN

Keep grass clippings and leaves out of the street; they wash directly into stormwater systems.

Never pour chemicals, paint, or oil down storm drains, they lead straight to waterways. More rainfall becomes storm water runoff, leading to neagtive impacts like erosion, flooding and contamination of our water.

Protect our waterways in Murphy, TX
