“My question is about water drainage in the Timbers. A couple years ago, a bunch of ditch paving and other work was done I haven't noticed any improvement in the way the park becomes a mud bog after rain. It still never drains. It makes one side of the field unusable and it seems like a prime mosquito breeding spot. Is this the way it's supposed to be? Any next steps?”
The baseball fields at Timbers Nature Preserve were originally designed to double as a retention pond to help manage flooding in the surrounding neighborhood Because of this, drainage is a constant challenge. The Parks Department works hard to clear the drainage weekly so water can flow off the fields, but heavy rains can slow this down especially when we can't bring in equipment like the tractor. When drainage gets backed up, it delays field maintenance and limits how much the community can enjoy the space.
To truly fix the issue, the solution will require extensive engineering and a thorough drainage analysis. That level of work goes beyond routine maintenance, so the project has been added to the City’s Capital Improvement Program list for consideration in the next bond election.

“We love living in Murphy but hate the traffic. What can we do to make FM 544 and dangerous intersections like Murphy Road and Hawthorne safer? I get anxiety just leaving my neighborhood on the road Great city council and parks ”
Traffic continues to increase, the Murphy Police Department is committed to the health and safety of our community We are implementing creative and robust strategies to address our growing problem You will see an increased level of law enforcement officers working specific locations throughout our city. This is based upon objective data collected, in an effort to direct our resources in the most resourceful manner possible.

MURPHY PD Coming Full Circle
EXPLORER TO CORPORAL
In the City of Murphy, Texas, the Police Department is more than a place of service, it’s where aspirations begin For Corporal Daniel Moszak, that journey started in 2010 when, as a high school freshman, he joined the Murphy Police Department’s Explorer Program. Now, more than a decade later, he patrols the same streets he once walked as a young Explorer, proving just how impactful community programs can be
“I heard about the Explorers at my bus stop,” Moszak recalls. “They were doing cool, hands-on police training. I knew right away it was something I wanted to try.”
From the start, Moszak dove into the experience. He trained alongside officers, competed in national events, and built friendships that would last beyond high school.

MURPHY PD - FULL CIRCLE CONT.
Key mentors like Sgt Sarah Ashmore, Reserve Officer Tommy Bryant, and Fred Mancias helped shape his leadership, confidence, and commitment to public service.
“Exploring taught me to push myself, to lead, and to value teamwork It confirmed that law enforcement was my calling,” he says.
After high school, Moszak earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. Though he briefly worked in the private sector, the skills he developed as an Explorer translated well.
When the chance to return to Murphy arose, he embraced it.
Now a patrol corporal, Moszak serves under Sgt. Ashmore, the same mentor who helped guide him years ago. “It’s a privilege,” he says. “To come back and work beside someone who helped me start this journey, it really is full circle ”
Though he now wears the badge, Moszak hasn’t forgotten where it all began. He hopes to give back by mentoring the next generation of Explorers once the program resumes “Youth engagement is vital. It builds trust and shows young people what law enforcement is really about,” he says.
The Murphy community has welcomed Moszak’s return. Residents are proud to see a hometown success story come to life, and Moszak takes that responsibility seriously “I want young Explorers to know that with integrity and hard work, they can do this too,” he says
Looking ahead, Moszak plans to grow within the department and one day step into a leadership role But no matter where his path leads, his roots in the Explorer program will always define his journey
“Coming back to where it all started—it means everything,” he says. “That’s what full circle is ”
