Q: What’s the most surprising thing people assume your job is like vs. what it’s actually like?
A: Most people think we just play with puppies and kittens all day. It’s a lot more hands-on than that. We deal with scared, injured, and sometimes agressive animals, so some days feel more like wrestling matches than cuddle time. It’s not always easy, but very rewarding.
Q: If your job had a theme song, what would it be?
A: Welcome to the Jungle.
Q: Do you ever get attached to the animals you help, and how do you handle that?
A: YES!!! Look, if we took all the animals that we got attached to we would have to live on THOUSANDS of acres and we would not have the time or energy to give each animal’s needs. That’s where we see the most rewarding part of our job seeing all our shelter fur babies get to go to amazing families who have the time and love to give to each one.
Q: Have you ever shown up to a call and thought “this is not what I trained for”?
A: Yes, lots of times. Mostly for the snake calls, l

Q: If animals could file a complaint about humans, what would they complain about the most?
A: 1. My food bowl was a little short on the food!
2.My owner abanded me and went to work.
3.My owner just dropped me off at the torture chambers!!! They ran running water over me, added a sudsy substance on me, and used a tool that pulled my hair, then the wind almost blew me away!
Q: What’s something the public does that helps your job a lot - but probably doesn’t realize it?
A: We have some amazing people that help in lots of ways. Sometimes when the shelter is full, finders of lost animals will hold onto them until there is room, and we also have people who bring treats and toys for pets. Mostly, its the simple act of saying “thank you” for doing what we do, that’s super uplifting to hear.

After nearly nine years of planning, fundraising, and unwavering dedication, the Murphy Veterans Tribute has officially been dedicated and opened to the public.
What began as a vision to honor the men and women who have served our nation has become a lasting reality thanks to the efforts of countless volunteers, generous donors, community supporters, the Murphy Veterans Tribute Board, and City staff. Through years of hard work and perseverance, the memorial now stands as a place of reflection, remembrance, and gratitude for all who have worn our nation’s uniform.
Located at Murphy City Hall, the tribute features a bronze statue, commemorative pavestones honoring individual veterans, and elements representing each branch of military service. Together, these features create a meaningful space where residents and visitors can pause to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and commitment of America's veterans.
The dedication ceremony brought together veterans, families, community leaders, and residents to celebrate the completion of this long-awaited project and honor those who answered the call to serve.
The Murphy Veterans Tribute will serve as a lasting reminder of the sacrifices made to protect the freedoms we enjoy today and ensure that the stories and service of our veterans are remembered for generations to come.

The City of Murphy has partnered with the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) and M&M Irrigation and Illumination to provide Murphy residents with an opportunity to have their irrigation system inspected.
The evaluation report will provide suggested irrigation system repairs, controller settings, and estimated gallons of water saved if you implement all listed recommendations. The irrigation evaluator will not make any repairs to your system, if repairs are needed, you are responsible for hiring a licensed irrigator.
