WHY SOME THINGS IN LIFE CAN’T BE EYEBALLED.
We all love a good “close enough moment. Folding the laundry like it’s going on the shelf at the Gap? Nah. That glug of olive oil you just eyeballed? Chef’s kiss. Mowing in kinda-straight lines? Still counts. Life is full of times when getting it just about right is all you really need.
But… roofs? Not one of those times.
When it comes to roof replacements, close enough can get dangerous especially when gas vent pipes are involved. Those little metal tubes sticking out of your roof? They’re not just decorative. They safely release dangerous gases from your home’s water heater and furnace If a roof job accidentally shifts or disconnects a vent pipe (which happens more than you’d think), those gases can end up in your attic or worse, inside your living space
That’s where our friendly Building Official steps in. When you get a proper roof permit, it includes a follow-up inspection from an actual human who checks more than just shingles Yes, he may need to peek into your attic or garage, and no, he’s not judging your storage situation (He’s seen worse. Like… way worse.)
He’s there to keep your home safe and to make sure “looks fine from the street” doesn’t turn into “silent gas leak inside the house ”

So while “close enough” is fine for scrambled eggs or parking in your own driveway, your roof deserves precision. And your family deserves protection Get the permit. Get the inspection. Keep the deadly stuff out of the air you breathe.

Murphy is nearing buildout, and it’s time to make a plan for what’s next This month, the City of Murphy will begin updating its Master Plan (also called a Comprehensive Plan), a long-range policy document that guides how we mature as a “built-out” city.
Our last major update was in 2008, and a lot has changed since then. With fewer than 100 acres of undeveloped land left, and redevelopment already on the horizon, now is the time to rethink land use, mobility, design, economic development, and more
