FORTHE OFSAFETYLove

Safety Valentines from Fire

Give love (and the Right of Way): Move over and stop for emergency vehicles with flashing lights.

Stay clear, stay safe: Never follow too closely behind emergency vehicles.

Show your love on the roadside: Reduce speed when passing emergency vehicles or construction workers on the side of the road.

Fall for smoke alarms: Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors regularly. Replace batteries yearly.

Fireproof your romance: Keep candles away from flammable materials and never leave them unattended.

Safety Valentines from Police

Pull over with care: Please don’t slam on your brakes - signal and pull to the right safely.

Choose love over distractions: Stay off your phone while driving or walking near a roadway.

Carry the keys to your heart (and safety): Keep your keys handy when approaching your car or home. Always be aware of your surroundings.

Stick together, Lovebirds: Use the buddy system when attending social events or traveling. Stay alert and trust your instincts.

Say no to suspicious admirers: Be cautious with unsolicited calls or emails asking for sensitive information.

Safety Valentines from Community Development

Fall in love with permits: Check our website to see when a permit is required to ensure your remodel project complies with safety codes.

Build a relationship with a Licensed Contractor: Always verify credentials before hiring anyone.

Love your tools, but use them safely: Wear protective gear and follow manufacture instructions.

Don’t let sparks fly: Check wiring and hire professionals for electrical work. (Be sure they pull a permit).

Show your neighbors some love: Notify them of large projects and keep the worksite clean.

Safety Valentines from Finance

Don’t fall for a financial love scam - Be cautious of online relationships that quickly turn into requests for money or personal information. Scammers often use romance to manipulate victims.

Keep your love notes private (and your tax documents too) - Never share your Social Security number, tax returns, or banking details over email, text or social media. Keep them safe like a cherished love letter.

File early to protect your refund - Just like making Valentine’s reservations in advance, filing your taxes early can help prevent identity thieves from fraudulently filing in your name.

Only trust the real deal (IRS impersonation scams are everywhere)IRS won’t call, text, or email demanding payment. If you receive a suspicious message, verify it directly at IRS.gov

Safety Valentines from Public Works

Don’t let potholes break your heart (or your car) - watch out for potholes, especially in winter weather. Report them to us via Murphy Connect (online or through the app).

Don’t let clogged drains rain on your romance - help prevent street flooding by keeping storm drains clear of leaves and debris. A little effort goes a long way! 2.

Walk hand in hand (safely) - use crosswalks, obey traffic signals, and be mindful of uneven sidewalks when enjoying a romantic stroll. Want to spice up your stroll? Snap a pic of any sidewalks that need our attention and report them via Murphy Connect!

A WHAT’SNEWON

AND THE SURVEY SAYS...

Updates on things you mentioned in our recent survey

MCCREARYRD/544LIGHT

We received many comments about this intersection, but did you know that its not actually in murphy? the city boundary lines are a little weird over there - north of the intersection the boundary is in the median and South of the intersection none of the road is in Murphy.

CODE COMPLIANCE

Several respondents mentioned tall grass/weeds, trash/debris on private property, and other potential code violations. Code compliance helps keep murphy safe, clean and beautiful by ensuring properties follow city regulations. residents can report potential violations through the Murphy connect app or our city website. These tools make it easy to submit concerns and track updates, helping maintain our community’s quality of life.

want to know more about what is considered a code violation? follow us on social media and be on the lookout in our next newsletter for more indepth information.

PUPPYPOO

It may not be a glamourous topic, but do you know why it’s important to pick up after your pup? In addition to it harming plant/grass growth, it can spread disease like roundworms, E. coli and other intestinal parasites. These can be transmitted to people and other pets.
