Miramar has received State Certification for its Comprehensive Plan from The State of Florida Department of Community Affairs. The Comprehensive Plan is a state required, long range planning document, encompassing land use, transportation, housing, and infrastructure elements that manage future growth. The City has demonstrated a track record of having technical, financial, and administrative expertise to effectively adopt, implement, and enforce its planning initiatives independent of State oversight. Miramar is one of only three municipalities in the entire State that can claim this distinction.

The City of Miramar is currently building the 54-acre Miramar Tow n C e n t e r, a p r e m i e r m i x e d - u s e d ev e l o p m e n t . I t i s d e s i g n e d a s a n i d y l l i c t r a d i t i o n a l d ow n t ow n w i t h p e d e s t r i a n - o r i e n t e d s t r e e t s , beautiful Mediterranean-style architecture, main street storefronts, a n d w a t e r f r o n t v i ew s . T h e Tow n C e n t e r i s c o nv e n i e n t l y l o c a t e d i n t h e c e n t e r o f t h e C i t y. A n d b y 2 0 1 1 , i t w i l l h o u s e a c u l t u r a l c e n t e r a n d a r t s p a r k , p u b l i c l i b r a r y, e d u c a t i o n a l f a c i l i t i e s , b u s i n e s s e s , retail space, restaurants, cafes, and a transportation hub, all joining the award-winning City Hall which opened in August 2004.

T h e Tow n C e n t e r a l l ow s f o r a g r a c i o u s l i f e s t y l e w h e r e w o r k , p l a y, learning, services and entertainment are within walking distance – a city w ithin a city. It is also a gath e rin g p la c e f o r Mir a ma r ’s c itiz e n s t o c e l e b r a t e t h e m i l e s t o n e s a n d r i c h c u l t u r e o f o u r C i t y.

Currently, over 3,500 resid e n tia l u n its a r e a d ja c e n t to th e Tow n Center site, and an additional 1,300 multi-family units are under development. The site itself w ill in c lu d e ove r 5 0 0 tow n h o u se s, ga r d e n a p a r t m e n t s , a n d l iv e - w o r k u n i t s .
