Director’s Message The past year underscored the importance of parks and recreation services for our community. In spite of everything that was negatively impacted by Covid-19 over the past year, during 2020 Meridian Parks and Recreation was still able to safely host more than 675 classes, camps and activities serving more than 3,300 youth, adult and senior participants. Approximately 3,900 people played in our adult sports leagues and we successfully launched popular new cornhole and disc golf leagues and tournaments.

In addition, we adapted many activities and events to safety maintain engagement with families, including a remote fitness challenge, a backyard family campout, virtual scavenger hunts, an autumn door decorating contest, Zoom with Santa and more. I am proud of our Meridian Parks & Recreation staff who continue to be resilient and creative as we strive to fulfill our mission in ways that add value to you and your families.

Even our seasonal Activity Guide has recently undergone a makeover. We hope you like our new layout and expanded content and would welcome your feedback on the new “look.” Be sure to explore each page of this guide, as there are lots of fun upcoming activities and special events advertised throughout. Physical activity, access to the outdoors, recreational programs, educational classes, sport leagues and tournaments, and special events are all hallmarks of the services we provide. As we continue to see more people than ever out and about enjoying our parks and pathways, we hope you will be among them creating fun and lasting memories. Enjoy!

How to Register Registration for Meridian Parks and Recreation’s Summer programs opens on April 9, 2021.

Online Go to www.meridiancity.org/activityguide and click the link to our online registration system. From there you can register and make payment via your credit or debit card.

By Phone Call us during regular business hours (Monday—Friday, 8:00 am—5:00 pm, excluding major holidays) at 208-888-3579. Please be prepared to provide us with a credit card number at the time you make your activity registration. Pre-payment is required.

In Person Visit our administrative office on the second floor of Meridian City Hall at 33 E. Broadway Avenue during regular business hours to register and pay for activities in person. We accept credit cards, cash, or checks payable to: City of Meridian.

Payment Pre-payment is required at the time all activity registrations are made. We accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, cash, and checks payable to the City of Meridian.

Don’t Delay — Register Today! Class and trip minimums must be met three working days before the activity start date. Don’t let a great activity be cancelled by waiting until the last minute to register; please register early! Liability Release Waiver Registering for any of our programs implies you have read, understood and agree to the following: The City of Meridian reserves the right to cancel classes when minimum enrollment has not been met. Should this occur, a full refund or credit towards another session will be issued. The City of Meridian reserves the right to adjust all program times, dates, and locations if necessary. Refunds must be requested at least two full working days prior to the activity start date. All refunds are subject to a $5.00 service charge. NOTICE OF WAIVER: Your participation in (or your child's participation in) recreational activities offered by the City of Meridian is subject to your consent to these conditions. Your acceptance of these conditions means that you cannot later bring a claim against the City, its agents, and/or its employees. 1. You acknowledge that participation in recreational activities offered by the City presents risks, some of which are unknown, and agree to assume all risks associated with your or your child's participation. 2. You release and forever discharge the City, its agents, and employees from all real or possible claims for damages or other harm to person or property not attributable to the tortious conduct of the City's agents or employees, regardless of the manner by which such claim may be brought. 3. Youth & Teen Activities Tumble and Twist Instructor: Bri This high impact class is for kids seeking a fun, safe and constructive outlet for all their extra energy. Students will learn basic skills and drills associated with tumbling and ninja training, including somersaults, cartwheels, dive rolls, handstands, jumping, landing, swinging and leaping from object to object. Ages: 3–6 Min/Max: 5/10 Do you have a child with energy to spare and a love of movement? If so, this 5-week program is for you! In our action-packed class, we teach the fundamentals of 10 sports and introduce nutrition and major muscle groups to provide a wellrounded fitness experience. This noncompetitive course explores football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, golf, hockey, tennis, baseball and track and field to give children a broader understanding of sports. Get Up Close with Art!

Intermediate Tumbling and Acro Instructor: Bri This intermediate class is for the gymnast or dancer who wants to advance their skills to the next level! Along with intermediate tumbling skills, beginning acro skills and technique will be taught while participants develop strength, coordination, and flexibility. Did you know there’s a fantastic art gallery located on the third floor of Meridian City Hall?! The Initial Point Gallery features a rotating selection of art created by local, regional and national artists. LEGO® EV3 Mindstorm Battle Bots Camp

Ages: 8–14 Min/Max: 5/20 If you haven’t tried rock climbing yet, come to Vertical View Climbing Gym and let them you the ropes! This class will teach the fundamentals of the sport in a safe, fun environment. Climbing is an adventure and helps you develop strength, both physically and mentally. Learn how to climb on a top rope as well as the basics of bouldering and the foundations for technical climbing on a vertical and overhanging wall up to 50’ high. Class fee includes shoe rental and harness. Class Location: Vertical View Climbing Gym

Ages 9-14 Min/Max: 10/14 Instructor: Jacquelyn Stafford Calling all LEGO® enthusiasts! Come explore the fun with Legos®, sensors, motors and anything else to build and create all EV3 Mindstorm projects. This will include Boogie Bots, Robo-Bots and more! Get prepared to program your Bots on Ev3 software or the Lego master brain itself and get ready to battle till the end! Intermediate Rock-Climbing Ages: 10+ Min/Max: 5/20 If rock climbing is your thing, come to Vertical View Climbing Gym and get after it! Vertical View’s intermediate level climbing class builds upon the essential climbing skills and help you reach new heights. Learn how to climb and belay on a top rope in addition to taking a deeper look into the realm of bouldering and the techniques and strategies for climbing on vertical and overhanging walls up to 65’ high. This class is for anyone who has already developed the basics of rock climbing. Class fee includes shoe rental and harness. Class Location: Vertical View Climbing Gym

LEGO Animation Camp Ages 9–14 Min/Max: 10/18 Instructor: Jacquelyn Stafford From Star Wars, to Harry Potter and Jurassic Park!! Come create and build your own mini movie set out of Legos and anything else to help create your own animated movie! Children will use technology to make that perfect Lego animated movie with complete editing capabilities, effects, music and narration all through iMovie and Stop Motion. Kids will have a video to keep and share with friends and family. Class Location: Kleiner Park Shelter A-2

Ages: 6+ Min/Max: 5/25 Instructor: Master Dave Lewis Family Tang Soo Do’s advanced class builds on the beginning class to extend the student’s knowledge of traditional Korean martial art that emphasizes a balance of hand and foot techniques. Instruction includes advanced techniques, forms, self-defense, sparring and weapons. Wear loose modest clothing. Email info@whitecrane-ma.com if you have any questions. Fee is $40 per month for the first student, $35 per month for a second member of the same family, $30 for the third member, and $130 total for families of four or more. Ages 10 & older Min/Max: 4/35 Instructor: Robert Stroud Kendo is a coed sport based on martial arts traditions requiring both mental and physical discipline. The class focus will be on basic footwork, sword handling, and outdoor conditioning. Let’s Play Sports Camps Ages 6 – 11 Min/Max: 10/30 Instructor: Recreation Staff Focus on FUN and learning basic skills for different sports! Campers will be introduced to and develop skills in soccer, basketball and flag football, as they learn the rules of the game. Along with the drills and non-competitive games, we focus on self-esteem, positive attitude, and sportsmanship.

Fencing improves hand-eye coordination, concentration, physical fitness, confidence, self-esteem and self-respect. Ages 6–12 Min/Max: 5/15 Instructor: Young Rembrandts Staff Our first week of summer we’ll go to the shore, enjoying fun summer activities at the beach. Our second/third week will take your artists into space where we’ll meet lots of aliens and see their home planets. The fourth week will have students exploring careers, wondering what they might want to be when they grow up. All classes will be a mixture of drawing and cartooning lessons so students will learn to look at topics from both a serious and humorous perspective. Class Location: Meridian Community Center

The Animals of Africa Pastels Workshop Ages 6 – 12 Min/Max: 5/15 Instructor: Young Rembrandts Staff Our Young Rembrandts students will find themselves captivated by exotic African beasts in this pastel drawing workshop. It offers a challenging 4-day course where artists will learn about some of Africa’s most majestic animals as they illustrate them using pastel chalks. An antelope showcased within a mélange of patterns, a stylized zebra with a creative color palette and a regal lion are a few of the beasts to be explored! No experience with pastels is necessary. Meridian Homecourt The Meridian Homecourt is the City of Meridian’s 49,000 square foot indoor sports court facility featuring four full-sized basketball courts. These courts can be converted to accommodate twelve pickleball courts and six volleyball courts. The Meridian Homecourt also features a large multi-purpose room where additional classes and activities can be held. The facility provides the community a clean, safe, well-maintained place to enjoy all types of indoor recreation yearround!

Host Your Next Outdoor Gathering at Our Place! Looking for a fun and unique location to hold an outdoor get-together? Meridian’s City parks have picnic shelters in a variety of sizes ideal for casual meetings and celebrations for groups of up to 400 people! While nearly all of Meridian parks have individual picnic tables you can use for free on a first-come first-served basis for impromptu picnics, you will need to make a pre-paid reservation in advance if you wish to utilize one of our covered picnic shelters and its amenities on a specific date and time for a gathering or special event.

MERIDIAN’S DOG PARKS Where Meridian Dogs Take Their People to Play! The City of Meridian has two dedicated off-leash dog parks where well-behaved dogs can safely romp and play while their owners have a doggone good time socializing with fellow dog enthusiasts — Storey Bark Park (430 E. Watertown Lane) and Discovery Bark Park (2121 E. Lake Hazel Road). Dog park amenities include safe leashing/ unleashing areas, separate large and small dog areas, shade shelters, water sources, agility playthings, paved walkways, a variety of ground surfaces, mutt mitt stations, tables and benches, and nearby restrooms and parking. Both dog parks are free to the public and open year-round from sunrise to sunset daily.

Our Dog Park Rules:

Use park at your own risk Owners are responsible for the action and behavior of their dogs Aggressive dogs must be removed immediately Dogs must have current license and vaccinations Owners must clean up after their dogs No dogs in heat Owner must be present and in control of their dogs at all times All dogs must be leashed outside the fenced area Children must be closely supervised Park hours are dawn to dusk

Meridian City Code 6-2-3 requires that all dogs living in the City of Meridian that are over six months old be licensed each calendar year. Licensing ensures that dogs living within the City are rabies-vaccinated and enables them to be reunited with their owners if found running loose.
