What will Livermore be like for the next generation?

The City of Livermore is updating its General Plan. The plan will guide decisions about transportation, jobs, housing, parks, shopping, services and more over the next 20 years.

In fall 2023, we are excited to kick off a discussion about where and how the City should plan for future jobs, services, entertainment, housing and parks and open space through 2045. We are evaluating and comparing three different land use alternatives for five specific focus areas. You can mix and match the best ideas from each to create a preferred land use scenario for 2045.

As a community, we are committed to informing and educating our residents about the best practices and resources to stay safe and secure online.

Four Key Cybersecurity Behaviors: > Turn on multi-factor authenticiation for your highly secure accounts (banks, credit card, investment accounts) > Use a strong password and a password manager for all websites > Recognize and report phising emails > Update your security software regularly

Vision Zero Action Plan Vision Zero is a comprehensive strategy to reduce and eventually eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries through a datadriven approach that ensures safety for all pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users and drivers of all ages and abilities. Recognizing that traffic deaths and severe injuries are preventable, Vision Zero aims to prioritize safety for a more sustainable and livable city for all.

The City of Livermore is in the process of adopting Vision Zero policies and implementing Vision Zero strategies at a local level to enhance the City’s elgibility for grant funding for projects and programs that improve safety. For more information, please visit the project website.

Gathering feedback from the community is essential for the success of the Livermore Vision Zero Action Plan. The City requests your help in identifying traffic safety issues on its roadways and intersections. Trunk or Treat The City of Livermore and the Livermore Police Department will be hosting the Second Annual Trunk or Treat, a safe and fun event ahead of Halloween. It will be held on Wed, Oct. 25, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Civic Center parking lot at 1091 South Livermore Avenue.

Come dressed in costume and collect candy from the trunks of decorated city vehicles. More than 20 departments and divisions participated last year, including Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, City Manager’s Office, Water Resources, Community Development Department, K9 Unit, Police Records Division to name a few.

Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children are invited to “parade” through the parking lot to take pictures, collect treats and play games.

The Livermore Police Department lobby will close at 3 p.m. on Wed, Oct. 25 for the event.

Prepare For Winter Rains With the rainy season upon us, please consider the below tips to help with safety on and off the road. Also, check out the City’s storm preparedness webpage at www.LivermoreCA.gov/Storm to see where sandbags are available, who to contact for storm-related issues, such as downed trees or power lines, and to find out if you live in a floodplain.

Prepare If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 9-1-1.

Do not approach, drive over or touch downed power lines.

Assume they are energized.

If your property is in danger of flooding, turn off your power and contact PG&E at 1-800-743-5002.

Tune in to local weather channels and emergency sources: KCBS 740AM, NOAA Weather Radio (frequencies 162.425, 162.400).

To report flooding, contact the Water Resources Division at 925-960-8100.

Do not drive into water that is high enough to reach the undercarriage of your vehicle.

Acquire and use sandbags preventatively.

Keep Your Home’s Pipes Clog-Free Did you know the day after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for plumbers?

When cooks get busy preparing their feast, lots of food scraps end up down the kitchen drain. Often this includes fat, oil and grease that solidify in sewer pipes, causing blockages and backups. Save your drains this holiday season by using this guide to dispose of fat, oil and grease properly.

STEP 2: Can It!

If you have 1 cup or less of leftover fat, oil or grease, pour it into your food scrap pail. If you have more, pour it into a sturdy sealable container.

Before washing your pots and pans, scrape out fat, oil and grease to prevent it from going down the drain.

Up to 2 gallons - Livermore residents can dispose of up to two gallons of fat, oil or grease curbside each week. First, pour it into sealed screw-top containers that are less than 12” tall and no more than 1 gallon in size. Then place the containers (no more than two) on the curb next to your blue recycling cart on your regular collection day.

Winter Reading at Your Library Returns

Back by popular demand, the Winter Reading Program is returning to the Livermore Public Library. Beginning December 1, 2023, and running through January 15, 2024, residents are invited to log their reading and earn tickets for a variety of prize drawings. All ages are encouraged to participate, with the goal of sharing the act of reading during a time of year that’s perfect for cozying up with a good book.

Discover the Library of Things Collection at the Livermore Library The Library of Things collection allows Library cardholders to check out equipment, such as telescopes, parks passes, musical instruments and more, so that people who learn by doing can do so in a hands-on way. Ice cream makers, Nintendo Switch consoles and games, and imaging thermometers are among the most popular items. Recent additions include an Instant Pot, bike repair kit and a car engine fault code reader.
