as the summer approaches, the City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up to launch an exciting and enriching Summer Program for children ages 6 through 15. Registration for this year's program will open on May 15th, with a second registration period available starting June 15th. Parents are reminded to bring their child's birth certificate for registration.

This year's Summer Program promises to be full of fun and engaging activities, with each week centered around a different theme. Children can look forward to themes like movies, music, superheroes, olympics, water world, and recycle me, providing a diverse range of experiences and adventures.

The Summer Program will feature a mix of indoor and outdoor activities designed to stimulate creativity, promote physical activity, and foster new friendships.

Children will have the opportunity to participate in arts and crafts, sports, games, and educational activities, ensuring a well-rounded and enjoyable summer experience.

To accommodate different age groups, children will be divided into two categories, with ages 6 to 11 participating at all recreation centers except Haynes Recreation Center, which will host the Summer Program for children ages 12 to 15. This division will allow for age-appropriate activities and a more tailored experience

Laredo, Texas, is gearing up for a monthlong celebration of Parks & Recreation, and there's no better time to embrace the wonderful benefits of outdoor opportunities right in our backyard. Throughout July, the city invites residents and visitors alike to discover the advantages of utilizing our local parks, swimming pools, splash parks, and trails.

One of the key benefits of utilizing local parks is the opportunity for physical activity. Whether you prefer a stroll along the scenic trails of Jovita Idar’s El Progreso Park or an invigorating game of basketball at North Central Park, or a full day of fun at Independence Hills Regional Park, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Slide, splash, and soak up the sun

Summer in Laredo can be pretty hot, and that is why it’s always a great idea to cool off with your little ones at any of our Splash Parks. A splash park is an aquatic facility for children, where safety is the number one priority as water will always be shallow. It is a place with equipment for young children to play outdoors in water and is fitted with a non-slip or safety surface with various nozzles and features that can shower, spray, rain, mist, and/or shoot streams of water.

The City of Laredo is home to 10 Splash Park locations and you can take advantage when they open on June 4, Tuesdays through Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Step 2. Complete and sign the volunteer application and release form.

Step 3. Obtain background checks from the City of Laredo Police Department and Webb County Sheriff’s Office if you are over the age of 18.

Step 4. Submit all documentation via email to daramos@ci.laredo.tx.us or in person at 1301 Farragut St., third floor, East wing, at El Metro Transit Center.

Step 5. A representative from the Volunteer Center will contact you for more information on the upcoming events.
