Safe and Fun Programs for La Porte As we leave 2020 behind us, I cannot help but think about the vital role Parks & Recreation has played in this community over the last year. Our parks and trails saw a record number of users. We slowly began to bring back limited programs, while modifying some of our services, and the community responded with understanding and support. Thank you! This is truly a testament to the value our resident place on our parks, trails, and programs. Even though the year was definitely filled with its twists and turns, staff remained busy in the Parks & Recreation Department. Recently, the City adopted a new Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan. This plan was developed with input from community members, local organizations, elected officials, and staff. This document provides the framework for our future work in providing residents with opportunities for parks, recreation, trails, and open space. The Department also completed multiple projects like the Broadway Trail Lighting from Dwire Drive to Wharton Weems Boulevard, laser grading the softball fields at Little Cedar Bayou Park, installing shade structures at the Dog Park, installing a beautiful new Christmas Tree at Five Points Plaza, and the list goes on. As we move into the New Year, we have a lot to look forward to. Three (3) new playgrounds are on order for placement at Northwest Park, Fairmont Park West, and 14th Street Park. The playground at Northwest Park will be our first accessible playground with ramps and rubber pour-in-place ground covering for easy wheelchair access. Other projects we will be working on this year include: Northwest Park soccer field lighting renovations, new fencing installed at the Fairmont Park Baseball Fields, the Northside basketball pavilion will be renovated, outdoor fitness equipment will be installed at Fairmont Park, and many other projects. Make sure to follow us on social media for information on when these, and other projects, are complete. Our staff will continue to provide you with the best possible parks and recreational opportunities that we can offer. We look forward to seeing you utilizing the City’s amenities and programs. Have a great 2021! Sincerely, Rosalyn Epting, CPRE, CPM Director of Parks & Recreation

Mission Statement Your Parks & Recreation Department is dedicated to the provision and management of superior parks and recreational facilities, innovative programs, and services which will provide our customers with pleasure and enrichment.

The City of La Porte provides the perfect opportunity for adventures with more than thirteen miles of trails for walking, cycling, running, hiking, or simply relaxing. The main artery of the trail system winds its way parallel to Fairmont Parkway from Pasadena all the way to the bay. The paved path is ideal for cyclists looking for a long weekend ride. At the eastern end of the trail is Little Cedar Bayou Park, where runners can take a rest beneath the shady trees, while watching their furry little training partner play at the dog park. From the Little Cedar Bayou Dog Park, the trail splits into two separate personalities: one, continue along the paved well-manicured path, or two, step off-road for a little rugged retreat. Option two leads hikers down a dirt trail away from the park as it twists beside the bayou toward the open bay. The densely wooded surroundings swallow up the sounds of the city, and
