GIRLS' YOUTH VOLLEYBALL
NEW
We are excited to announce our NEW girls’ volleyball league here at the Recreation & Fitness Center! This recreational league is designed for girls in grades 4th – 8th to increase physical activity, develop teamwork & interpersonal skills, learn the game of volleyball, practice & improve volleyball skills, and most importantly, HAVE FUN! Practices will be held once per week with at least one match each Saturday for six weeks. Girls, ages 9 – 14, will participate in one of two divisions: 4th–5th Grade or 6th – 8th Grade. Game-day team shirts/jerseys will be provided. Volunteer coaches are needed! WHERE: Recreation & Fitness Center DATE: Saturday, March 30 – May 11, 2019 (game dates) TIME: Practice days and times will be chosen by volunteer coaches after teams have been formed. START SMART BASKETBALL Start Smart Basketball teaches children the basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball while they work oneon-one and spend quality time with their parents. The program focuses on teaching children and their parents basic skills in dribbling, ball handling, passing, catching, shooting and running without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. BATTLEGROUND WRESTLING This wrestling program focuses on folk style and styles seen in high school and college competitions. Wrestling is a sport that will help develop agility, coordination, flexibility, balance, selfesteem, self-discipline, and a strong work ethic. All children will face opponents who are similar size as they are. START SMART BASEBALL Start Smart Baseball is a developmentally appropriate introductory baseball program for children 3-5 years old. The program prepares children for organized tee-ball, baseball and softball in a fun, non-threatening environment. Start Smart Baseball prepares children and their parents for organized baseball and softball without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Age appropriate equipment from Franklin Sports® and Hasbro® is used in teaching throwing, catching, batting, running and agility. BABY BALLET
HIP HOP
For 18 months-2 years old, this class focuses on the basics of ballet, balance, and creative movement. The use of a gym mat, small fun props and a ballet barre will be utilized in Baby Ballet.
Hip Hop class encourages dancers to express themselves through smooth, urban, and jazzy-funk movements while focusing on staging, visuals, performance and style. The most important part of this class is to ALWAYS HAVE FUN! Advanced classes are for more experienced dancers; instructors will recommend dancers be in beginner or advanced classes at their discretion.
BALLET Dancers will learn the correct form of body alignment, technique, musicality, and line and grace while also educating them on the terms, language and vocabulary of this discipline.
ACROBATICS Acrobatics focuses on strengthening and conditioning the body for tumbling and tricks, or skills, used in dance. The instructor will assist each student individually until the dancer can perform the skill safely and effectively without assistance.
JAZZ & CONTEMPORARY During this class Jazz and Contemporary are fused together to focus on diverse training of technique, body isolation, strength building and performance.

MONARCH BUTTERFLY WAYSTATION Did you know? The Monarch Butterfly was name the Texas state insect in 1995 by the state legislature. The Monarch butterfly is a pollinator that plays a vital role in the food chain for humans and other animals. Without pollinators, we'd have limited supply of fresh produce, which we rely on daily. Monarch butterflies are migratory creatures. Millions of monarch butterflies pass through Texas every fall to overwintering areas in Mexico and venture through Texas the following spring as they journey to northern United States for the summer. Many people are enamored by the monarch butterfly migration cycle but the species is dwindling due to development and widespread use of herbicides in croplands, pastures and roadsides. Subdivisions, factories, shopping centers, etc. consume 6,000 acres of natural monarch and wildlife habitat per day in the U.S. However, many cities across the nation are taking notice, including the City of La Porte, and are making a positive impact by raising awareness of the declining population, teaching youth about monarch conservation and creating monarch butterfly habitats in the community. The La Porte Parks and Recreation Department has instituted its first nationally recognized certified Monarch Waystation. SPECIAL PROGRAMS. BY THE BAY. The Special Programs Center is located at 1302 S Broadway, La Porte, TX 77571. This is a year round program offering day camps in the summer and after school/work programs throughout the year. We also offer an adult day program for independently functioning adults. The main objective of the S.P.O.R.T. (Special Populations Organized Recreation Therapy) program is to provide recreational activities, enhance fine and gross motor skills and create lasting friendships in a safe and structured environment for those with mental or physical disabilities. LOMAX ARENA OPEN RIDING RULES:
ORDINANCE 2016-3620 • Open riding is available during arena operational hours of 7:00AM and 11:00PM, with the exceptions of those dates and times that the arena is leased. • Those wanting exclusive time in the arena shall be required to rent the facility. • No paid, private instruction is allowed for any person during open riding, in accordance with section 50-3(3), unless the person has rented the arena. • Use of bucking chutes for rough stock is not allowed during open riding. • No glass bottles are allowed on any portion of the Livestock/Rodeo Arena grounds. • Certificates of Insurance are required in connection with all rentals of the arena where the lessee brings an animal or animals to the facility. • Rentals will be posted on the bulletin board by the concession stand on a weekly basis.
SECURITY GUIDELINES Outdoor facilities such as Rodeo arena events, permitting alcohol are required to have 1 Security Officer per every 100 persons, with a minimum of 2 Security Officers.
