Fling into Spring
Spring has officially sprung, and the City of La Porte has some amazing places around town to get you and
your family outside enjoying the weather. The mild spring breezes provide the perfect atmosphere for an afternoon picnic or friendly game of sand volleyball down by the bay before the summer crowds invade. While the Harris County-owned Sylvan Beach Park gets a lion share of the attention due to its rich history, the City of La Porte has 23 neighborhood parks with amenities such as playgrounds, swing sets, basketball courts, hike & bike trails, baseball fields, charcoal grills, tennis courts, soccer pitches, picnic tables and plenty more. A shining example of our local parks is Seabreeze Park along the bay, where residents can experience a day of fishing off the 400-foot pier, hosting a birthday party under the large pavilion with restrooms, playing on the newly rebuilt playground, roasting marshmallows over the massive fire pit, or just enjoying a one-of-a-kind view. As schools wind down, the city swimming season is cranking up. May 25th is your day to make a splash as all the pools officially open for the summer. There are four different public pools: The Wave Pool at Little Cedar Bayou Park, San Jacinto Pool at Central Park, Fairmont Park Pool, and Northwest Park Pool. If stressing over toddlers in the deep water is no bueno to you, then consider letting the little people cool off at one of the splash parks located at Brookglen Park, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, or Fairmont Park.

This is also the best time of year to get outdoors with your pet babies before the brutal oncoming assault of the Texas summer. The dog park at Little Cedar Bayou Park provides several acres of perfect space to run and play with your furry compadre while soaking up some sun. To discover more about the dog park and stay in the know about all the latest adventures around town, visit laportetx.gov or follow along at facebook.com/LaPorteTexas.
