The City of La Porte is hosting a Town Hall about our Animal Services, led by our Animal Control Supervisor, Clarence Anderson. This free information session will discuss the number of animals allowed in each residence, what types of animals are allowed in City limits, and the many services our Animal Adoption Center and Shelter provides.
LA PORTE MUNICIPAL COURT
This July and August, the Court’s juvenile ROCK Program will once again collaborate with Dr Windell Gill on two “Life Summer Seminars” Dr Gill drew upon his educational background working with troubled teens on how to manage emotions and make better life decisions Each weeklong seminar will focus on making career choices, dealing with power plays, living with confidence and following a clear path forward
For the 15th year in a row, La Porte Municipal Court has been awarded the Municipal Traffic Safety Initiatives Award!
This award recognizes municipal courts that made outstanding contributions to their community in an effort to prevent impaired driving and increase traffic safety. La Porte is the ONLY medium volume court in the state to receive this award for 15 consecutive years! La Porte Municipal Court staff takes great pride in maintaining a strong connection with the community. The Municipal Court feels it is both a privilege and an obligation to educate the youth, employees, and citizens of La Porte on traffic safety. Mayor Louis Rigby joined Court Specialist Billye McGill at the formal award ceremony in Austin.
Community Engagement
In September, the Court staff will be participating in the citywide Health and Safety Fair This well-attended event gives staff an opportunity to speak with citizens about all things related to court, traffic safety, and drunk/impaired/distracted driving We look forward to sharing our literature and giveaways!
R.O.C.K. ProgramThe City of La Porte began the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan in April 2022. The Comprehensive Plan is a document that envisions what the City will look like in the next 10 to 20 years and makes recommendations related to land use, transportation, housing, and economic development.
Multiple engagement opportunities are being offered to the community throughout the planning process, including a survey, an interactive map activity, an open house community meeting, and Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC) meetings. As we approach the end of the update process and finalize the plan document, we are seeking additional input from the community about the draft plan. Citizens can provide feedback on the draft plan and recommendations by taking an online survey that will be open from August 1st to August 15th, 2023. The City of La Porte is also hosting a second Community Open House on August 3, 2023, to present the DRAFT Comprehensive Plan document and gather feedback from the community.
To learn more about the project and how to participate in the upcoming events, visit the project website at laporte2040.com. For more information, contact: Teresa Evans, Director of Planning and Development, EvansT@LaPorteTX.gov.

This year, National Preparedness Month will focus on preparing older adults for disasters. According to the American Red Cross, there are several factors that make older adults more vulnerable after disasters, including, but not limited to:
a greater likelihood of suffering from chronic conditions and the need for associated medications; a greater reliance on assistive devices such as walkers or glasses, as well as support from caregivers and others; and an increased likelihood of social isolation.
