The La Porte Police Department is pleased to announce the receipt of a generous charitable donation from a local La Porte business, Sulzer Services. Sulzer Services President, Darayus Pardivala, was on hand at the company’s annual golf tournament to present Chief Steve Deardorff with a check for $50,000.00.

“We cannot thank Mr. Pardivala and Sulzer Services enough for their generosity and we are extremely grateful to have them as a community partner. Their kind act will support often underfunded programs throughout the police department.

Our crime victims liaison is an important community asset whom we often call on to help those individuals and families who are victims of both violent and non-violent crimes. The liaison provides a vital link for victims in need of important items like food, shelter, and clothing, to name just a few. In addition to this program, funds will be allocated to our Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, our summer youth camps, and police equipment. Again, our sincerest thanks to Mr. Pardivala and Sulzer Services” Chief Steve Deardorff.

National Preparedness Month (NPM) is an observance each September to raise awareness about the i m p o r t a n c e o f p r e p a r i n g f o r d i s a s t e r s a n d e m e r g e n ci e s t h a t c o u l d h a p p e n a t a n y ti m e .

LA PORTE EMS COMMUNITY PROGRAMS Car Seat Safety Inspections

Free car seat checks are provided by a certified technician. Car seat checks are available by appointment only on the following dates at EMS Headquarters, 10428 Spencer Highway: 07/14, 07/28, 08/11, 08/25, 09/08, 09/22.

CPR Training

The City of La Porte EMS is offering the following CPR courses at EMS headquarters: 07/16– Heartsaver $28 08/20– Healthcare Provider $32 09/03 – Heartsaver $28 Cash payment is due the day of the class.

Safe Riders

MUNICIPAL SEPARATE STORM SEWER SYSTEM The City of La Porte maintains a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System to transport stormwater. The City has also created a Storm Water Management Program to manage the quality of discharge from the system. This program includes best management practices and schedules for implementation to address six minimum control measures.

Drive-through immunization clinics are currently held from 9 AM-12 PM on the 2nd Saturday of each month at the City of La Porte EMS Headquarters.

Vaccines are available for children 18 years of age and younger; no fee and no appointment required.

F ILL T HE TRU C K La Porte EMS is hosting a kid-friendly food drive benefitting Bridge Over Troubled Waters and Bread of Life Food Pantry. An ambulance will be parked at Kroger (1300 W Fairmont) on July 10th from 9 AM-1 PM to allow patrons to make donations. All other donations can be dropped off at La Porte EMS Headquarters – 10428 Spencer Highway before or on July 10th. Please call 281-471-9244 with any questions.

HURRICANE SEASON IS HERE! It’s time to prepare ourselves and our property before the next flood.

Purchase a flood insurance policy and maintain coverage on your structure. Don’t delay – there is a 30-day waiting period before a policy takes effect. Basic homeowner’s insurance does not cover damage from floods.

Keep trash out of ditches, and avoid dumping pollutants in the sewers. Stream dumping is a violation of the Chapter 62 ordinance that prohibits dumping into the storm drainage system. Report debris and stream dumping to the Public Works Department by calling 281-471-2141.

Protect your home’s foundation from flooding by making sure your downspouts drain away from your house. For advice on how to correct drainage issues, information on grant opportunities in order to elevate your home, and other flood protection assistance including sources for financial assistance, you may visit FEMA’s website at fema.gov/flood-insurance or the City’s website at laportetx.gov/floodplain

Any development in the floodplain without a permit is illegal.

Prepare a family evacuation plan and designate a place where your family can meet after an evacuation order is issued.

Register your cell phone number into the City’s Swift911 Emergency Notification System (sign up at laportetx.gov/addmycell) and follow the City of La Porte on Facebook to see all watches, warnings, and other weather-related information issued by the National Weather Service.
