CONGRATULATIONS TO KELLY LATHREM, EMPLOYEE OF THE 3RD QUARTER! Captain Lathrem was nominated for this award by EMS Chief Lisa Camp, for her outstanding service and leadership on July 27th, during an event at a local industrial facility. La Porte EMS was initially dispatched to the location for a patient with difficulty breathing. While the first unit was en route, more information began to come in indicating this was a chemical-related event.

Captain Lathrem and the first EMS crew arrived to find a very chaotic scene.

Captain Lathrem immediately recognized the critical nature of the event and the need for additional units. Maintaining a calm and reassuring manner, she coordinated ten additional units from La Porte Fire, area EMS services, and industry partners and set up two separate triage sites on the scene. Each patient was identified, taken through decontamination, and assessed by medical personnel before being transported or receiving care on scene. A total of 60 patients were processed on scene, with 30 patients transported to local hospitals within two hours.

Captain Lathrem’s performance as medical command led to quick assessment, delivery of care, and seamless transport for patients. Her rapid thinking and leadership in such a chaotic and life-threatening environment is a testament to her skill and professionalism. We are fortunate to have Kelly on our team serving the La Porte community.

City of La Porte EMS has teamed up with the Texas Department of State Health Services and their Texas Vaccine for Children Program (TVFC) to help immunize children in La Porte and surrounding areas free of charge. The immunization clinics are currently held from 9PM - 12PM on the 2nd Saturday of each month at the City of La Porte EMS Headquarters located at 10428 Spencer Highway.

Vaccines are available for children 18 years of age and younger; no fee and no appointment required.

MUNICIPAL SEPARATE STORM SEWER SYSTEM The City of La Porte maintains a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System to transport stormwater. The City has also created a Storm Water Management Program to manage the quality of discharge from the system. This program includes best management practices and schedules for implementation to address six minimum control measures. For more information visit: http://LaPorteTx.gov/stormwater

The time does fly! The May 7, 2022, General and Special Elections are on the horizon. The races will be for At-Large A, District 4, and District 5 Councilperson positions. There will also be a measure for voters to consider reauthorizing the sales and use tax for municipal street maintenance and repair (required every four years by state law).

Filing for a place on the General Election ballot runs January 19 -February 18, 2022, 8-5, M-F, with the City Secretary's Office at City Hall, 604 West Fairmont Parkway.

The first day to apply for a ballot by mail for elections in 2022 is Saturday, January 1, 2022.

The deadline to register to vote for the May 7, 2022, elections is Thursday, April 7, 2022 - don't wait, register now!

Practices & games held at the LP Recreation & Fitness Center, 1322 S Broadway.

One practice per week with games on Saturdays.

Practices begin the week of March 7.

Season runs April 2 – May 21.

Volunteer coaches needed!

Registration open for 1st – 6th Grade from January 3 – February 20, for $50 per player.

NFL Flag reversible jersey & flag belt included!

Practices & games held at Fairmont Park, 3540 Farrington.

One practice per week with games on Saturdays.

Practices begin the week of March 7.

Season runs April 2 – May 21.

Volunteer coaches needed!

Held every 2nd Friday of the month (Jan 14, Feb 11, Mar 11).

Open to K – 6th Grade for only $15 per child.

Filled with fun themes, crafts, games, pizza, movie and more!

Dinner is served at 6:30PM. Held at the LP Parks & Recreation Special Programs Center,

1302 S Broadway, from 5:00PM – 10:00PM. (Location for Jan/Feb subject to change.)

Registration closes one week in advance (or when full).
