Code Compliance works in partnership with the residents of Lancaster to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment; to improve the quality of Lancaster's neighborhoods through education, enforcement, and abatement; and to respond to community concerns and attain code compliance while maintaining high professional standards and continually seeking improvements and innovations.

Parking on Unapproved Surfaces - Ord. 2006-07-24 Section 8.1015 (b) (19) Parking of vehicles in residential zoned areas shall be on approved surfaces of concrete or asphalt. If your particular subdivision parking pads are primarily gravel surfaces and historically have been used in your subdivision, then gravel is an approved surface if approved by the City of Lancaster Development Code.

Overhanging Trees and Shrubs- Ord. 2006-07-24 Section 8.1015(f) It shall be unlawful for any person in control of the property to allow trees and shrubs to hang below 14 feet on roadways/alleyways or below 7 feet on sidewalks. Failure of the owner to comply with City Ord. shall allow the City of Lancaster to abate the violation at the owner's expense.

If the amount of bulk brush is more than 12 cubic yards or is blocked by any objects (vehicles, mailboxes, etc.) it will be the owners' responsibility to remove the bulk brush from the property for an additional fee.

High Weeds and Grass - Ord. 2006-07-24 Section8.1015 (e) All premises and exterior property shall be maintained from weeds and grasses in excess of 12 inches, including rights-of-way areas between property lines and the paved street. STORMWATER EDUCATION

BE THE SOLUTION TO STORMWATER POLLUTION

WHAT IS STORMWATER?

STORMWATER IS WATER THAT RUNS OFF THE LAND AFTER IT RAINS (OR WHEN SNOW MELTS IN THE MOUNTAINS). SOME OF THIS WATER SINKS INTO THE GROUND, BUT MUCH OF IT FLOWS ACROSS LAWNS, SIDEWALKS, STREETS, AND PARKING LOTS THROUGH THE STORM DRAIN SYSTEM, DIRECTLY TO RETENTION/INFILTRATION BASINS, CITY PARKS, COMMUNITY LAKES, CANALS, WASHES, AND RIVERS, WITHOUT ANY TREATMENT. STORMWATER IS A PART OF OUR WATERSHED, AN AREA OF LAND THAT DRAINS WATER AS IT FLOWS DOWNHILL TO A CENTRAL LOCATION.

FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO PREVENT DEBRIS AND POLLUTANTS FROM ENTERING OUR STORM DRAINS:

1.

SWEEP YARD DEBRIS INTO PILES & DISPOSE OF IT PROPERLY, RATHER THAN HOSING OR BLOWING IT DOWN THE STREET.

POOL 2. WATER CAN BECOME A STORMWATER POLLUTANT WHEN IT IS GREEN, FULL OF CHEMICALS, OR COMES FROM A SALT POOL.

CAR 3. WASH WASH VEHICLES AT THE CARWASH NOT ON THE DRIVEWAY OR STREET. CAR WASHES HAVE OIL/WATER SEPARATORS THAT HELP TO RECYCLE WASH WATER.

MORE IS NOT 4. ALWAYS BETTER

USE PESTICIDES AND HERBICIDES ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS.

5.

PET WASTE BE SURE TO PICK UP AFTER YOUR PETS. PET WASTE CAN CONTAIN BACTERIA AND CAN BE A SOURCE OF STORMWATER POLLUTION THAT CAN WASH INTO RETENTION BASINS WHERE FAMILIES GO TO PLAY.

KEEP YOUR 6. VEHICLE LEAK FREE RECYCLE AUTOMOTIVE FLUIDS AT A NEIGHBORHOOD AUTO PARTS STORE.

50/50 Program Steps: Citizen contacts City and asks to participate in the Cost Share program. If funds for the current fiscal year are not available, the citizen's name is added to a group list for the following year. When funding for the following fiscal year becomes available, city staff will contact citizens through individual authorization letters, requesting a response indicating interest in continuing with the program. For each positive response, city staff visits the property and assesses the sidewalk repair needs. City staff sends the citizen an individual quote for the cost share, a sketch of the replacement limits and a 30-day deadline for submitting payments. City staff then prepares a contract with the residential property owner. The work is completed by the city and comes with a one-year warranty.
