The Coaches and Volunteers of the Predators Softball Team are working with the City to promote, introduce and educate the youth participants to youth sports, develop leaders while learning the fundamentals of softball, team work, sportsmanship, and mental and physical toughness during practice and competition. Ages 6, 7, and 8.

Late registration is open at the Lancaster Recreation Center from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays through April 5, 2019 until all spots are filled. Cost is $65 per player, contact Larry Flakes at 972-977-6533.

Season Opening is April 6 - June 1, 2019.

Swimming

The Lancaster Tiger Sharks is a yearly swim team. Swimmers are trained in all competitive strokes and develop endurance and strength. The swim team is a great way to increase fitness, learn a valuable skill and make friends. The Lancaster Tiger Sharks compete locally, regionally and statewide in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF).

New swimmers are welcome, rolling enrollment.

The City of Lancaster is proud to offer our Soccer League in partnership with Challenger Sports.

Professional coaches from the Challenger Soccer Academy will teach players the fundamental skills they need to take their game to the next level within a development league concept here in Lancaster. The league will run for 6 weeks, throughout the months of April and May. The league will consist of 4U, 6U, 8U, 10U and 12U participants.

Make a splash and join the Water Wave Fitness Class for your work out.

This 45 minute class if fun, you’ll dance with incorporate elements of different dance forms and designed to challenge dynamic balance; Cardio Intervals will challenge members' strength and endurance.

Its overall function and performance of daily task, mobility, gait, independence and flexibility.

Swim Lessons

Parents learn water safety and infants (ages 6-48 months) develop comfort in the water. Parents must enter the water for all classes.

All Learn-to-Swim classes provide instruction to swimmers of all ages and help them develop swimming and water safety skills in a positive learning environment. Each session includes four 45 minute classes over a two week period.

Your child will also be engaged in a variety of physical and educational activities. YAC Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) The Lancaster City Council created the Youth Advisory Council for the purpose of seeking input of its youth on municipal government issues, serving in an advisory nature to evaluate relevant issues. The mission of YAC is to provide youth with opportunities to volunteer and take the initiative on projects that will promote a positive change. These young service leaders help to develop and execute key initiatives, serve as ambassadors and take an active part in helping to build a more viable community.

This is not your traditional class; you will achieve your fitness goals much quicker than before. Not only will this full body work-out class leave you feeling energized and full of life, but you will be surprised at how much of a workout it is. You will have dance moves with interval training and cardio workouts that is found in many boot camp classes along with ZUMBA. Join us the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at the Lancaster Recreation Center.

Zumba ZUMBA, a class that uses hip hop, weights, salsa, merengue, mambo, martial arts, squats and lunges all in one class. Come to the party and experience a full body workout in Zumba.

Power Hour Walking Fitness

This class is designed specifically for those who are new to spinning, utilizing interval training. This means you will sit and stand during the ride. You will alternate between light tension with faster pedaling, which simulates riding on a flat ground, with slower pedaling and higher tension, which simulates riding uphill. Interval training burns fat and builds muscles. A recreation ID card is required.

Body Pump Self Pace Program for Adults

Body Pump is a conditioning and weight training, sel-paced program using stationary weight equipment and a variety of exercises for each weight station. Free with fitness atrium membership.

Walking program will help improve physical and mental health of those who walk. It will increase weight loss and improve fitness. Walking at a minimum of 30 minutes a day can improve your health greatly. Free with Recreation ID Card or $5.00 drop-in.

Adult Fitness Programs Yoga

The class is designed to get your heart rate up as you move to world beats with urban flavor and HipHop music. This athletic cardio workout will tone your body and leave you begging for more. Join U-Jam at the Lancaster Recreation Center.

Yoga does more than burn calories and tone muscles. It’s a total mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing and meditation or relaxation.

Congregate Meal Program This daily lunch program ensures a nutritious meal for senior participants who are ages 60 years of age and better. It is FREE and senior participants do not have to be a member of the Lancaster Senior Life Center. Senior participants MUST complete an intake form and nutrition assessment prior to participating in the Congregate Meal Program. RSVP is highly encouraged. This program is sponsored in part by the Dallas County, Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) and the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS). Senior adults, who are not members of the Senior Life Center, ages 50-59, can purchase the nutritious meal for an additional fee.

Monday-Friday, 12:00 p.m. until all participants have been served.

For Senior Citizen’s over the age of 62 discounts are available for water and sewer. The discount on water is $2.24 and $2.06 for sewer.

Men’s Power Hour

Learn to create unique, fun and personalized greeting cards. All supplies are provided. $1.00 per card.

Senior Men Only! This is a powerful hour of empowerment. Come and fellowship with other men to discuss and engage in conversations, specifically important to men. This very popular class is open to men of all ages and distinctions. Strength is mighty. One’s mind is mightier. Lively and spirited discussions are held, related to the male population of Older Americans regarding maturity, love, companionship, relationships, parenting, politics, etc. Empower your mind through conversations with men of all ages, races and nationalities.

Lifetime of Legacies Every day in essence is our birthday, but we designate one day each month to celebrate the lifetime and legacies of our senior adults with recognition, cupcakes, ice cream and fun. It is what we do best. “Adding Living to Life!”

Senior Adult Classes, Programs and Activities Sewing/Quilting

PuzzleRama is a wonderful way to exercise your ingenuity and your wealth of knowledge, as only seniors know.

We have a variety of puzzles to increase your “inductive reasoning aptitude� and discover logic in the palm of your hands. PuzzleRama exercises the mind, body and soul, by challenging you to pick up the pieces and solve the problem.

Bring your own materials and enjoy conversation, assistance with technique, and the company of fellow craftsmen.

A quilting horse and sewing machine is provided. Senior adults regularly create items to be donated to area hospitals and care facilities.

Reading is basic information before leaving earth, and essential to the livelihood of all individuals, so much so that it is the most popular program at the Senior Life Center. Money is fundamental. Wisdom is powerful.

Knowledge is an advantage. Nothing, however, compares to the written word on paper. Engaging, energizing, informative and empowering. Re-develop your love of reading.

Walking Club

We hold the hearts of our senior members in the palm of our hands. Get healthy and fit through walking and low impact exercise. Participants meet at the Senior Life Center and are transported to the Lancaster Recreation Center.

Older Americans Month The month of May is Older Americans Month. Join us in celebrating Older Americans at the Information and Health Fair that will be held at the Centennial Hall at Fair Park. This annual event is sponsored by Dallas Area Agency on Aging, Community Council, DART and the City of Dallas. Transportation to and from Fair Park will be available. Seating is limited. RSVP required for transportation.

Caregivers of Dallas County residents, who are 60 years of age and better, are encouraged to attend. A Benefit Specialist will be on site to answer any and all questions you have regarding Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Veteran’s Benefits and Supplemental Security Income.

“Freedom isn’t free.” Join us as we set aside a day to honor military service members who have died in the line of duty for our country.

Family Story Times: Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. for all ages – stories, songs, and a take-home craft project. The first Wednesday of each month is bilingual story time, in Spanish and English.

Toddler Time Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for ages 0-4 years – stories, songs, activities and fun!

Summer Reading Club for ages 3-12 starts with a kick-off party on Saturday June 1. Summer reading registration starts May 27th. This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories”!
