Established in 1983, Kelly Recreation Complex has been providing recreation opportunities to the community of Lakeland for over 25 years. This facility houses an expansive cardio theatre, multi-

level fitness area, several classrooms, as well as a 12,000 square foot gymnasium. For those seeking outdoor recreation, eight lighted tennis courts are also available. This spacious facility provides the residents of Lakeland access to a diverse selection of recreation activities.

Registration at the Kelly Recreation Complex is required for all activities and classes. Due to limited enrollment, pre-registration and pre-payment is recommended and sometimes required for classes.

Senior Shape Up

A high-impact cardio-fight fitness program.

Participants can burn between 600 and 800 calories per class. It incorporates fight routines, free weights, resistance training and cardio into a high-energy motivational hour!

Participants only need to wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes, boxing gloves and hand weights are provided. Everyone is welcome and this is perfect for all; young, old, experienced and beginners! * This class is especially effective when joined with Spin.

In addition, the admission fee paid for activities and classes does not include access to the cardio room, weight rooms or any other ongoing activities. This access may be gained by paying a separate fee.

The minimum age requirement is 15 years old. Participants 12-14 years of age may work out if accompanied by a parent or guardian, 18 years old and up. Anyone under the age of 12 cannot use the fitness rooms due to insurance requirements. All participants are encouraged to consult a physician before beginning any exercise program.

Co-Ed Cardio Room: Work out in our cardio room featuring Cardio Theatre and Precor & Track Master machines such as cross trainers, upright & recumbent bikes, steppers, treadmills, rowers and more!

The theatre consists of 8 flat screen televisions on different stations for your entertainment. Standard 3.5 mm headphones are required for the audio. Participants may bring their own headphones or purchase a pair for $5 at the front desk.

Co-Ed Weight Room: Top quality Magnum weight machines, including leg extension, leg sled, cablecross over, biceps, chest press, free-weight stations, and more.

Pickleball A fun game that’s played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34” at the center. It is played with a perforated plastic ball (similar to a whiffle ball) and wood or composite paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fastpaced, competitive game for experienced players. New players are always welcome.

Pre-Ballet Dance Play (Ages 3-5) Teaching creative play and socialization through dance movements, the child learns poise and balance through stretching and breathing. Dancers learn direction, grace, poise, tempo and how to work as a group.

Also, they learn isolation, focusing on one part of the body. These can be simple movements to an adult, but a small child can have difficulty putting coordination, rhythm, and tempo all together.

Medieval Dance

A fun, hands-on, interactive class designed to enhance your self-confidence and improve your people skills. Learn how to meet and greet people, the formula for a proper introduction, importance of eye contact and body language, the use of conversational clues and verbal padding, and dining etiquette. The class will include 7 one hour sessions with lectures, discussions, role play scenarios and the basics of fun social dancing.

The Beerman Family Tennis Complex, located at Edgewood Park, has 18 lighted hard surface tennis courts and two three-wall racquetball courts. Edgewood Park also has an ADA Accessible playground area, Common Ground. The complex is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Saturday and Sunday the courts will close at the same time as Common Ground Playground. Usually this will be 6 p.m. during the winter months and 8 p.m. during the Summer months. Group lessons are offered for both beginner and intermediate juniors (ages 8-18) and adult (ages 19 and up) tennis players. Dancers have visited The Debbie Allen Dance Academy in California, The Broadway Dance Center in New York City, Total Dance in Atlanta, and Joy of Motion in Washington DC to name a few. In 2013, dancers traveled to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the National Platinum Dance Competition and won 1st place in three different categories. Elite Dancers are at the highest level class offered and has a strong focus on more complex steps and choreography.

It focuses on the tools, technique, and strength needed to execute this advanced form of dance. These advanced dancers are focused on dance conditioning, advanced technique, musicality, style and execution of choreography.

This level will take that technique and challenge the dancers to find their own style as well as adjust to other teaching styles of Jazz, Ballet and Tap

— BALLET & TAP Ballet is a classic art form teaches poise, strength, grace & control, proper body placement & alignment as well as discipline. This genre is the essential foundation for all other types of dance and is foremost in learning proper technique.

TAP class is a form of dance wherein rhythmic sounds are created by the feet. This class teaches all the very basic through advanced skills in tap with emphasis on rhythm, and tempo, and ability to count music, with numbers and even sounds. ­—

BALLET 2 Ballet Level 2 is a class for any dancer with a beginning understanding of ballet technique. The class covers the fundamentals of ballet technique using simple combination patterns to allow students to focus on perfecting their technique and learn new steps. Jazz dance steps are the first part of exploring jazz dance, an energetic and exciting display of physical prowess. Jazz dance itself is a combination of classical ballet moves mixed with steps from American popular culture, including African and Celtic dance influences. While it has become a fine art form, originally jazz dance was designed to entertain, and even the basic steps have a showy, extreme feel to them.

— SUPER TOTS Super Tots is designed for toddlers age 3 and 4 and is perfect for those entering a dance class for the first time who are eager to explore the world of dance! The dancers will have a rich experience of learning how their bodies respond to music - learning skills such as locomotor (moving) and non-locomotor (staying in one place) movements in an atmosphere that is filled with imagery and self-expression.

Dancers learn basic ballet and jazz skills that help strengthen their motor coordination & body awareness. Social skills are also acquired as they develop simple class tasks such as taking turns and following directions while interacting with their peers.

Florida's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) with each having 20-30 minutes on the program as well as "Information Stations" which allow recruiters small group time with prospective students. Coleman-Bush Building History

Coleman-Bush Building was designed to be a multipurpose physical facility for the social, economic, health, cultural, recreational, and educational needs of the growing community.

Construction began on the then-named Northwest Community Center in 1974.

In October of 1980, it officially became the Coleman-Bush Building. It was named after two gentlemen who were prominent members of the community. Charles A. Coleman was a Lakeland Commissioner from 1974 until 1978. He also served as mayor pro term in 1976 and mayor in 1977. Gow M. Bush was a well known physician. They were both active and involved in the local civic affairs.

This building has proven to be an important asset to the community and has continued to fulfill the objective set up all those years ago. It has provided office space for lease by nonprofit organizations and meeting space for civic groups. Social events enhance the quality of the community life, so it is only fitting that the Coleman-Bush Building, a community cornerstone, hosts these events, as well. It also provides leisure time programming for the city’s residents. City of Lakeland Neighborhood Services & Housing Division replaced the rental suites, NAACP remains in the building.

Lakeland Community Theatre’s home is the 390 seat Lake Mirror Theater which has provided the Lakeland community with live Theater productions for more than 30 years.
