As we come to the beginning of a new year, many people look back over the previous 12 months to take stock of all that has been accomplished. We also set goals and make resolutions that we would like to achieve. In a similar vein, the City of Lakeland also looks back with pride and a sense of accomplishment in the achievement of our community and organizational goals, while remaining committed to continuously improving the municipal organization. We are proud of the efficiencies we have implemented that enable us to provide exceptional municipal services at some of the lowest costs among our peer cities. Since my appointment as City Manager roughly 11 years ago, I have been committed to making the City of Lakeland a great place to live, work and play. The City of Lakeland’s vision is to be a vibrant, innovative, culturally-inclusive, world-class community, and we can’t do this without the contributions of our hardworking and talented employees. In order to be successful in reaching our goals, we have a strong commitment to improvement and keep track of our progress through extensive data collection. It is difficult to present a comprehensive overview of all that we do within a newsletter, but we believe this Year-In-Review special edition of Access Lakeland highlights many of the services we deliver with pride for our community each day. As you will see, the City of Lakeland and our employees have done great things over the past year, and we look forward to even greater accomplishments for 2015. We encourage residents to continue to play an active role in our community by staying informed and engaged. We have great things planned for the future including new and exciting walking and bike paths that link our various neighborhoods and parks, new and expanded park facilities, and innovative street improvements. We also have upcoming renovations to Joker Marchant Stadium in celebration of the longest spring training relationship in Major League Baseball, which will continue our partnership with the Detroit Tigers for another 30 years! We are always looking at ways to improve communications with our citizens and I invite you to follow the broadcast of City Commission meetings live on LGN channel 615 (Bright House Networks) and channel 43 (Verizon FiOS). We also have a very robust website at www.lakelandgov.net that includes a live web stream of our broadcasts as well as a video-on-demand feature. The City maintains a YouTube channel, a Facebook page with over 28,000 followers that can be easily found by searching City of Lakeland, FL, as well as a very strong Twitter presence that can be found by searching @lakelandgov. Please consider following the updates of your city government through these social media outlets to keep up-to-date on the many exciting things that are occurring in Lakeland. I wish you a Happy New Year, and on behalf of the entire City of Lakeland organization, we consider it a privilege to serve our citizens and be part of this wonderful community.
