PARK SPOTLIGHT

Yarborough Park Located at 419 N. Poe Street, Lake Elsinore 92530 This historic park now has TWO new features! On July 28, 2016, City Officials opened the 34-foot by 62-foot splash pad along with an adjacent mini soccer pitch field featuring synthetic turf and goals with nets.

These new features are a great addition to the recently upgraded treehouse-themed playground that opened last summer. The park was named in honor of the late Thomas Yarborough, a former City Councilman.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR RECREATION CLASSES - Walk in registration is offered at the Lake Community Center

during our regular hours of operation. We accept cash, checks and credit/debit cards.

- To register online, visit the recreation page at: www.lake-elsinore.org/classes and click on REC1 logo. You will need to create an account. Form of payment is by credit or debit card.

- Classes may be cancelled if the minimum number of students is not met. Popular classes may require walk-in registration and the date of registration will be listed with the class information.

- NON-RESIDENT FEE an additional $5 per session, per student and applies to all students who do not reside within the city limits of Lake Elsinore for all classes offered. This fee will be added onto the class fee at the time of registration.

REFUND POLICY - A handling fee of $5 is charged for all refunds. Refunds must be requested in person at the Lake Community Center with the original receipt within 30 days of the class start date.

- Refunds may not be issued to participants who have taken 2 or more classes. Any classes attended will be subtracted from the refunded amount.

- Refunds less than $10 will be credited to a family account.

- For activities that are noted as “No Refunds� there will be no monies refunded.

RENTALS/RESERVATIONS The Lake Community Center is now available for private rentals including birthdays, anniversaries, receptions, banquets and special events. Fees and restrictions apply and a minimum of sixty (60) days notice is required for all private use, as available.

Kids will challenge their curiosity in this series of Pre-K classes. Language, reading and math skills will be explored. On July 13, the City of Lake Elsinore and Summerly celebrated the groundbreaking and start of construction of the future Summerly Community Park. The first phase of this park is expected to be completed in late 2017.

Lions Club Drop-Off Site for Glasses, Hearing-Aids and Cell Phones The Lions Club will refurbish your old glasses, hearing-aids and cell phones and provide them to those in need. This is a great way to recycle items you no longer need and help others. The drop-off box is located in the Senior Center office.

Ceramics Join us every Monday at 12:30 p.m. for ceramics painting.

We will be painting everything from insects, ring stands to mason jar tops. All available for purchase, prices may vary depending on size of ceramic. For more information please call the Senior Center.

AARP Drivers Safety Come to our AARP Drivers Safety course. Learn the new rules of the road and refresh your memory on the current laws. You may even save on your car insurance! Every winter Lake Elsinore is prepared to handle all storm related issues and dispatch crews to manage storm related issues. The City encourages residents and businesses to be prepared also.

Before the rain begins: check into flood insurance. According to FEMA, there is a 26% chance of experiencing a flood over the life of a 30 year mortgage. It is important to realize that standard homeowner and renter insurance policies do not cover losses due to flooding. As part of the City’s ongoing effort to reduce flood losses, aid in accurate insurance rating, and promote awareness of flood insurance, the City of Lake Elsinore joined the FEMA National Flood Insurance Program’s (NFIP), Community Rating System (CRS). More details about the CRS program are available online at http://www.fema.gov/business/nfip/crs.shtm. The City’s current rating qualifies residents of Lake Elsinore for a 10% discount in the premium cost of flood insurance for NFIP policies currently issued or renewed in SFHA’s. You are encouraged to buy flood insurance—whether or not your home is located within the SFHA. Call your insurance agent, lender, or the National Flood Insurance Program at 1-888-379-9531 or visit their website at www.floodsmart.gov. There is a 30 day waiting period before coverage goes into effect, so don’t delay, call today!

• Emergency Alert System (EAS) Stay current with rising water conditions, check all local & cable TV channels, (101.3 FM, 95.5 FM) radio and newspapers.

Safety During a Storm. The following tips may be helpful: • Be prepared to evacuate before the water level reaches your property. Move valuables to upper floors or higher elevations and bring outdoor possessions inside the house or tie them down securely.

• Keep a battery powered radio tuned to a local station. Follow emergency instructions given.

• If you are caught in the house by rising waters, move to the second floor and, if necessary, to the roof. Take warm clothing, a flashlight and a portable radio with you.

Wait for help. Don’t try to swim to safety. Rescue teams will look for you.

• Remember: WATER DEPTHS DURING FLOODS ARE DECEPTIVE. Try to avoid flooded areas and DO NOT attempt to walk or drive through floodwaters.

• Turn off all utilities at the main power switch and close the main gas valve if evacuation appears necessary.

• Sanitize and fill bathtubs, sinks and jugs with clean water in case regular supplies are contaminated.

• Stock the car with blankets, first aid kit, flashlights, dry clothing and any special medication needed by your family. Park the car in an area safe from rising waters.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE Each month, the City of Lake Elsinore partners with the County of Riverside to offer hazardous waste and e-waste disposal at no cost to Lake Elsinore residents. Collections are held on the first Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Public Works Yard located at 521 N. Langstaff. Restrictions apply to the chemical load of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per transport. NO business waste allowed. All paints, bleaches, cleaners, pesticides, etc. are accepted. Liquid waste must be in sealed, marked containers. Computer towers, computer monitors, microwaves, TV’s, radios, fluorescent lighting, light bulbs and batteries are all accepted e-waste products.
