Welcome

to your monthly guide to special events at Joondalup Libraries. Our libraries are at the heart of the community. They are welcoming spaces where people of all ages can come together to learn, share and grow. This month’s events include a Discovery Session on Tom Bunning, a Lino Print Workshop, a Financial Freedom Expo and a session on creating videos in Canva. All this accompanied by our usual raft of Discovery and Parenting sessions. Join us for the opportunity to learn something new, meet new people and engage in your community. 1

Our libraries also hold many regular programs, clubs and groups for all ages and interests. From Story Time and Rhyme Time for little ones to book clubs, craft groups and tech help for adults, there’s something for everyone. Adult events Discovery Session - Lino Print Workshop Tuesday 1 September, 10am-1pm Joondalup Library

Learn how to use lino carving tools and printmaking inks to create your own unique design that you will want to frame. Whether you’re new to lino, or you’ve dabbled before, after this class you’ll be able to confidently tackle your own creative projects from home. All equipment supplied. Cost $30. Discovery Session - The Bunning Brother

Wednesday 2 September, 6-7pm Joondalup Library - Local History Tom Bunning helped make Bunnings one of the great successes of WA private enterprise and a household name nationwide. Tom joined Bunnings on the eve of the Great Depression and helped save the company from collapse. He laid the foundations for the eventual takeover of Bunnings by Wesfarmers in 1991. Cost $5. Community Session - My Aged Care with Advocare

Friday 4 September, 9:30-10:30am Duncraig Library Join Advocare WA for an informative session on recent changes to My Aged Care. Discover how these updates may affect older people, carers and families and learn about the free advocacy, information and support Advocare provides. No cost. Register online. 2


Digital Drop-in - Introduction to Computers

Friday 4 September, 10-11am Woodvale Library This session introduces the basics of using a computer, including understanding hardware and software, navigating the desktop, using a mouse and keyboard and exploring common applications. Note: this is an information session, however you can bring your own phone or device. No cost. No bookings required.

Parenting Session - Cloth Nappies

Monday 7 September, 9:30-11:30am Woodvale Library Join Sara from Earthwise Eco Bums for a friendly, practical session that takes the mystery out of modern cloth nappies. See cloth nappies in action and feel confident making the switch, while also understanding the health and environmental benefits. No cost. Register online.

Community Session LUMA: Fuel Yourself First

Wednesday 9 September, 6-7pm Whitford Library This Women’s Health Week join a LUMA specialist in women’s health and wellbeing. This session promotes practical, sensible eating without feeling overwhelmed or restricted. Learn simple, budget-friendly swaps and habits that support energy, mood and long-term health in women. 3

Community Session Understanding Matrescence

Tuesday 15 September, 10-11am Woodvale Library Becoming a mother is more than welcoming a baby - it’s a profound personal transformation. Join us for this engaging and evidence-informed presentation exploring matrescence, the physical, emotional and identity changes that occur during the transition to motherhood. Ideal for mothers, co-parents, carers and anyone supporting families. No cost. Register online.

National Family Day Financial Freedom Expo

Monday 21 September, 3-5pm | Joondalup Library Celebrate National Family Day by investing in your loved ones’ financial future. Visit this family friendly expo and meet a selection of organisations that can help you build generational wealth, start a family budget and teach kids the value of money. No cost. Register online.

Discovery Session - Experiences in Iceland Tuesday 22 September, 6-7pm | Duncraig Library

Iceland is a dream place for many travel-lovers, whether they’re chasing waterfalls, the Northern Lights, Icelandic horses or even a tasty Icelandic hot dog! Travel podcaster Amanda Kendle will share tales from her own travels, interesting learnings from her interviews with Icelanders and tips for anyone hoping to see Iceland for themselves. Cost $5. Discovery Session - Creating Simple Videos in Canva Wednesday 23 September, 10-11am Whitford Library

Discover how to create eye-catching videos using Canva in this hands-on workshop delivered by the Libraries’ Promotions Officer, Jill MacDonald. Learn the basics of video creation, including choosing and customising templates, adding images, video clips, text, music and simple animations. Cost $5. Book and pay online.

Discovery Session - Spring into Embroidery Saturday 26 September, 9:30-11:30am Duncraig Library

Join the Embroiderers’ Guild of WA as they share their tips and tricks with you while you create your own stitching project - a spring design to decorate your home. This workshop is suitable for beginners and you will be provided with everything you need to complete the project. This two hour session is for adults. Cost $10. Book and pay online.

Camera Club

The Joondalup Camera Club operates under a limited membership and is currently taking new members. The Club members take part in monthly photo challenges and excursions. Membership costs $30 per semester. Call 9400 4761 or email library.programs@joondalup.wa.gov.au for further information. 5

Imagination Station

Sunday 6 September, 2-3pm, Joondalup Library Learn new skills and let your creative side run free with craft activities that will engage your imagination! Suitable for ages 7-12 years. No cost. Registration essential.

Justice of the Peace (JP) service This is a free service to the community and no appointment is necessary. If you need certified copies of documents, bring the original and the copies to be signed. Some documents require a second witness so please bring someone with you if this is the case. Joondalup Library
