Discover and belong at Joondalup Libraries

Our libraries are at the heart of the community. They are welcoming spaces where people of all ages can come together to learn, share, and grow.

This booklet is your guide to the regular programs, clubs and groups held at our four libraries. From Story Time and Rhyme Time for little ones to book clubs, craft groups, and tech help for adults, there’s something for everyone.

As well as the regular programs outlined in this booklet, Joondalup Libraries also host regular Discovery and Community sessions, Meet the Author events and other community events.

Whatever your interests, Joondalup Libraries is here to inspire you and support your journey.

Children’s programs

At Joondalup Libraries, we believe every story is a seed that helps little minds grow. Our regular children’s programs, like Story Time and Rhyme Time, create a gentle, welcoming space where families can connect, laugh, and learn together.

Through songs, rhymes, and delightful tales, we nurture early literacy skills and spark a lifelong love of reading and language. These moments aren’t just fun; they’re building blocks for your child’s future.

Family Time ��

Saturday, 10am | Woodvale Library Ages 18 months–4 years

Join us for a fun-filled session designed for pre-schoolers and their families. Enjoy enchanting tales, lively music and joyful moments. Start your weekend with laughter and learning.

STEAMing into Story Time ��

Saturday, 10am | Whitford Library

Saturday | Ages 2-7 years

Children can dive into exciting Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) activities that spark imagination, foster creativity, and build critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Story Time ��

Weekly, 10am | various locations Ages 2-4 years

These sessions nurture a love of reading, spark the imagination, and provide valuable opportunities for children to connect and socialise beyond the home.

Toddler Time ��

Weekly, 10am | various locations For toddlers 18-30 months

These sessions inspire a love for books and language, while giving your child the freedom to move, explore, and express their creativity.

Only held during school term.

Baby Rhyme Time ��

Weekly, 10am | various locations Only held during school term For babies 0-18 months

Discover new rhymes and songs while helping your baby build early language and social skills, all in a fun, welcoming environment.

Sensory Story Time ��

Check website for dates and location Only held during school term Ages 2-5 years

These sessions are aimed at children who prefer to experience Story Time in a quiet small group setting.

Sensory Story Time is ideal for children who benefit from gentle, sensory-friendly experiences.

Coder Dojo ��

Wednesday, 4pm | Joondalup Library

Ages 7-17 years

Explore the world of coding in a fun, supportive environment. Sessions run during school term. Bring your own laptop if possible.

Imagination Station ��

First Sunday of the month, 2pm

Joondalup Library

Ages 5–12 years

Drop in for an hour of entertainment, learn new skills and let your creative side run free with craft activities that will engage your imagination.

Junior Tabletop Games

Thursday, 4pm | Whitford Library Ages 8-12

Join a term-long adventure role playing campaign or play a new game each week with your friends – we have something for everyone.

Lego Club – Challenge, Create, Construct ��

Join in the fun of creative LEGO play. Share and display your creations with the group and library visitors.

Minecraft Engineers ��

Check website for days and locations Ages 7-10 years

A fun weekly club where children use creative mode to build in Minecraft. A personal device with Minecraft installed is required in order to participate. Walk-in’s welcome, space permitting.

Art Group ��

Monday, 9.30am | Woodvale Library

Join our weekly community art group for inspiration, great chats and new friendships in a creative space.

Book Clubs

As well as eight fiction book clubs across our four libraries, we also have a non-fiction book club and a cookbook book club.

Brain Games

Join us for an hour of puzzles, quizzes and games at this social group for older people.

Canasta Club ��

Friday, 1pm | Woodvale Library

Improve your concentration and logical thinking while enjoying a friendly game of canasta.

Chess Afternoons ��

Thursday, 4pm | Woodvale Library

A session for anyone who wants to learn how to play chess or have a friendly game. All ages welcome.

Crochet Groups

Join one of our friendly groups to crochet with others in a casual social group.

Cuttings and Cake ��

Third Saturday of the month, 9.30am Duncraig Library

Join our monthly community garden clinic. Where you can swap spare plants and ask gardening questions while enjoying morning tea.

Embroidery Group ��

First Thursday of the month, 5pm | Woodvale Library

Bring along your own embroidery project and join this friendly group for craft and chats.

English Conversation Group ��

Wednesday, 1pm | Joondalup Library

This weekly group is perfect for those who know a bit of English and want to improve their skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. Sessions are very informal with no written work.

Family History Help ��

Check website for details

Explore your family history with the help of an expert volunteer. Access online tools like Ancestry.com and Findmypast, and borrow resources from the genealogy collection to enrich your research.

French Conversation Group ��

Thursday, 5pm | Joondalup Library

An informal weekly group for people who know some French and want to improve their conversation skills.

Games in the Library

Enjoy the vast selection of games available for patrons while visiting. Choose to play Scrabble, Mah-jong, Chess, Yahtzee, Canasta and many more. Bring a friend or two and enjoy the challenge.

Game On! ��

Thursday, 10am | Joondalup Library

Come along for a session of fun and games in a friendly atmosphere. Choose to play Scrabble, Upwords, Backgammon, Yahtzee, Rummikub, Boggle, card games and many more.

Jigsaws ��

Third Wednesday of the month, 2pm Duncraig Library

Challenge your memory and spatial reasoning with a variety of puzzles, and connect with fellow puzzle lovers.

Justice of the Peace (JP) service

This is a free service to the community and no appointment is necessary. If you need certified copies of documents, bring the original and the copies to be signed. Some documents require a second witness so please bring someone with you if this is the case.

Knitting Groups ��

Join our friendly knitters and work on your own creations, knit something for charity or participate in a community project.

Mah-jong ��

Keep your brain active with this popular and challenging game. Sessions available for beginners and more experienced players.

Memory Café ��

Fourth Friday of the month, 9.30am Duncraig Library

The City of Joondalup hosts a monthly dementia café in partnership with Forget-Me-Not, for those living with memory loss, their carers and loved ones.

Mindful Mending ��

Second Tuesday of the month, 5.30pm Duncraig Library

Whether you’re an experienced sashiko mender or just curious about visible mending, come along to this monthly group to share ideas and breathe new life into well-loved items.

Tabletop Games ��

Saturday, 9.30am | Whitford Library

Whether you’re a gaming pro or a beginner, dive into exciting board and tabletop games. Our helpful facilitator ensures a fun time for all.

Tech Help

Build your independence and confidence with technology, the internet and all things online with the help of our friendly staff and Tech Help volunteers.

Writers’ Group

Expand and develop the craft of writing in this supportive group. The group meets twice a month and encourages all levels and types of writing.
