Our libraries are at the heart of the community. They are welcoming spaces where people of all ages can come together to learn, share and grow. This booklet is your guide to the regular programs, clubs and groups held at our four libraries. From Story Time and Rhyme Time for little ones to book clubs, craft groups and Tech Help for adults, there’s something for everyone. As well as the regular programs outlined in this booklet, Joondalup Libraries also host regular Discovery and Community sessions, Meet the Author events, school holiday programs and other community events. Whatever your interests, Joondalup Libraries are here to inspire you and support your journey. Writers’ Group
Expand and develop the craft of writing in this supportive group. The group meets twice a month and encourages all levels and types of writing. Group membership cost required. Enquiries to 9400 4761.

Kwenda | Also known as the Southern Bandicoot
Luckily for this cute little ground dweller, Kwenda were not traditionally highly prized as a food source. Compared to spearing a large Kangaroo for example, a Kwenda is just too small of a feed for a large hungry family. In times when food was scarce, like during drought, they were known to be eaten. Although for some Noongar clans, the young women would avoid eating Kwenda completely because it was believed to affect fertility. The old people knew Kwenda’s were very helpful to the ongoing health of the bushlands. As they forage alone at night, they use their long, curved toes to dig in the undergrowth, dispersing seeds and maintaining soil health by burying leaf litter. Modern science has confirmed this ancient Aboriginal Kaartdijin (knowledge), and the Kwenda is credited for being a major factor in species diversity and the overall health of the bush ecosystem. 17
