Getting Around Irving by Public Transit

IRVING HONORS VETERANS

Whether you’re getting around Irving or connecting to destinations throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth region, there are several public transit options to choose from. Irving residents and visitors can use Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) bus, GoLink, Paratransit and light rail services; Trinity Railway Express (TRE); and the Irving Connector to get where they need to go. Irving Connector Irving Connector by Via is a public transportation solution for Irving residents affected by the discontinuation of DART's bus routes 225 and 255. The service also includes The Loop at Las Colinas, a route around Lake Carolyn. Irving Connector Routes  Route 225  Route 255  The Loop at Las Colinas Beginning Nov. 2, Irving Connector 225 and 255 will operate on a usage-driven schedule based on peak ridership times. Riders connecting between Irving Connector and DART must purchase those tickets separately as DART and Irving Connector use separate ticketing systems. Check the “Citymapper” app for current van arrival times, schedules and tickets. DART Fixed Bus Routes  Bus Route 25  Bus Route 227  Bus Route 229  Bus Route 230  Bus Route 231

Important Water Conservation Update An extremely hot and dry summer took its toll on Jim Chapman Lake, the City of Irving’s main water source. Irving Water Utilities asks residents to continue doing their part to help protect the supply and limit the need for further restrictions. When levels at Jim Chapman Lake drop below 65% full, Irving’s Drought Plan calls for Stage One measures. Stay updated for official announcements regarding the latest drought status and water use restrictions. Staying informed and conserving now can help preserve water as drought conditions evolve. As temperatures cool, reducing irrigation is a simple way to make a difference. Know Your Watering Days The year-round, twice-weekly watering schedule remains in place. Water only as needed on designated days:  Odd-numbered addresses: Sunday and Wednesday  Even-numbered addresses: Tuesday and Saturday  No watering on Monday, Thursday or Friday

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS NOV. 1: CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS, CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES It is that time of the year again: turn back the clocks and change the smoke detector batteries. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, and clocks should be turned back one hour to 1 a.m. During this time, residents also should replace smoke detector batteries. This practice ensures smoke detectors are operating effectively in the event of a fire, where every second counts. 

'Killing the Negative' Explores Art and Verse at Irving Archives Museum What happens when a work of art inspires a poem? Find out at the Irving Archives and Museum, where "Killing the Negative: A Conversation in Art & Verse" brings visual art and poetry together to explore history, representation and the stories we choose to remember.

The multimedia exhibition pairs large-scale drawings by artist Joel Daniel Phillips with poetry responding to historic photographs that were deliberately censored during the Great Depression. Together, these works invite visitors to reconsider whose stories are told, whose voices are heard, and how art can help fill the gaps in our understanding of the past. To expand on the conversation, the museum will host a free poetry slam featuring local poets on Nov. 14. Join the community for an engaging celebration of the power of artistic expression. "Killing the Negative: A Conversation in Art & Verse" will be on view through Jan. 7 at the Irving Archives and Museum, 801 W. Irving Blvd.

Esters Elevated Storage Tank Reaches Key Milestone After months of construction and a fresh coat of paint, the tank bowl of the new Esters elevated storage tank was raised into place in October. Raising of the tank bowl brings the 2.5-million-gallon water tank one step closer to completion. Located at 2601 Esters Road, the new tank adds capacity for the city's water system to support ongoing growth in Irving. The next phase of construction includes adding a top plate to the tank and installing electrical and instrumentation equipment for safety and water level monitoring. Once construction of the new tank is complete, the old Esters water tank will be demolished, and the area will be paved over to expand parking at the Irving Police and Fire Training Facility.

Keep FOG Out of Pipes and Drains Never pour fats, oils and grease (FOG) down the drain. When FOG enters drains, it sticks to the inside of pipes, hardens and builds up until it causes clogs and sewer backups into streets and homes. Disposing of FOG Properly: Absorb FOG with a paper towel or pour it into a sealed container such as a jar, then toss it into the trash. Don't have a sealed container? Pour FOG into a small bowl lined with foil. Once cooled, wrap up the foil and toss in the trash. Did you catch any of ICTN's Game of the Week coverage?
