Purpose Further my EVT certifications for work on fire trucks.
How did the travel apply to the job? The travel to Michigan was directly related to my responsibilities in Fleet Maintenance. The training focused on fire apparatus, which provided valuable information and hands-on knowledge applicable to maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and servicing the City's fire apparatus and emergency vehicles. The trip also provided the opportunity to test for EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification.
How did training add value to the city? The training increased my knowledge and understanding of fire apparatus systems, maintenance requirements, and repair practices. Obtaining the opportunity to test for EVT certification will further strengthen the City's in-house expertise and help improve our ability to properly diagnose, maintain, and repair emergency vehicles. This knowledge can also be shared with other Fleet Maintenance staff to improve our overall capabilities and potentially reduce downtime and outside repair costs.
General comments: The trip was very beneficial and provided both classroom and hands-on learning opportunities. The training was directly applicable to my responsibilities with the City, and the opportunity to test for EVT certification added additional value to the trip. Overall, it was a worthwhile training experience that will benefit Fleet Maintenance and the City.

Purpose Travel to attend the national annual Water Environment Federation Technical Expo & Conference (WEFTEC) Conference in New Orleans, LA.
How did the travel apply to the job? Travel was to New Orleans for the Annual WEFTEC (Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference). As a licensed engineer in Missouri and the City Engineer overseeing all of our infrastructure capital improvement projects, I was able to obtain the rest of my required CEU (Continuing Education Units) to renew my professional engineering license this year and gain some insight on new technologies available for utility projects. I was also able to network with my peers, potential contractors, and the engineering consultant firms we work with on a regular basis throughout my time at the conference, to help strengthen our relationships and make others aware of all of the projects we have going on, and upcoming here at the City.
How did training add value to the city? The educational sessions provided insight into how other municipalities are handling utility projects and how they run their operation and maintenance programs for their utility networks and treatment plants. There was also good discussion on how all of the new technologies that are emerging (many of which use AI) are helping to streamline and simplify operation and maintenance procedures. There were also some leadership courses which were beneficial for me in my role as the City Engineer overseeing our engineering team. I was also able to network with and promote some of our upcoming utility projects to potential contractors and engineering consultant firms which we will need assistance from during the design and construction processes.
General comments: The WEFTEC conference was great. This was my first opportunity to attend this conference, and I was very impressed with both the exhibit hall/expo as well as the abundance of educational sessions that were available, which touched on a variety of good topics. I look forward to attending this conference in the future.

Purpose This conference provides opportunities to learn, connect, and innovate in the fields of vegetation management, sustainability, and urban forestry. It will strengthen my skills, expand my network, and bring back insights to our organization we can use immediately. At the conference I can discover cutting-edge solutions, build lasting partnerships, and shape the future of utility and environmental collaboration. The Trees & Utilities Conference is where utility vegetation managers and urban forestry professionals come together to learn about new urban forestry solutions.
How did the travel apply to the job? Forestry conference for continuing education units
How did training add value to the city? Increased my knowledge of utility vegetation management and the use of AI in urban forestry environment.
General comments: I felt this conference was very informative, was also nice to network with my peers and different utilities to see how they are utilizing technology into their integrated vegetation management.
