LETTER FROM

THE PRESIDENT OC Team, 2023 is a year for the history books at City of Hope Orange County. As I walked the halls and spoke with each of you there was a common theme we heard: The experience at City of Hope Orange County is different than anywhere else. And in our very first yearbook, you’ll see why. You are among the brightest minds and warmest hearts in cancer care. And you’ve joined a national organization at the epicenter of finding a speed to the cure. I hope you’ll join me in reflecting on the lessons learned in 2023 and in celebrating our collective efforts to create the best experience for our patients, their families and all of you. We have a lot to celebrate. 2023 was the first full year of operations at City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center. Teams united around the needs of our patients and staff through a series of resettlings in our regional network. We launched new programs and first-in-the-region technologies. We’ve received numerous awards, certifications, and transformational philanthropic gifts. And above all – countless patients and their families were given new levels of hope. Thank you for answering the call to join us on this journey together. Blessings to you and your families.

ANNETTE M. WALKER PRESIDENT, CITY OF HOPE ORANGE COUNTY

RESEARCH & CLINICAL OPERATIONS HIGHLIGHTS 06

19,229 UNIQUE PATIENTS SERVED IN THE REGION IN FY23

7 NEW PHYSICIANS HIRED JUST SOME OF WHAT WE MADE HAPPEN IN 2023 All OC regional network clinics moved from independent patient access systems to the centralized call center, streamlining patient appointment scheduling. OC campus imaging team received ACR Accreditation in record time. The Joint Commission visited four City of Hope sites. The survey at COH OC LFCC had no reported findings for our ambulatory care teams. Drive-Through Respiratory Service was established for COH OC LFCC patients who develop symptoms to ensure they get the care they need during a vulnerable time. Staff, patients, and their family members over the age of 45 were encouraged to get screened with Lance Uradomo, M.D., as we launched colonoscopy screenings. Jennifer Tseng, M.D., lead the first U.S. Multisite Clinical Trial using robotic singleport mastectomies. New patient classes and support groups launched to aid patients and their caregivers with training and resources. Our third O.R. was opened and our hours were extended, expanding our surgical capabilities.

We've taken a significant step forward by launching the preparatory phase of our outpatient Auto Stem Cell Transplant (SCT) program at City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center. This technique replaces unhealthy bone marrow with healthy stem cells from your own body.

City of Hope has also partnered with Chapman University School of Pharmacy for two residency programs: Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice and Postgraduate Year (PGY2) Medication Safety.

SEVERAL NEW TRIALS WERE LAUNCHED, FURTHER PROVIDING OUR PATIENTS ACCESS TO 800+ PHASE 1-3 CLINICAL TRIALS IN CITY OF HOPE’S ROBUST RESEARCH ENGINE.

RADIATION ONCOLOGY City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center is the only location in Orange County to provide the three most innovative radiotherapy systems available.

TRUEBEAM The TrueBeam radiotherapy system provides a variety of treatment techniques to address a broad range of cancer cases. Technology integration enables clinicians to treat a wider array of cancer cases using a diverse range of radiation therapies.

3

OF THE MOST INNOVATIVE RADIOTHERAPY SYSTEMS

MRIDIAN MRIdian Offers Patients Increased Precision in Fewer Sessions. This highly anticipated addition to our radiation oncology suite targets complex tumors that may be difficult to treat with more traditional therapies. While traditional technology can require up to 20 radiation therapy sessions, MRIdian can treat some cancer types in as few as three to five sessions.

ETHOS The Ethos system leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to offer daily adaptive radiation therapy that combines image-guided radiation with the ability to customize radiation therapy. This personalizes the therapy based on the patient's anatomy and position at the time of treatment. In addition, Ethos is designed to deliver an entire adaptive treatment in 15-30 minutes, from patient setup through treatment delivery.

LET’S BE FRANK ABOUT CANCER GALA Founded by grateful patient Frank Di Bella before the arrival of City of Hope to Orange County, the annual gala continues a tradition of raising funds from OC residents in support of cancer research at City of Hope. This event has raised more than $9 milllion since its start.

HOPE STARTS WITH US We relaunched Hope Starts with Us employee giving campaign that empowers staff to help fund new programs, fuel groundbreaking areas of research, and most importantly, improve and enhance the patient experience.

COTO DE CAZA HOME TOUR This one-day event offers access to some of the most beautiful homes within the Coto de Caza community, and the talented designers who helped create them. This event raised $50K for City of Hope Orange County.

A WHOLE NEW STANDARD OF CARE

CITY OF HOPE RECEIVED THE SINGLE LARGEST PHILANTHROPIC CONTRIBUTION FOR CANCER CARE AND RESEARCH IN OUR HISTORY — A TRANSFORMATIVE $100 MILLION GIFT FROM PANDA EXPRESS CO-FOUNDERS/CO-CEOS, ANDREW AND PEGGY CHERNG, PH.D.

10

“WE’VE BEEN BUILDING OUR INTEGRATIVE ONCOLOGY PRACTICES IN ORANGE COUNTY SINCE BEFORE WE OPENED THE IRVINE CAMPUS IN 2022 AND ALREADY OFFER PATIENTS MANY INNOVATIVE SERVICES,” DR. LEE EXPLAINED. “THIS GIFT WILL ALLOW US TO ADD NEW SERVICES AND INCREASE THE RESOURCES DEDICATED TO OUR EXISTING THERAPIES, WHILE ALSO REPLICATING OUR OFFERING ACROSS CITY OF HOPE - ULTIMATELY BRINGING HEALING AND RELIEF TO MORE OF OUR PATIENTS.”

This extraordinary gift from the Panda Charitable Family Foundation will help City of Hope create a first-of-its-kind, national integrative oncology program that brings together Eastern and Western medicine to improve outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients and survivors.

The gift will establish the Cherng Family Center for Integrative Oncology at City of Hope, led by Richard T. Lee, M.D., one of the nation’s top experts in this field, and Edward Kim, M.D., M.B.A., whose leadership in recruiting Dr. Lee set the foundation for this incredible gift.

MAKING AN IMPACT IN THE COMMUNITY 18

GRATEFUL PATIENTS AND THEIR STORIES 20

“Patient care makes all the difference when you have cancer, and the word ‘care’ is highlighted throughout every experience I've had with City of Hope Orange County.” - Jim Madrid

ELIZABETH COOMBS Sometimes art can express things that words cannot. For Elizabeth Coombs, her tattoo is a visible reminder of her physical and emotional healing was well worth any fleeting discomfort. The word “hope” is tattooed on the inside of her forearm in graceful cursive. The “e” forms the shape of a cancer ribbon, with a heart at the bottom, and the blue ink represents colon cancer awareness. BROOKE KENERSON Brooke Kenerson shares every step of her acute promyelocytic leukemia journey on Instagram, with friends and family calling her the “Platelet Princess.” “I don’t feel like [the diagnosis] changed me,” said Kenerson, 22. “I feel like I changed how you can look at this process, just being superpositive about it. That’s how I am as a person, so it didn’t make me feel differently. I made something like this feel manageable and like a positive thing.” JIM MADRID When Madrid learned he had lung cancer, one of the first steps he took was to get a notebook to start journaling his thoughts and listing everything he was grateful for. His first entry read: “I accept this. Watch this. Watch what I do!” It should come as no surprise that Madrid says the key to navigating his cancer journey has been to focus on embracing change, walking hand-in-hand with loved ones and cultivating a positive mindset.

CHRISTIAN BEDOLLA A trip to the hospital was the start of a yearlong journey that led Christian Bedolla to being diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer: subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma, which affects tissue just below the skin. After being enrolled in a clinical trial at City of Hope, Bedolla says the treatment is proving effective and his life plans are back on track of becoming a firefighter.

"As I walked in, I was full of fear; when I walked out, I was full of hope." - Todd Kennedy

STAFF STORIES 22

"On top of the beautiful view and scenery, my favorite part about working at City of Hope Orange County is getting to work with my amazing coworkers. I can't speak enough about all their incredible work for our patients." - Sarah Choi, Patient Access TINA WANG, CLINICAL NURSE “I was a cancer patient and was under multiple nurses’ care. The treatment itself may not be pleasant, but my experience with those nurses were unforgettable.” Wang received bone marrow transplantation and CAR T cell therapy through a leading-edge clinical trial being conducted at City of Hope.

IRENE & NIK KIRKWOOD

COH OC SURF CLUB

Mother and son duo found their calling helping patients, following Irene’s own journey with breast cancer when Nik was a small child.

The City of Hope Orange County Surf Club includes doctors and staff who love the ocean and surfing.

Now Irene helps patients navigate through the second floor of COH OC LFCC. As for Nik you can always find him smiling and making patients laugh as they walked through the front doors of the cancer center.

The club gets together about once a month to share waves. Members have nicknames, and the club even has a tagline, “Where cancer meets carving.”

OUR VISION FOR CITY OF HOPE ORANGE COUNTY HAS BEEN A TRUE “IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME” IDEAL. IN APRIL 2023 WE SERVED OUR 1,000TH PATIENT. LATER IN THE YEAR WE REACHED ANOTHER MILESTONE...

On Aug. 22, 2022, City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center opened its doors, completing a region-wide network of advanced cancer care that delivers lifesaving breakthroughs to the people of Orange County, Long Beach and beyond. In August 2023 we celebrated our one-year anniversary of completing the region-wide network of advanced cancer care. The anniversary reminded us that we have 365 chances each year to deliver hope through pioneering cancer research and treatment. With expanded access to leading-edge care, we are one step closer to realizing a world without cancer. The milestone recognized the collective hope, resilience, and progress that extends beyond the walls of our facilities to touch lives across the region. Together, each location in our network, and each of you, have contributed greatly to the remarkable milestones reached during our historic journey!
