After School & Camps

After School Program

(Grades K - 5)

Our after school programs offer a variety of activities, including homework time, gym games, arts & crafts, outside play and other planned activities. Parents are responsible for daily snacks. All after school programs follow Guilford County Schools' traditional calendar and schedule for inclement weather-related closures.

Allen Jay Recreation Center

School bus transportation is provided from Allen Jay Elementary and Allen Jay Prep (fifth grade). Parents need to arrange school bus transportation at their child's school. Transportation is provided from The Point, Triangle Lake Montessori, Jamestown Elementary, Millis Road Elementary, Allen Jay Elementary and Allen Jay Prep (Grade 5). We accept drop-offs from home or other schools.

Deep River Recreation Center

Transportation is provided from Southwest Elementary, Phoenix Academy, Florence Elementary and Colfax Elementary. We accept drop-offs from home or other schools.

Oakview Recreation Center

Transportation is provided from Oakview Elementary, Shadybrook Elementary, Johnson Street Global Studies, Montlieu Academy of Technology and Northwood Elementary. We accept drop-offs from home or other schools.

Discovery Sports After School Program (Grades 1 - 5)

The Morehead Discovery Sports After School Program is designed to develop and improve the all-around sports skill sets of each participant. Through drills and practice, participants will learn the fundamentals of a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional sports and games, as well as teamwork and sportsmanship. The result will be an ability to play sports in pickup or recreational play settings and sufficient instruction to try out and play for an organized team. Transportation is provided from Montlieu Academy of Technology, Parkview Elementary, Union Hill Elementary and Kirkman Park Elementary.

ASPIRE

ASPIRE stands for Adaptive Sports, Programs and Inclusive Recreation.

ASPIRE offers a variety of programming meant to keep participants continually active, social and engaged. Friends of all abilities are welcome! For more information on programs, please call 336.883.3477.

Fishabilities (Ages 5+)

Enjoy a day of fishing, fun and friends! Adaptive fishing equipment and bait will be provided. Advance registration is required to guarantee an event t-shirt. Please contact Timpani Troxler for more information or to register.

Lucky Strikes Bowling (Ages 5+)

Looking for some weekend fun? Bowlers, friends and families with players of all abilities are welcome! Ramps are available if needed. Bowlers will pay High Point Bowling Center directly $2.50 per game for their games, not to exceed two games per week. All bowlers must be registered and paid by 11:45 a.m. each week. ASPIRE On The Water: Demo Day (Ages 8+)

Through a partnership with Get Outdoors and PAIR-NC, this program provides an opportunity for people with disabilities (and their families and friends) to safely try kayaking! Adaptive kayaks will be available, and trained volunteers will be present to assist if needed. This is a drop-in activity. Registration takes place on-site. Wood Carving for Seniors (Ages 50+)

Enjoy the satisfaction of shaping wood into beautiful, handcrafted creations while connecting with a group of fellow wood carvers! This is a great opportunity to hone your creative skills and create something truly meaningful. Registration is not required, but participants should bring their own materials. Beginners are welcome.

Instructional

Swim Lessons (Ages 3 - 14)

Offered from Pre-K to Youth Level 3, these lessons follow the American Red Cross's "Learn To Swim" program for swimming and water safety skills. All participants must be accompanied in the pool by a parent/guardian. Note: Full participation in all sessions is required for development and progression of swimming skills, so please make sure your child can attend all sessions before signing up.

Cheer Tumble & Stunt Clinic (Ages 7 - 14)

This seven-week cheer-focused program provides more insight into the fundamentals and techniques of cheer tumbling and cheer stunting vs. the standard tumbling and stunting practiced in gymnastics.

Junior Pickleball Clinic (Ages 9 - 18)

Designed for younger players of all skill levels, sessions are designed to keep kids engaged and having a blast while they develop their pickleball skills and strategies, including serves, volleys, dinking and footwork. There is also focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, game etiquette and the importance of a positive attitude. Bonus: registration fee includes a paddle and pickleballs that players can keep after the clinic ends!

Learn to Sail Lessons (Ages 12+)

Set sail this summer with Oak Hollow Sailing Camp! This "open-air classroom" experience is open to rising sixth graders and up, and adults are welcome, too. In just one week, you'll gain the basic skills needed to sail confidently on your own. Two course levels are available: Beginner, for those new to sailing, and Intermediate, for those with some prior sailing experience. Classes are taught by members of the Oak Hollow Sailing Club, and life jackets will be provided. The class will meet each day at Sailboat Point.

Better Money Habits: Managing Your Money (Ages 16+)

Do you want to learn more about managing your personal finances or investing earnings safely and securely? Outdoor Adventure & Nature Education

Youth Fishing Derby (Ages 1 - 15)

This free program incorporates fun, hands-on activities that teach youth up to age 15 about fishing skills. After training, youth can participate in a fishing tournament to hone their newly-learned skills! T-shirts are provided for the first 80 kids. Sign-in begins at 7:30 a.m.; event kicks off at 8 a.m.

Nature Navigators: Flower Power (Ages 2 - 6)

It's said that "April showers bring May flowers!" This handson program teaches our youngest naturalists about flowers, their various parts, their important role in the ecosystem and why pollinators depend on them. We will also have story time and a walk on the trails as we appreciate the beauty and function of the flower. Please note that parents must stay with children throughout the program.

Nature Navigators: Creepy Crawlers (Ages 2 - 6)

Spend the morning outdoors flipping logs and getting dirty as we look for some of the common "creepy crawlers" that play such an important role in our ecosystem! We will collect various insects to observe as we learn more about them. After we set our new friends free, we will create an insect "fact craft" to document and remember all we learned. Please note that parents must stay with children throughout the program.

Nature Navigators: Snakes and Stories (Ages 2 - 6)

Snakes and Stories will help introduce our young naturalists to these fascinating reptiles in a fun, hands-on way! Participants will also create a snake "fact craft" before heading out on the trails for a fun discovery hike. Please note that parents must stay with children throughout the program.

Ever wonder how a rainbow often appears after it rains?

Outdoor Adventure & Nature Education

EcoEvenings (Ages 12+)

Natural life begins to change as the sun sets. Diurnal animals that are active during the day head off to rest, while crepuscular (twilight) and then nocturnal (night) animals begin to stir. EcoEvenings is designed to give participants a look into what happens as the shifts change from diurnal to nocturnal in the natural outdoor spaces of the Piedmont. Each week we will dive into more depth on a specific subject while observing the changes as the summer months pass. Participants should be prepared to spend time on the trails throughout the program. Please note that children must have an adult registered with them and accompany them at all times. Flashlights will be provided.

Sunrise Ramble (Ages 12+)

This discovery hike will take you on an invigorating "sunrise ramble" along the Lakeshore Trail and parts of the Greenway to watch as the world wakes up around you. From birds to deer and insects to flowers, we will see how the activity levels change as the new day begins and the morning passes. Please note that children must have an adult registered to accompany them and that all participants should dress in clothing and shoes appropriate for time on the trails in warmer weather. A water bottle is also recommended.

Annual Wildflower Sale (All Ages)

Beautify your home garden, provide a food source to pollinators and support PEC's environmental education efforts when you participate in our annual wildflower sale! This year we are celebrating PEC's 50th Wildflower Sale by growing over 50 different species of North Carolina native wildflowers! Purple Coneflower, Milkweed and Blackeyed Susan are just a few of the many seedlings that will be available for $0.75 each. Friends of PEC members are welcome to purchase early on Friday, May 9, from 1 - 5 p.m.

National Trails Day Celebration (All Ages)

Natural beauty and open space, exploration and discovery, solitude and reflection, exercise and other health benefitsall these are the gifts and opportunities of having a variety of trails in our community, and they make our lives richer. PEC naturalists will lead guided hikes in honor of National Trails Day beginning at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., so grab your hiking shoes and join us! Live animals will be on display, and other educational organizations will be present with displays and information, too.

We will gather at Becky's and Mary's, one of High Point's oldest black-owned restaurants, located within a historic black community, to discuss Juneteenth's historical significance as well as 100+ years of High Point's African American history.
