CITY OF HIGH POINT AWARDS FUNDS SUPPORTING RENTAL AND UTILITY ASSISTANCE
The City of High Point is pleased to announce that funds have been awarded to Helping Hands High Point and West End Ministries to assist eligible High Point residents with rental and utility expenses. The funding will provide critical financial assistance to individuals and families experiencing housing and utility hardships who meet the eligibility requirements established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Through this partnership, Helping Hands High Point and West End Ministries will connect eligible residents with resources to address past-due rent and utility expenses, helping families maintain stable housing and essential utility services. The City of High Point is grateful to partner with Helping Hands High Point and West End Ministries to make these resources available to residents who are facing financial challenges. 4

HIGH POINT 101 KICKS OFF WITH INSIDE LOOK AT CITY GOVERNMENT
High Point 101 officially kicked off Thursday, Aug. 20, welcoming the 2026 cohort for the first session of the 13-week program designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at how their city works. The evening began with dinner and an opportunity for participants to connect with fellow classmates and members of the City team. Remarks from Deputy City Manager Greg Ferguson helped set the stage for the experience ahead. Rase McCray then introduced the city government, providing participants with a foundation for understanding how municipal government operates and serves the High Point community.

The first session continued with an overview of Community Development & Housing, presented by Thanena Wilson, director. Participants learned more about the department’s role and how its work contributes to the growth, development, and quality of life of High Point. High Point 101 is more than a class. It’s an opportunity for residents to connect with their city and become more informed, engaged community members.

CELEBRATING NATIONAL HEALTH CENTER WEEK 2026 WITH TAPM DENTAL
In recognition of National Health Center Week 2026, City Manager Tasha Logan Ford stopped by Triad Adult & Pediatric Medicine (TAPM) to celebrate the one-year anniversary of TAPM Dental and the expansion of its services to include adult dental care in the Guilford County region. Since opening its doors, TAPM Dental has expanded access to quality, comprehensive oral health services for patients of all ages. The addition of adult dental care represents another step in TAPM’s commitment to providing whole-person health care and meeting the evolving needs of the community. “Our mission has always been to remove barriers to healthcare, and that includes dental care,” said Michelle Lewis, CEO of TAPM. “With TAPM Dental, we’re ensuring that families have access to high-quality pediatric dental services close to home, because oral health is an essential part of overall health.” Here’s to one year of TAPM Dental and a growing commitment to healthier smiles and healthier communities! MAYOR'S CORNER: HIGH POINT’S MISS TARHEEL STATE RECOGNIZED AS CITY AMBASSADOR
High Point celebrated a rising young leader during the Aug. 3 City Council Meeting, recognizing Madaline “Maddy” Richardson, the 2026 Universal Miss Preteen, for her accomplishments and service as an Ambassador of the City of High Point. Richardson was honored for representing High Point with pride and serving as a positive example for young people throughout the community. Her recognition highlights the importance of celebrating High Point’s youth accomplishments and encouraging the next generation of leaders to make a difference in their community. As a 2026 Universal Preteen representing the Tarheel State, Richardson has an opportunity to use her platform to inspire others, promote positive values and represent her hometown across North Carolina. The City of High Point is proud to recognize Richardson and celebrate her achievements. Congratulations, Madaline, on this well-deserved honor and for representing High Point with grace, confidence and community spirit! 9
RANDY MCCASLIN HONORED WITH PUBLIC POWER LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD The City of High Point proudly celebrates Randy McCaslin, a longtime municipal leader and former High Point Deputy City Manager and Chief Operating Officer, on receiving the Public Power Lifetime Achievement Award. A High Point native and third-generation City employee, McCaslin dedicated more than 42 years to municipal management in North Carolina, including 15 years serving the High Point public power community. During his tenure with the City, he oversaw electric operations and played a key role in advancing projects and initiatives that strengthened High Point Energy and improved service to the community. McCaslin’s commitment to public power extended beyond High Point. From 2019 to 2024, he served on the ElectriCities Board of Directors, holding positions as secretary, vice chair and chair while also providing leadership on numerous committees. He also served on the Agency 1 Board of Commissioners and Rate Committee. For McCaslin, public service is deeply personal. His grandfather served 30 years in the City’s Fire Department, while his father, Billy McCaslin, served as Superintendent of the Electric Department. Today, one of the City’s substations bears his father’s name — a lasting reminder of the McCaslin family’s legacy of service to High Point. Congratulations to Randy McCaslin on this well-deserved recognition and for his more than four decades of dedicated service to North Carolina communities and the City of High Point! 10
EVENT UPDATES NC STATE ARCHIVES PRESENTATION “DOCUMENTING THE WORLD OF OUTLANDER” JULY 25
We were pleased to welcome archivists Josh Hager and Alison Thurman on Saturday, July 25, to offer the presentation, "Documenting the World of Outlander," that explores colonial NC records connected to the Outlander TV series and books. This presentation was based on the blog of the same name that they hosted for almost 10 years. EVENT UPDATES HIGH POINT PUBLIC LIBRARY NOW PROVIDES BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORING EQUIPMENT
The American Heart Association of Guilford County is partnering with the High Point Public Library to provide blood pressure monitoring equipment for the public to use. The blood pressure monitoring kiosk was unveiled on Monday, July 27, at 10 a.m. on the second floor of the High Point Public Library. It will be available during library hours. There will be a kiosk with a tabletop blood pressure monitor in the library that customers can use to take their blood pressure, document their daily blood pressure rate, and report that information to their physicians. There will also be blood pressure cuff kits that library customers can borrow to monitor their blood pressure at home for a few weeks, record their daily readings, and take that information to their doctors. More information about the checkout process for the kits is forthcoming.

The High Point Public Library presented its Annual Health Fair on Tuesday, August 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event included blood pressure and blood glucose checks, foot and chair massages, opportunities to engage in physical activities, health-related resources and a food bag giveaway. Thanks to all our community partners who participated in this important event. 13
