VOLUNTEERS ASSIST CEMETERY DIVISION WITH PRESERVATION PROJECT
The Lt. F.C. Frazier Camp 668 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans has volunteered with the City of High Point Cemetery Division, providing preservation services for the Oakwood Cemetery. To date, volunteers have aligned and straightened thirty of the fifty gravestones of those soldiers who died at the Wayside Hospital in High Point following the Battle of Bentonville.
Their goal is to complete aligning and straightening, followed by cleaning the gravestones by the 2023 Confederate Memorial Day Observance in May this year.
The purpose of the project is to honor the fifty soldiers from several southern states who died in High Point, with many of their families not knowing what happened to them when they didn't return home.
The service project has greatly improved the cemetery grounds and the aesthetics of the entire area, and the cemetery division is grateful for the countless hours of work that volunteers have dedicated to preserving our historic cemetery.
