Parent-Child Golf Championship (All ages)
The 35th edition of our Parent-Child Golf Championship is back, and we are introducing several new divisions of play! Participation will be limited to the first 36 teams to sign up. Practice balls will be available free of charge starting at 4:45 p.m. Participants will enjoy pizza before the competition begins with a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m. Both a captain’s choice (catfight) and a modified alternating shot format (after both have driven from each tee and selected the ball to be played) will be featured. The tournament will be scored on the Callaway system, with awards going to the top net and gross winners in each of the three divisions. Beavers: Ecosystem Engineers (Ages 6+)
On Earth Day, we will gather to celebrate an ecosystem engineer - the beaver! Throughout last year the beavers who live nearby constructed a dam that is a sight to see. We will take a short hike to view the dam and hopefully even see one of these large rodent engineers! Back on the South Preserve, we will hike to a different structure, the beaver lodge. Information about this fascinating animal's biology and natural history will be discussed. As the sky darkens, there will be other nocturnal sights and sounds, so bring your flashlight! Launch and Lunch - Family Canoe Experience (Ages 5+)
Learn more about High Point City Lake from the seat of a canoe during this unique experience! Following a dryland training lesson, we will launch canoes and embark on a two-hour tour of the Arnold J. Koonce, Jr. City Lake to look for wildlife and learn about the rich history of the lake and shoreline. We will take a break for a picnic lunch in a quiet cove at the far end of the lake. Participants must pre-register for this experience by calling the Piedmont Environmental Center at 336.883.8531. National Trails Day Celebration (All ages)
Natural beauty and open space, exploration and discovery, solitude and reflection, exercise and other health benefits clearly make our lives richer. These are the gifts and opportunities of having a variety of trails in our community. Grab your hiking shoes and help us celebrate National Trails Day! Guided hikes will be limited to nine participants each and are scheduled at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Please call 336.883.8531 for more information. Easter Eggstravaganza (All ages)
The tradition returns! High Point Parks & Recreation's annual Easter Egg Hunt is designed for youth ages 2 - 13 and our ASPIRE friends, but the fun and festivities are open to all youth. Egg hunts begin at 5 p.m. and will be held rain or shine. Prizes given for lucky golden eggs found in each hunt. Please be sure to bring a basket or bag for each child participating. Sidewalk Chalk & Craft Show (All ages)
Spend the day watching artists chalk the pavement, participating in kids’ outdoor field activities, shopping items offered by local vendors and enjoying food offered for purchase by local food trucks. You will have a chance to create a chalk art masterpiece of your own, too! Chalk will be provided; you are welcome to bring other supplies with you, such as brushes, kneeling pad, towel, eraser, sponge or additional chalk. Quarterly Big Fish Tournament
Try and catch the biggest fish in the lake! We'll keep a display board keeping track of the weights in the marina; prizes are awarded each quarter for the biggest catfish, crappie and bass. Grand prizes will be awarded at the end of the year! Registration is required before catching the fish. Participants can register once for the whole year at any time. Southside Parking Lot Sale (All ages)
Do you have clothing, toys, jewelry, accessories, or small appliances and household items you would like to sell? Our upcoming parking lot sale is the place to do it! We will even provide a table and chair with your paid registration. (Please note that you will be asked to list your items for sale when registering.) Event is rain or shine. Hope to see you there! Calling all gamers! We have teamed up with L.E.A.P. to bring you a recreational online gaming experience. Download the Mission Control app, and select us as your league. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, join leagues with friends across the city or state and compete in your favorite online games to be crowned High Point's Esports Champion!
