We’re putting more resources into public safety, moving forward with a new police and fire station in Hialeah Heights, improving our parks and working on better transportation throughout the City.

Police Officers AUMENTO SALARIAL HISTÓRICO PARA POLICIAS DE HIALEAH NEW AGREEMENT DELIVERS THE LARGEST PAY INCREASE IN HPD HISTORY AND MARKS A MAJOR INVESTMENT IN PUBLIC SAFETY The City of Hialeah and Hialeah FOP Lodge 12 reached a new contract focused on strengthening the department and investing in the officers who protect Hialeah every day. The agreement will help attract new off icers, keep experienced officers on the force and build a stronger department for the future.

DEPARTMENT LEADERS REPORTED ON PROGRESS ACROSS PUBLIC SAFETY, PARKS, TRANSPORTATION AND CITY SERVICES. Mayor Bryan Calvo held Hialeah’s latest public Cabinet Meeting with department directors, giving residents a look at what’s happening across the City and what’s coming next. Updates included new police vehicles and motorcycles, additional firefighters, major investments in parks, transit improvements and new grant funding for transportation and safety projects.

Hialeah Police is adding 30 new marked patrol cars, and 12 new motorcycles to help address traffic and speeding. The Fire Department is adding 35 new firefighters by the end of the year.

MORE GRANT DOLLARS The City created a new Grants Division focused on bringing in outside funding for City projects. That work already includes a $1.2 million Safe Streets for All grant and $60,000 for a Safe Routes to Parks project.

MORE SMART WATER METERS ARE BEING INSTALLED IN HOMES ACROSS HIALEAH. The City is expanding its Smart Water Meter Pilot Program to test new technology that can improve water service and billing accuracy. The new meters provide more accurate information on water use, can help detect possible leaks sooner and give residents a clearer picture of how much water they are using.

Building Permits ARE GOING DIGITAL LOS PERMISOS DE CONSTRUCCIÓN SE VUELVEN DIGITALES HIALEAH BEGINS ACCEPTING DIGITAL PLANS FOR SEVERAL PROJECTS STARTING SEPTEMBER 8. Hialeah is taking another step toward making the permitting process easier for residents and contractors. Starting September 8, the City will begin accepting digital plan submissions for several common residential and smaller projects through a new electronic plan review system. The launch is the first phase of a larger effort to modernize the Building Division and move more of the permitting process online.

Hialeah hosted its second Small Business Mixer at El Sartén Restaurant and Lounge, bringing local business owners together with Mayor Bryan Calvo, City leaders and fellow entrepreneurs. Business owners had a chance to make new connections; talk about the challenges they face and learn more about City programs and services available to them.

HIALEAH WELCOMED STUDENTS BACK WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES, FAMILY ACTIVITIES AND A FOCUS ON SUPPORTING OUR LOCAL SCHOOLS More than 1,000 people joined us for Hialeah’s Back to School Bash and National Night Out. Students picked up free backpacks and school supplies while families enjoyed an evening of activities and community resources before heading back to the classroom. Mayor Bryan Calvo also met with Hialeah public school principals, School Board members and new Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Rafael A. Villalobos. It was a chance to talk about what our schools need and ways the City can support Hialeah students.

Swim Programs ARE BACK

Hialeah swim programs are returning to the pool as the City works with community partners to provide temporary locations for practices. Practices have resumed in Hialeah Gardens, with Miami Dade College’s North Campus expected to follow soon. The City is also working with Miami Springs and Palm Springs North on additional locations. These partnerships will keep Hialeah swimmers practicing while the City works to reopen its water parks.

Mayor Bryan Calvo hosted Hialeah’s third Town Hall, continuing a series of meetings that bring City government directly to residents. Residents asked questions, shared neighborhood concerns and heard updates from the Mayor. City staff was also available to help with services and specific issues. The next Town Hall is Monday, October 26 at 6:00 p.m. in the Recreation Room at O’Quinn Park, 6051 W 2nd Avenue. Bring your questions, share your concerns and hear the latest from the Mayor and City staff.
