Mayor's Message May 2026

Page 1

THE FOCUS OF MY FIRST 100 DAYS IN OFFICE HAS BEEN ON STAYING VISIBLE, RESPONSIVE, AND TAKING ACTION ON THE ISSUES THAT MATTER MOST TO RESIDENTS.

One of the first actions we took was to protect taxpayer dollars. Unnecessary and costly pensions for elected officials were eliminated. That set the standard from day one.

While others debated, Hialeah moved decisively with real property tax relief for more than 6,500 seniors without raising taxes or affecting services. It delivered immediate relief where it was needed most.

Across Hialeah, improvements are underway. Streets are being repaved, potholes repaired, drainage systems strengthened, fire hydrants brought up to full working condition, and new LED streetlights installed to improve visibility and safety in our neighborhoods.

The first 100 days set the tone. The work continues, with a clear focus on delivering results for Hialeah residents.

UPDATING Water Meters

PILOT PROGRAM UNDERWAY

The City of Hialeah has launched a six-month pilot program to test new water meter technology designed to improve accuracy and consistency. The program will be evaluated in real conditions before any decision is made on expanding it citywide.

For some residents, billing has relied on estimated readings. The new meters are expected to provide more accurate date, catch issues earlier, and reduce billing discrepancies. Mayor Bryan Calvo said:

Residents should be paying for the water theyactuallyuse, notanestimate.Thisisabout accuracy and making sure the system is fair”

COMMUNITY SHOWS UP FOR Earth Day

DIA DE LA TIERRA: LA COMUNIDAD RESPONDE

RESIDENTS TURN OUT AND GET TO WORK

Hialeah residents showed up in a big way for our Earth Day event. More than 100 volunteers joined the City’s community cleanup, working side by side to clear the canal embankment along West 44th Street and remove over 1,000 pounds of trash.

Everything from discarded shopping carts and bottles to a couch was removed, helping protect Biscayne Bay.

It’s a strong reminder of the impact of showing up. The City will continue creating opportunities like this to bring residents together and show their Hialeah pride.
