HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TOUR WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

This week, students from Healdsburg High School participated in a tour of the City’s Water Reclamation Facility and Floating Solar Project. The tour was lead by Utilities Engineering Manager Patrick Fuss and Water and Wastewater Operations Superintendent Rob Scates. The tour included high school students interested in engineering and agriculture.

Staff walked students through the treatment process, explained how the City’s treats collected sewage to produce high quality recycled water for agricultural and urban irrigation.

Staff also discussed the floating solar project and its multiple benefits of reducing algae growth while also providing renewable energy for the City’s electric customers. Pictured is Patrick Fuss explaining the wastewater treatment process.

CALIFORNIA ARREARAGE PAYMENT PROGRAM (CAPP) FUNDING UPDATE

The City of Healdsburg recently received another round of CAPP funding from the State that was applied to eligible customers Water and Sewer Utility accounts. This round of funding applied $49,992 to residential water and sewer accounts with past due balances for services provided from 6/16/21 –12/31/22. A bill insert will be included with the upcoming utility bills for all customers who received the funds.

This is the second round of water and sewer CAPP funding received. The City previously received one round each of water and sewer funding and two rounds of electric funding. A total of $488,222 was applied to customers utility accounts from all rounds of funding.

The City works directly with the State to receive CAPP funds, and then applies the funding directly to the customers’ accounts with no customer involvement.

UTILITY BILLING ASSISTANCE

Did you know the City of Healdsburg offers low-income rates for qualifying low-income customers through the CARE Program. Healdsburg’s program offers a discount on the monthly electric bill for eligible households. The Electric discount is a 25% discount on the monthly customer charge and the first two (2) energy tiers of electric charges Healdsburg also offers a discount of 15% on water and 20% on sewer and stormwater charges.

Customers who meet income requirements for the City CARE Program should also apply for the States Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Low-Income Home Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP).

MARIE SPARKS MEMORIAL VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS

Marie Sparks was a woman who embodied the generous and unselfish spirit of volunteerism in Healdsburg. Upon her death in 1995, the Healdsburg City Council wished to remember Marie’s giving and unselfish spirit with the Annual Marie Sparks Memorial Volunteer Award.

The City of Healdsburg is actively seeking nominations for the 2023 Marie Sparks Volunteer of the Year Award.

Nominees need to volunteer their time in Healdsburg and reside within the Healdsburg 95448 zip code.
