STAYCOOL THISWEEKEND

Unfortunately a mechanical failure at the Healdsburg Swim Center has temporarily closed the pool, however Healdsburg Unified School District and Community Services staff are working hard to have pool repairs completed as quickly as possible

For status updates, please call the Swim Center hotline at (707) 431-3613 or visit the Community Services' Facebook page.

Fortunately we live in Healdsburg and we can embrace this "cool" challenge by exploring all the great ways to beat the heat this weekend, right here in town!

Start your day early by hiking The Healdsburg Ridge and Fitch Mountain Open Space Preserves. Trails have a mix of sun and shade, and a hike takes about 12 hours. Click here to learn more.

Explore new opportunities in the City parks, like finding the not-so-secret water play features at Barbieri and Giorgi Parks!

Skating more your style?

Don’t forget about the Carson Werner Memorial Skate Park, which is another great option for early morning or evening when it cools down. Skate Park details can be found here.

If you’re an early riser, head over to the Healdsburg Farmer’s Market downtown at North Street and Vine Street starting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, where you can find everything from farm fresh eggs and pasture-finished meat to flowers to handmade art! Click here for details

BEAT THE HEAT!

Even though the pool is closed there are close-to-home swimming options:

Veteran’s Memorial Beach offers access to the beautiful Russian River right here in town! The summer dam has been installed and lifeguards are now on duty daily from 11am-7pm This beach area features accessible parking, restrooms, an outdoor shower, and picnic sites. The fee for parking is $7. Learn more here.

Remember to stay hydrated, apply sunscreen, and be mindful of your surroundings as you embark on your weekend adventures.

We hope you have a fantastic time and make the most of this warm weekend.

TIPS TO STAY COOL AT HOME THIS WEEKEND:

Close window coverings during the day to block the sun from heating up your home

Postpone using appliances like the oven, dishwasher, clothes washer, and dryer until cooler times of the day to avoid heating up your home

Make sure your ceiling fan is adjusted to run counterclockwise to push cool air down

HOUSING ELEMENT UPDATE

We are pleased to announce that the City of Healdsburg's Housing Element has been approved by the State of California Housing and Community Development Department on June 29, 2023. This important milestone follows the City Council's adoption of the Housing Element in May.

The Housing Element serves as a fundamental plan that addresses housing affordability and availability in our city. It outlines strategies and policies to meet the diverse housing needs of our community, including affordable and workforce housing, as well as housing for vulnerable populations.

By adopting the Housing Element, Healdsburg ensures compliance with state housing laws and regulations, making us eligible for funding and resources to support housing development initiatives.

To access the Housing Element, please click here.

We extend our gratitude to the members of the Housing Element Work Group and all those who contributed to the development of this vital document. This is an important step towards a more inclusive and sustainable housing landscape in Healdsburg.

RAINWATER HARVESTING TOUR

In honor of Zero Waste Week, join us on Saturday, July 29 from 10:00 a m to 12:30 p m as we partner with Daily Acts and Sonoma Water to show you how you can turn your yard into a drought-resilient landscape.

During this program, we will tour two different homes that include rainwater catchment and laundry-to-landscape graywater systems.

Our hosts will highlight system components, and design considerations as well as rebates you can take advantage of

When you attend this event you will also be entered to win a free leaf eater, a great tool to help you reduce the amount of debris that enters your rain tank.
