AND PEDESTRIAN UPGRADES PROJECT

We're excited to share that the March Avenue Reconstruction and Pedestrian Upgrades Project is moving forward! This important project will improve roadway conditions and enhance safety for everyone traveling along March Avenue between Healdsburg Avenue to University Street.

City staff will be hosting a community meeting to connect with residents and share details about the upcoming March Avenue project. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the planned improvements, ask questions, and provide your input. We encourage you to be part of the conversation as we move forward with this change.

LEADING PEDESTRIAN INTERVAL signal timing

Starting Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the City of Healdsburg Public Works Department will implement what's called Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI) signal timing as a pilot program for crosswalks at two traffic signals in downtown Healdsburg:

Matheson St & Healdsburg Ave North St & Healdsburg Ave

LPI gives pedestrians the opportunity to enter an intersection 3 to 7 seconds before vehicles are given a green indication. With this head start, pedestrians can better establish their presence in a crosswalk before vehicles have a green light.

LPI provides the benefits of increased visibility of crossing pedestrians, reduced conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles, and increased likelihood of motorists yielding to pedestrians. LPI was implemented at the intersection of Front Street/Kennedy Lane at Healdsburg Avenue in October of 2024.

City staff will monitor effects of the LPI timing and operations at these traffic signals. If you have questions or comments about this, please contact the Public Works Department at (707) 431-3346.

HEALDSBURG SCHOOLS

PARTICIPATE

IN

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL WALK AUDITS

From April 14th to 18th, the City of Healdsburg partnered with the Sonoma County Transportation Authority (SCTA) to conduct Safe Routes to School (SRTS) site assessments at six local campuses: Healdsburg Elementary (HES and Fitch Mountain campuses), Healdsburg Junior High, Healdsburg High, Saint John the Baptist Catholic School, and The Healdsburg School. These walk audits brought together City staff, SCTA representatives, traffic engineers, school administrators, teachers, parents, students, and local residents to identify barriers and opportunities for walking and biking to and from school. Each assessment included a neighborhood walkthrough followed by a mapping workshop to document safety concerns and ideas for improvement. The input gathered during these assessments will help shape each school’s SRTS Plan, which will include infrastructure recommendations such as enhanced crosswalks, traffic calming measures, and sidewalk improvements—as well as safety education and encouragement strategies to support active transportation.

WEED ABATEMENT UPDATES

Spring has arrived in full force, and with the recent late-season rains, grasses across Healdsburg are growing fast— and tall.

The City of Healdsburg Fire Department will begin conducting our annual weed abatement inspections in the coming weeks. It's critical for property owners to be aware that this year may require multiple grass cuttings due to the abundant growth.

Even though we've had recent rain, grasses are already beginning to brown, and that dry vegetation can quickly become a serious fire hazard as temperatures rise.

This is an ideal time to trim grasses and manage vegetation to help reduce fire risk safely and effectively.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep Healdsburg fire safe!
