City of Green Urges Residents to Re-Enroll in Emergency Text Alert System

The City of Green and Green Fire have transitioned to a new emergency text alert platform and are asking all residents and those who work in Green to enroll in the new system.

Even if you have received emergency text messages from the City in the past, you should assume you are not currently enrolled and complete the registration process to ensure you continue receiving alerts.

The Green Alert system, provided through Regroup, delivers emergency alerts and other urgent notifications via text, phone call, or email. Green Fire frequently sends geographically

targeted alerts for street closures, localized emergencies, and other timesensitive situations. Including a home and/or work address during registration ensures accurate, location-based notifications.

“We are asking you to take a moment to enroll or update your information so we can reach you quickly in an emergency,” said Fire Chief Jeff Funai. “Accurate contact information allows us to deliver critical updates when they matter most.”

The City moved to the new platform following a cyber-attack on its previous provider that caused a service interruption.

• Go to cityofgreen.org/Alerts or scan the QR code

• Text JoinGreenOH to 58339

1. Preferred method: Go to cityofgreen. org/Alerts or scan the QR code.

2. Text JoinGreenOH to 58339. This method captures your phone number, but not your address. To link your number to your home or work address for geographic alerts, please use the link or QR code above.

If you need assistance call Green Fire Dispatch at their non-emergency number (330) 896-6610.

Rocco Yeargin, Mayor mayor@cityofgreen.org (330) 896-6602

You matter, and your community cares deeply about you.

Last year, our community experienced an increase in suicides, which unfortunately follows a countywide trend. That reality weighs heavily on all of us. It underscores, more than ever, the importance of connection, community, and simple acts of kindness. It also reminds us that we must continue to grow in our awareness and understanding of mental health issues while fostering mental wellness.

In 2025, through a OneOhio Recovery Foundation grant, the Green Fire Division hired a part-time social worker, Lelia Haley, to work alongside our fire medics in responding to calls involving mental health crises. Her arrival could not have come at a more critical time. Over the past year, Lelia conducted 121 follow-up visits, helping families and patients navigate the often complicated path to mental health services. She also reached out to families who lost a loved one to suicide, offering support and compassion in the midst of unimaginable grief.

In recent years, the Green Drug Task Force has expanded its mission to include education and awareness around mental health, working to reduce stigma and open doors to honest conversation.

On Wednesday, March 11 at 10 am, we are hosting QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training. This free, 90-minute session is open to those 18 and older and teaches participants how to recognize the signs of a mental health crisis and assist someone who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts. Space is limited. To register, please call (330) 896-5500.

On Sunday, March 15, many of our local churches are sharing a unified message of Hope & Healing offering encouragement along with literature and resources for those battling addiction or struggling with mental health challenges.

In April and May, we are hosting a free, six-week Music and Wellness series to reduce stress and support wellbeing. See page 13 for details.

Then in May, during Mental Health Awareness Month, the Drug Task Force is hosting its third annual A Change of Art—a day dedicated to mental wellness and creative expression. See page 16 for details. Stop by the resource tables, enjoy live music, free food, and take part in a community art project. No artistic talent is required and all ages are welcome.

If you or someone in your family is struggling, please know this: you are not alone. Help is available. You can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. It is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day for anyone who needs to speak with someone immediately. 988 is not just for those with suicidal ideations, it is a number you can call to talk to a qualified professional about whatever mental challenge you are going through.

Green has always been a community that shows up for one another. Let’s continue to look out for our neighbors, to speak openly, and to remind one another through our words and our actions that you matter.

The filing deadline is April 15, 2026. The City of Green offers residents three convenient options for filing 2025 municipal income tax returns:

Tax forms are available for download at cityofgreen.org/Tax or may be picked up at the following locations during regular business hours:

Green Branch Library, 4046 Massillon Road

Request that your forms are mailed by calling (330) 896-6622 or emailing taxsecure@cityofgreen.org

2. File Online

Residents may securely file their taxes online at cityofgreen.org/Tax

3. File In Person

The Central Administration Building, 1755 Town Park Blvd, is open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. A 24/7 secure drop box is also available outside the building.

For additional information and frequently asked questions, visit cityofgreen.org/Tax, email taxsecure@cityofgreen.org, or call (330) 896-6622.

Arlington Road Corridor Improvement

In Summer 2026, construction will begin on the two-year Arlington Road Corridor Improvement project. Arlington Road will be widened from just south of SR619 to south of Boettler Road. Once construction is complete, there will be two lanes in each direction with a center median and roundabouts

New Street Tree Pilot Program Open to Residents

The City of Green is offering a new Street Tree Pilot program to residents. The program makes it easy for residents in Green to have a tree planted in the right-of-way of their lawns. Homeowners must apply by Tuesday, March 31 to qualify for a Spring tree planting. The City Urban Forester will review the site and approve resident applications. Once approved, the Urban Forester chooses appropriate tree stock from local wholesale nurseries. The City then installs the trees through City qualified forestry staff or a reputable company.

Any homeowner can make use of the turn-key tree planting program on a first come, first serve basis, limited to 30 trees. The cost of acquiring trees and their subsequent planting is shared between the homeowners and the City. Homeowners are required to pay a $250 program fee. The City covers the remaining expenses, including tree purchase, tree installation, and first year critical care plan package. Learn more and apply at cityofgreen.org/PermitsLicenses

at Southwood and Boettler Roads. There will also be a multipurpose path on the east side of Arlington Road and a sidewalk on the west. Federal grants fund 80% of this $17 million project. This is the last major corridor improvement project the City of Green has planned for some time.

City Council Set to Vote on NOPEC

Electric Aggregation

The City of Green is recommending NOPEC as the provider for our electric aggregation program starting June 2026. The legislation to make this change is set to be voted on by City Council on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Once approved, pricing, effective June 2026, and other details, can be found at cityofgreen.org/Electric

The City of Green is a governmental aggregator, certified by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). As an aggregator, the City may negotiate and purchase electricity or natural gas on behalf of its residents. There are two types of aggregation: opt-in and opt-out. Green operates under an optout program for both electric and gas aggregation. This means that residents are automatically enrolled in the program unless they choose to opt-out. Unless residents wish to opt-out, no additional action needs to be taken.

2025 Annual Report Our Story

Each year adds a new chapter to Green’s story. This past year was defined by careful stewardship, meaningful investment, and a continued focus on people—how we serve them, protect them, and create a community they are proud to call home.

Community Identity

Strong stewardship. Long-term stability.

Sound financial management remains the foundation of everything we do. In 2025, Green continued to balance progress with prudence.

• New Finance Director Shelley Goodrich, a CPA and attorney, brings deep government finance expertise to City Hall

Claiming our name. Telling our story.

Green’s identity is more than geography—it’s a shared sense of place, pride, and belonging. This past year marked meaningful progress in how we are recognized, both locally and nationally.

Named one of Ohio Magazine’s Best Hometowns. This recognition reflects what residents already know: Green is a place with strong schools, exceptional parks, growing businesses, and a quality of life that stands out across the state

Progress toward a unified Green zip code:

• A bill, passed in the US House of Representatives in July, now resides in the US Senate Committee of Homeland Security and Government Affairs. If passed, Green and dozens of other cities in the US will be designated a single zip code. Residents and business leaders are asked to send a letter to our US Senators in support of the bill at cityofgreen.org/Zip

• “Green, OH” now officially recognized. As of September, all residents and businesses may now officially use Green, OH as their city name with their current zip code—a meaningful milestone worth celebrating

• Maintained strong reserves while funding essential services and capital projects

• Leveraged grants and partnerships to maximize tax dollars

• Focused on long-term planning to protect Green’s fiscal health for future generations

Fire & Public Safety

Leading with courage, care, and innovation.

Our Fire Division and public safety partners responded to growing needs with compassion and forward-thinking solutions.

• Added a licensed social worker to support residents during mental health crises

• Added a new Heavy Rescue Fire Truck to the Green Fire fleet, 80% paid for by a federal grant

• Continued success of Community Paramedics, GO Team, and outreach services

• Strengthened partnership with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and improved service by relocating the deputies’ primary workspace to the Central Administration Building

5,400 emergency calls

Engineering

Building connections, not just roads.

While major construction was limited in 2025, the path is set for transformative projects ahead.

Final planning completed for the $17 million Arlington Road widening project; Federal grants secured to fund 80% of the project cost

Constructed Southwood Drive and added a roundabout at Golden Wood Way

Parks & Recreation

Our parks are more than places— they are where community happens.

Parks and recreation continue to be defining features of Green and 2025 marked a major milestone.

, the largest city facility investment

Kleckner Adaptive Sports Field, paid for by grants, donations, and a partnership with the Cal Ripken

Service & Community Support Showing up for one another.

• Volunteers and nonprofits stepped up during times of need, including food insecurity challenges in November 2025 when SNAP benefits were paused

• The Green Community Fund awarded $15,000 in grants to local community organizations

• Continued strong partnerships with Green Local Schools nonprofits, and regional partners

• The Green Great Eight Race series raised more than $250,000 for local organizations
