SUMMERINTERNSHIPPROGRAM
The City of Fort Bragg has welcomed seven interns as part of the Leading the Next Wave of Leaders Summer Internship Program, and they’re already doing great work across several City departments during these busy summer months. This program is coordinated by our Public Experience Liaison, Adelaide La Torre, who has been guiding the interns as they learn contribute and explore careers in public service
This interns or teenagers, b government. Interns are currently gaining hands‑on experience in departments such as Finance, Planning & Community Development, Public Works, Engineering, and the City Manager’s Office, each paired with a dedicated mentor and working on meaningful projects that support daily City operations.
The second phase launches this fall: the Youth Council and Youth Impact Fund (Civic Engagement and Leadership Component). This next step will offer a collaborative, community-driven model that blends student leadership with broad youth participation. The goal is to give young people both a voice in local government and real responsibility in decision making, empowering them to help shape the future of Fort Bragg.
We’re proud of our interns, grateful for the energy and fresh ideas they bring, and excited to continue expanding opportunities for local youth. It’s going to be a great summer and an even more exciting year ahead!
Downtown Fort Bragg has a new creative spark thanks to 21 year old Lillie Fochs, who opened North Coast Clothing Company this spring at 144 East Laurel Street. Her designer gift shop features Fort Bragg inspired goods and apparel, all created with love for the coastline. From embroidered poppies to whales and waves, her artwork captures the town’s unique coastal vibe
This shop marks Lillie’s first brick and mortar business, a dream she has had her entire life. Entrepreneurship is truly in her DNA, as she grew up surrounded by it. Her mom and stepdad, Tonda and David Miller, run The Outdoor Store, where she first began selling her designs, and her dad is a fellow entrepreneur. Lillie says watching the passion and work ethic of her family members inspired her to make her dream a reality
Lillie loves the designing process, but her favorite part of her job is connecting with visitors and locals alike, becoming inspired by what they love about Fort Bragg, and adjusting her inventory to match. She prints all her apparel locally through Good Morning Graphics & Bus. Services and Epic Graphics, keeping her business deeply rooted in our community. Her advice for other young entrepreneurs in Fort Bragg is to build relationships with your fellow business owners Having a strong local support system has made all the difference in her journey.

The Summer Kickoff and First Friday Entertainment Zone on North Franklin Street was a lively and fun way to welcome the season. DJ Nechaa kept the energy high, local shops stayed open late, and the games and activities brought out families, friends, and plenty of smiles.
This was also a great opportunity to support our downtown businesses during the Entertainment Zone
The Dog Days of Summer
The Dog Days of Summer event at Overtime Brewing was a fun afternoon for our community, both those with two legs, and those with four! From the agility course to the delicious treats, the energy was great and it was wonderful to support Overtime Brewing while enjoying the sunshine.
A big highlight was the incredible generosity shown during the Dog Food & Treat Drive Community members donated generously, and Fort Bragg Feed & Pet added a wonderful contribution as well. Thank you to everyone who came out, joined the fun, and helped make this event such a positive community moment.
Adults 21+ enjoyed to go beverages from participating bars and restaurants while strolling the event, creating a relaxed, festive, and safe atmosphere that kept the street active well into the evening. We’re looking forward to an exciting summer season ahead!
