Arts Arts Camps General Information The City of Evanston Arts Camps provide enrichment and exploration, giving youth the opportunity to immerse themselves in the arts and practice creativity, all of which leads to a fascinating summer. All camp staff have experience working with children and a background in and love of the arts. Each camp day includes classes in a variety of disciplines and may include field trips, visits from guest artists and special workshops. Most classes are held indoors, but Arts Camp gets outside whenever the weather permits. Most of our camps go to the beach once a week.

Arts Camp Locations

The location of Immersion of the Arts and Taste of the Arts Camp will be announced after approval by School District #65 this camp is always located in a District 65 school building and has Pre- and Post-care. YAP, single week themed camps and Early Childhood Camp are held at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center. Updates: call 847-448-8263.

Prior to the start of camp, you will receive a link to the Parent Web page via email, where you can download a detailed manual, all your forms and information on how to sign up for extended care for the camps that offer it. Weekly newsletters are published during camp; upon request, they will be sent by email. Several camps operate blogs and post final projects on YouTube.

Taste of the Arts Camp

YAP (Young Artist Program)

Some families like a deep dive into arts and process, other families are looking for a smorgasbord of summer single week options: this summer we have both at the same location.

Each week this STEAM based camp will look at ideas that are common to both the art world and the scientific community and then respond through visual and performing arts. We will explore the ideas through music, visual arts, drama, media and movement while sharing a facility and teaching staff with the Immersion in the Arts camp. Taste of the Arts campers are their own multi-aged group, a camp within a camp, only there for a week to taste all the disciplines. Days may include multiple classes, field trips and visits from guest artists.

Projects can include simple sound and physics experiments, writing and illustrating stories, dancing math concepts, looking at and creating art from various times. This camp offers Pre- and Post-care.

Theme: Find your vision, find your voice YAP is for teens seeking to explore their creativity, express their ideas and become empowered through the visual and performing arts experiences. YAP is designed for tweens and teens, age 11 years (entering grade 6) through 16 years, with any level of arts experience and a desire to deeply explore art forms. YAP offers a balance of in depth art classes with good old-fashioned summer camp fun. Attend a half-day to get a taste, or enroll in a full-day to immerse in the experience . In previous years, disciplines offered have ranged from printmaking and media, painting and collage; creative writing, cartooning, air guitar, improvisational comedy, video making, and performance poetry. There is always a varied mix, as YAP classes seek to expose teens to a wide variety of artistic practices and ideas which gives YAPpers the opportunity to learn new skills, express and pursue their individual interests and work collaboratively toward final presentations and projects. In our frenzied world, summer provides a time for young people to explore and develop new mastery.

YAP provides a time and space for creating community. Four days a week artists, instructors and mentors lead projects enhancing both individual expression and group collaboration.

On Fridays, we may welcome guest performers, participate in master workshops, go on a fieldtrip or an excursion to the beach. Be sure to dress up on Wednesdays; that’s our imaginative theme CosPlay days. At the end of each session, the program concludes with Friends and Family night : a gallery opening/reception, with a performance showcase. No camp July 4.

Arts Early Childhood Arts Our popular half day Early Childhood Camp has all the creativity of the Immersion in the Arts Camp but sized just right for younger campers.

We will explore ideas common to science and art through stories, art, water fun, guest artists, crafts, painting and a big maker space.

Let’s make things together! We’ll use paint, ink, pencils, sticks and wire to create three dimensional works of art. Masks, cardboard constructions and weaving are a few of the projects that camp director, Patti Montgomery, has in mind. Each day will start with free art time followed by a project and then time to play outdoors at Baker Park. Children are encouraged to explore media in new ways and design their own camp experience as they develop new skills.

Sports Aquatic Camps General Information Important registration information!

Due to high demand and safety concerns, register your child for either the morning or afternoon Youth Aquatic Camp per session, but not both. We do not prorate any Aquatic Camp offerings.

Swim Test Required

Although campers will wear Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices when they are aboard boats or other vessels, they are required to pass a 50-yard swim test (any combination of strokes) before they may participate in aquatic activities. The test will be given in the lake on the first day of camp (weather permitting). It’s in your best interest to be sure the camper can pass the test. Refunds will not be provided if the test is failed.

Youth Aquatic Camp

Adult Aquatic Adventures

If you love the water, you’ll love our Youth Aquatic Camp. Water activities include: sailing, kayaking, swimming, tubing, canoeing, water skiing, fishing along with theme days. When weather is inclement campers will participate in other fun activities such as fishing, games and sand sports. A camp bag is provided to participants. No camp July 4.

Teen Aquatic Camp

Have you “aged out” of our popular Youth Aquatic Camp, but still want to participate in your favorite lakefront activities? This camp is designed with you in mind! Please refer to the General Information description for details about apparel and the swim test. Water activities include: Sailing, Kayaking, Swimming, Tubing, Canoeing, and Water Skiing.

Aquatic Camp meets every day, but bad weather, poor lake conditions or equipment failure may require that activities take place place on the sand, in the park, or inside the Beach Office.

Instructors are highly qualified with extensive lakefront experience. All staff members are certified in waterfront lifeguarding, C.P.R. and First Aid.

Lakefront Variety Camps NEW! Sports & Aquatic Camp The Aquatics camp has teamed up with Sports Camp for a full day of activities at the lakefront: mornings (9:30am–12:30pm), variety of sports and recreational games; afternoons (1:30–4:30pm), traditional aquatics camp fun.

Campers will sign in at the Arrington Lagoon Building, participate in the morning sports activities, eat lunch and walk to Dempster Beach to participate in the afternoon session of the aquatics camp. No camp July 4.

This Aquatic Camp is offered for parents/ caregivers who want to share a great aquatic camp experience with their children. Multiple generations can participate in the same water sports as Aquatic Camp (tubing, sailing, paddling etc.) in a fun, relaxing environment.

A swim test is required at the first class. At least one parent must register for every two children and must be present at every class; adults and children must register at the same time. The fee listed is per person.

Sports Sports Camps Learn to Skate Hockey Camp Summer is the perfect season to develop skating and hockey skills. Daily ice sessions, outdoor activities, off ice conditioning and arts and crafts will be included. Rain or shine, campers will skate and learn skills in an upbeat, positive environment. Participants must be registered for camp one day prior to the beginning of a camp session, day of registrations will not be accepted. No camp July 4.

Comfortable athletic clothing and shoes are recommended for indoor/outdoor activities. A helmet, elbow and knee pads are recommended for on-ice activity. Skate rental is included in the registration cost.

Coaches will assist campers on a daily basis with their equipment. Full day participants are encouraged to bring a hockey stick. There is a limited supply of hockey sticks available to borrow.

Learn to Speedskate Camp This late summer camp is instructed by learn to skate coaches to develop interest in speed skating. Participants will have 2 full hours of Learn to Skate time on the Main Rink every day from 9:15–11:15am, as well as 2–4pm on Monday and Friday. Off ice time will be a rotation of activities, both indoor and outdoor throughout the week. Lunch is 11:30am–12:15pm.

Pee Wee Tennis Camp-Stage II This camp helps prepare children ages 6-10 yrs. for our popular Summer Daze Junior Tennis Camp! Junior Golf & Tennis Camp Every expert starts as a beginner. Let your child embrace their golf and tennis bug at our summer camp! The City of Evanston and The Golf Practice at Canal Shores Golf Course introduces the life-long sports of golf and tennis at a young age through programs that provide a fun and enriching experience for children while being a fitting and affordable option for parents.

Sports Junior EVP Tournament Camp This camp concentrates on the 2-person and 4-person beach volleyball games. Players learn to pass, set and overhand spike beach style!

Sports Camp Team sports, individual accomplishments and tons of fun await your camper at the ChandlerNewberger Sports Summer Camp and Sports Mini-Camp!

Our sports camp will introduce campers to a variety of sports, while placing an emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship. While taking part in sports such as soccer, lacrosse, softball and tennis, campers will also participate in traditional camp activities and playground games. Each camp day ends with a closing circle that allows campers to discuss their day, reflect and come together as a team.

Instruction in each sport is combined with play to encourage everyone to improve their skills (and put those skills into action) in a non-pressuring and exciting atmosphere.

Emphasis is always placed on enjoyment and sportsmanship not the final score!

Individual improvement is the focus, as well as understanding and enjoying team play and making new friends. Guided by our counselors, campers learn that cooperation and encouragement are an important part of building a successful team.

Field trips are included in both the full-day and half-day camps. The last day of each camp session will end with our Camp Olympics (grades 3–7) and Bonanza Extravaganza (grades 1–2) celebrations. No camp July 4.

Camp Staff

Our college-and high school-age counselors and assistant counselors have backgrounds in teaching or participating in a wide range of sports. The camp also has one Camp Director and three Assistant Directors.

Grouping of Campers

Campers are assigned to groups according to age. Every effort is made to place friends in the same group when so requested by both families

by May 3. After this date we will not accept grouping requests. Grouping requests may only include 3 children; we will not accommodate grouping requests of more than 3 campers.

Sports Camp Great America Trip

You have the option to send your child to Great America with the Chandler-Newberger Sports Camp. Children who are registered for both camp sessions may attend both trips. To sign up, please read this section and then register with the class number(s) listed below. Late registrations will be accepted until the day before each trip at a higher fee.

Campers must be registered for the sports camp session that coincides with the Great America date(s) for which you are registering.

The session they must be attending is listed next to the trip date.

If you would prefer your child not attend the Great America trip, you do not need to do anything. We’ll hold camp at ChandlerNewberger Community Center the day of the trip; campers not going on the trip should arrive at their normal start time.

If your family has season tickets for Great America or your child has earned a free ticket, you may choose to pay for only supervision and the bus and use your own ticket for park admission. You must provide us with the ticket the day before the trip. If we do not receive the ticket, your child will not be allowed to attend. The full registration fee includes park admission, supervision and transportation.

Campers need to bring additional money for lunch, souvenirs and snacks. We welcome volunteer chaperones (over age 18 yrs.). There are no refunds for the Great America trip.

Introduce your child to summer camp! Pee Wee Sports Camp is designed just for young campers! Our camp combines popular children’s games and fun activities with sports events. Campers feel comfortable as they play familiar and new games, while making friends in a noncompetitive, supportive atmosphere.

This camp is a great way to prepare children for the popular Chandler-Newberger Sports Camp for older children. Each camper receives a camp T-shirt (included in fee). Campers should wear clothing appropriate for outdoor sports. Check your parent packet for items to bring on beach or bowling days. No camp on July 4.

Activities

We encourage campers to improve their ability to play on a team and grow as individuals.

Activities include, but are not limited to games and sports such as soccer, t-ball, basketball and floor hockey. Outings include two beach days and one bowling day per 3-week camp session. Please remember to pack your child a snack for camp.

Pee Wee Sports Camp is held at three different locations. Please be sure to check the location next to the class number below.

Bent Park has a large soccer field, playground and park shelter.

Leahy Park is a large open park with a playground and park shelter. It is located just across the street from Chandler-Newberger.

We Got Game Basketball Mini-Camps feature skill-based drills and games designed to improve techniques and understanding of the game. NEW! Science & Sports Camp Northwestern CTD and our sport coaches have teamed up to provide children with experiences in a variety of sports, enriching them in the field of science exploration, and empower them with decision-making skills.

Session 1: Math for Sports

Math can tell us about scores and athletic performance. Students play different sports and then calculate, analyze, and estimate to demonstrate how math and sports are connected.

Session 2: Speed and Motion

Students learn the science behind what propels cars, planes, and other machines to move at extraordinary speeds. Through hands-on projects, students learn basic physics principals around motion and velocity.

Session 3: Sports Medicine

Students learn about musculoskeletal anatomy by exploring illustrations, creating models, and then applying what they learn! They also focus on staying safe and healthy in the gym and on the field.

Teen Leadership Teen Leadership Ecology Counselor in Training Do you want to learn what it takes to be a great camp counselor? You will spend the first two weeks learning about communication, leadership, problem solving and teamwork.

During the second two weeks, you will work with EcoQuest Camp, where you will play along with campers, assist counselors and lead activities.

In addition to counselor training, campers will participate in a variety of activities, including canoeing, bicycling, field trips and beach days.

A schedule will be provided prior to the start of camp. Some drop-off and pick-up locations will vary during the program.

As this is a counselor in training program for the Evanston Ecology Center Camps, the program also will include topics related to the environment such as responsible resource use, how to be a good “eco role model” and ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Aquatic Counselor in Training This camp gives you the training and experience that potential Aquatic Camp counselors need! Participants will work every day while “shadowing” counselors, learning how to teach basic aquatic skills (tubing, sailing, water skiing, fishing, etc.).

While anyone who can pass the 50-yard swim test may enroll in this program, participation in this camp does not guarantee future employment as Aquatic Camp staff. In addition to needing leadership and aquatic skills, Aquatic Camp staff must be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Professional Rescuer C.P.R. and First Aid and must have worked as a lifeguard for the City of Evanston for at least one season. Robert Crown Counselor in Training Program You can be a part of the future of recreation in Evanston by joining the Robert Crown Community Center team!

This Counselor in Training (CIT) Camp prepares teens to work with staff and contribute their talents to the programs offered by Robert Crown Community Center. Participants serve as role models for the younger children who are enrolled in the Center’s summer camps and receive weekly training from a variety of social service professionals and mentors.

This program builds community and prepares youth to work with children in a variety of settings. CIT participants receive basic training on a range of topics: how to interview and apply for a job, work-place skills, inclusion skills, how to assist small groups of campers in crafts and sports activities, redirection strategies, safety procedures and more. Senior staff evaluate and mentor the participants throughout the four week program and provide a final evaluation.

The first week of training will include observation of the many camps offered at Robert Crown, as well as an introduction to the program staff and program objectives.

The following week, CIT participants will be assigned to a camp, based on an interview and personal interests, while also receiving training on the various topics listed above.

Counselor In Training The Chandler-Newberger’s Counselor in Training (CIT) program will introduce young teens to the concept of leadership. The CIT Program Supervisor will track the performance of all CITs, focusing especially on the core values of teamwork, excellence, humility, selfawareness, perseverance and optimism.

Once a week the CIT Program Supervisor will meet individually with CITs to discuss and help them to reflect on their performance, and areas of strength and growth. Each CIT will receive an evaluation sheet from the CIT Program Supervisor weekly. There will be five mandatory workshops held at ChandlerNewberger Community Center to prepare CITs for their work as volunteers and as prospective counselors. Each participant will be required to volunteer for a minimum of 50 hours at one of Chandler Newberger’s summer camp programs and complete self-reflections about their hours online. If participants wish to continue volunteering beyond 50 hours, they must receive a score of 75% or better on their final evaluation.

Participants will be encourages to use their leadership skills in real-world situations while being supervise by Camp Directors, Assistant Directors and Counselors. Prior to the first workshop, participants will receive an online assignment via email. The assignment will entail a participant/parent information packet and a participant questionnaire.

The questionnaire will help the CIT Program Supervisor determine which camp best suits each volunteer and will help ensure a summer filled with growth, fun and excitement!

Volunteers will receive their camp assignment at the second workshop. The first (3) CIT workshops will take place from 4-5pm on either a Tuesday or Thursday. The last (2) CIT workshops will take place from 12-1p or 4-5p on either a Tuesday or Thursday. The first workshop will begin on Tuesday, June 18 th 2019 and Thursday, June 20 th , 2019. Once participants have enrolled, you will receive a schedule form to complete identifying which class you will attend each week. If a CIT is unable to make either workshop they must make time to follow up with the CIT Program Supervisor at another time. Note: Some accommodations cannot be made, especially in the case of multiple requests.

Variety Variety Camps Summer Safari Summer Safari camp provides the best of Evanston’s parks and beaches along with the best of what a small variety camp can be. Our individualized approach offers what can be your child’s most memorable camp experiences: small groups defined by age and interests, attention to detail and a special balance of outdoor activities. Beach visits will include both water play and sand castles. Quiet days might include reading or building, self-directed projects and crafts, small group projects or rainy day sports and games. In addition to occasional field trips celebrating our Summer Safari theme, weekly walking field trips to Robert Crown Community Center will include ice skating, and cooperative play. Campers attend from 7:30am–6pm, or 9am–5pm. There are no half day or summer school options available. Are you looking for a great way to end your summer? Ultimate Adventure Camp will give you the opportunity to enjoy your last few days of summer as we jam-pack the week with field trips! Campers can participate in many different activities as they “ad-venture” out into the Evanston community and beyond. The schedule and parent packet will be emailed to all participants in early August. Campers registered in the first week of camp will visit Great America (cost included). Past trips have included: Nickel City, American Action Territory Fun Park and Navy Pier. The camp fee includes field trip admission, transportation and a camp T-shirt. Children should bring a lunch each day.

Zombie Survival Camp: Basic Training Campers will learn the survival skills needed for the coming Zombie Apocalypse. Stealth and evasion, first aid and map reading are some of the skills we will teach our zombie fighting trainees as we search for a cure for the zombie scourge. Variety Robothink Robotics Challenge Mini Camp Join us for this fun RoboThink Robotics Challenge Mini Camp. Build battle robots, have robotic soccer competitions and design sensor robots! Sign up for both sessions to make it a full day. RoboThink offers academically oriented STEM programs focusing on robotics for budding, intermediate and/or advanced students. We are aligned with Next Gen Science standards and allow students to be hands on and engaged in formulating a problem and solving it through design. Armed with gears, motors, sensors, and mainboards, students build, and play with robots of all shapes, sizes, and functions. Ecology Camps EcoExplorer Camp EcoExplorer offers a unique opportunity to older children who are interested in nature and outdoor recreation. This camp unites the awareness of environmental topics with the practical experience of outdoor skills to form a greater appreciation of nature.

Campers are encouraged to take part in the world around. We explore solutions to some environmental issues by participating in teambuilding challenges, games, arts, community service projects and hands-on experience.

These two 4-week sessions include field trips, beach days, theme days and an overnight experience. During the third week, there will be an adventure-filled 3-day, 2-night camping trip.

General Information Resident Registration Information Camp Registration Day This year there will be a camp registration day taking place on February 2, 2019 from 8am–Noon online and in-person at the Levy Senior Center only. No phone registrations will be allowed at this time. Registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. This process will fairly allocate slots in camps which have high demand. The camp registration day is for Evanston residents only (zip codes 60201 and 60202). Proof of residency is required.

After Noon on February 2, you will not be able to register for additional camps or wait lists until Monday, February 4 at 10am.

Online Registration You must have an active email address to register online. To request an account, click on the “Need an account?” link at cityofevanston.org/register.

Online registrations for residents will begin on February 2, 2019 from 8am–Noon. All camp transactions must be completed by Noon.

For online registrations, simply follow these easy steps: • Existing online accounts: Plan ahead, check that your account is accessible 48 hour prior to registration day.

• New online accounts: Accounts must be created 24 hours prior to registration day.

• Use the “+” icon by each camp section to select all of your choices.

• After all selections have been made, click on the “add to cart” button on the bottom left corner of the screen.

• Select the corresponding camp(s) for your child(ren) and click “continue”.

• A review of your shopping cart will appear, click “proceed to checkout”.

• Select payment method, enter the payment amount (must pay minimum amount due) and click “continue”.

• Enter payment information and “submit payment”.

• A receipt will automatically be emailed.

Your child(ren) must meet all requirements to enroll in the camps listed in the 2019 Summer Camp Guide. Exceptions to any requirement cannot be made online. If you need an exception for camp, you must register in-person.

Please note that registrations will be taken in-person simultaneously at the Levy Senior Center. Each camp will have a small number of slots reserved for in-person registrations only.

In-Person Registration For in-person registration, simply follow these easy steps: • Arrive at the Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave., on February 2, 2019 from 8am–Noon.

• Upon entry, each person will receive a number on a first-come, first-serve basis.

• Residents will be directed to the gym where they will receive registration forms and have the opportunity to consult with staff on camp options.

• Use the registration form to compile the first and second choice of camp selections for your child(ren).

• Numbers will be called in groups to proceed to the registration desk to enroll in camp and proof of residency will be required at this time.

• Staff will complete your registration with a $25 deposit per section.

• A receipt will be provided upon completion confirming your camp selections.

Nonresident Registration Information Registration for nonresidents begins at 10am on Monday, February 11, 2019. At that time, nonresidents may register for camps online at cityofevanston.org/register, at all the recreation centers and by phone. A $25 deposit per camp section is due at enrollment.

Camp Policies Deposit Policy A $25 deposit is required for each camp section at the time of your child(ren) enrollment.

Deposits are never refunded but may be transferred in compliance with the transfer policy. There are no payment plans or fee assistance available for deposits.

Wait List Wait lists for camp sections will only become available after the initial registration day, beginning on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 10am for residents only. Wait list registrations can be taken in-person at all community centers, over the phone and online. There is no fee required to be on a wait list(s).

Registration Cut-off In order to have safe, adequate staffing levels on the first day of camp, registration will close before camp starts. If registration is closed, ask if there is a wait list; payment is not required to be on a wait list.

Please be prepared to submit a timely payment after being notified of an opening. Camp slots are non-transferable; if your child receives a slot, you cannot give this slot to another person, including family members.

Transfer Policy

Final Payment/Payment Plans

Through 4pm on Monday, May 6, 2019, you may request that your child transfer from one City of Evanston camp to a new registration in another City of Evanston camp. Contact the center hosting the camp to initiate a transfer to a new selection.

Please allow time for the requests to be processed. Do not bring your child to the “new” camp until you are contacted by that the transfer has been approved and finalized.

Transfers are made based on availability in the second camp. Program fees vary. If the camp you are transferring into has a higher fee, you must pay the difference before the transfer will be approved. If the camp you are transferring into has a lower fee, a refund will be issued. Camp deposits or camp balance payments are not transferable to non-camp programs.

Starting May 6, 2019, the department reserves the right to accommodate or deny transfers on a case-by-case basis. There will be a $20 charge for all transfers requested after May 6, 2019 (if the transfer can be accommodated).

May 6, 2019 balance due date for all camp fees (see “Ways to Pay” below).

Payment plan options may be available after a thorough review of special circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Payment plans are arranged by community center Program Coordinators. If the camp is held at a park or school, please call 311 (847-448-4311) and we will direct you to the appropriate program coordinator.

If you haven’t arranged a payment plan or paid the balance due by May 6, 2019, we reserve the right to cancel your child’s reserved space(s) and you will forfeit your camp deposit(s).

Households with a previous balance are required to pay in full to all outstanding balances prior to starting camp.

Refunds

Ways to Pay Payments are accepted: Online at cityofevanston.org/register, by phone, mail or in person.

Accepted forms of payments: Major credit cards, check, money order or cash (in person only).

We do not offer refunds except in the case of a documented medical excuse preventing your child from participating in camp or a documented requirement for your child to attend summer school. All such requests for a refund must be submitted in person to the Program Coordinator at your camp location that is responsible for overseeing your camp

by May 6, 2019. Deposits are never refundable.

Fee Assistance/ Scholarships A limited amount of fee assistance (scholarship) is available to qualifying Evanston residents based on family size and total family income.

There are a limited number of spaces in camps and each camp has a limit on fee assistance, so please apply early. Fee assistance applications are not processed by telephone and it takes at least five business days for processing.

Fee assistance applications are available at community centers and the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave. and online at cityofevanston.org/recreationscholarship.

To receive a copy by mail, please call 311 (847-448-4311).

Fee assistance is valid for one year. For your initial application, we will accept your current financial information (current tax return and W-2).

Some families receive camp payment assistance from a third party agency. The City of Evanston Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will work with families receiving camp payment assistance from a third party agency, providing the following guidelines are followed: • The paperwork process must begin by May 6, 2019; please contact the camp’s program manager by that date.

• A payment contract must be signed by the primary guardian of the camper before the first day of camp, indicating they will be responsible for the guardian co-payment or the entire camp balance in the event assistance is denied.

If the above items are not completed in the time frame indicated, the City of Evanston Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department reserves the right to deny participation until required fees are paid.

General Information Health, Safety and ADA Information/Emergency Contact Form Participants in City of Evanston camp programs are required to have an information/emergency form on file prior to the first day of camp.

The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has teamed up with ePACT to improve the health and safety of children enrolled in our camp programs this summer. ePACT is one of the leading secure electronic health record systems for campers. Instead of filling out paper forms, you will enter health/ emergency contact information through the encrypted online system.

Detailed instructions of how to register and enter the information will be available in the second half of March 2019.

Health, Contact Information and Code of Conduct If your child is ill, do not send him/her to camp.

First aid for minor cuts or abrasions is available.

The City of Evanston doesn’t carry hospitalization insurance for program participants; your family’s individual health care policy must cover all your medical needs.

Please pay special attention to the area on the information form that asks for your phone numbers so we can contact you if the need arises.

The form also has an area to list health concerns.

Parents and camp staff must work together to ensure that each child understands the importance of safe camping. Before camp starts, camps will include the City of Evanston’s Code of Conduct policy as part of the parent packet.

It will be implemented if a child’s behavior begins to interfere with the rights of others.

Special Needs, Medications and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Does your child need special accommodations to allow him/her full participation? Examples of needs are medication, behavior management and physical assistance.

The City of Evanston welcomes the participation of all individuals in our programs, including those with disabilities. We are fully committed to complying with the ADA and providing reasonable accommodations to facilitate participation in our programs. The sooner we know about your special situation, the more time we have to make reasonable accommodations to improve your child’s recreational experience with us!

At the time of registration, it is the responsibility of a parent/guardian to contact our Inclusion Coordinator to make arrangements for any accommodations. Those registering closer to the start of camp must contact our Inclusion Coordinator no later than 2 weeks before camp starts; otherwise, camp attendance may be delayed.

Pick-up/Drop-off Policy and Misc. Information “Safety First” Drop-off and Pick-up Please be aware that camps have sign-in and sign-out procedures that must be followed.

Parents, custodians or guardians are responsible for promptly picking up children when the program ends. If a child is picked up more than five minutes late, you will be assessed a late fee of $10 per child per 15-minute period. Continued tardiness may result in your child being removed from the remainder of the session.

Campsites Although campsites listed were confirmed at press time, locations are subject to change based on space availability and School District #65’s final approval in spring 2019. Visit cityofevanston.org/summercamps for an update or call 311 (847-448-4311).

Starting Date, Snow Days and Summer School Schedules were set assuming School District #65’s school year will end before Friday, June 7, 2019. If the school year is extended and the starting date of our camps changes, we’ll mail a notice to parents/guardians in May. If your child is required to attend summer school, please contact the program coordinator so potential accommodations may be discussed.

Quality Assurance We strive to provide the highest-quality programs. We’re confident that all participants will enjoy them. However, if you are not satisfied, we welcome suggestions and ideas that you think will help us improve our programs.

Photography and Videotaping Photographs or videotapes are occasionally taken of camp participants for promotional and administrative uses for the City of Evanston.

If you wish to place your child’s name on a list of children who shouldn’t be videotaped or photographed, please call 847-448-8041.

Updated or Corrected Information Every attempt was made to supply accurate information, but information may change after the guide is printed in December. Camp locations are expected to be confirmed in May after School District #65 determines their needs. Updates, including confirmed camp sites, will be posted at cityofevanston.org/summercamps. Pre- and Post-camp Care Pre- and Post-care assists parents by offering a safe environment for their children beyond normal camp hours. Each Pre- and Post-care site offers children access to various recreational activities and equipment so children can relax and play. This is not an extension of the camp curriculum; activities might include playground time and board games. Pre- and Post-care service is available for campers registered in specific camps (see list below).

Fee assistance for Pre- and Post-care is available to qualified Evanston residents only for weekly payments. Care will be supervised at an approximately 10:1 camper/staff ratio; at many camp sites, assistant directors will be responsible for supervision before and after the normal camp hours.

Fees:

Pre-care: $15 per day or $30 per week Post-care: $15 per day or $40 per week

Pre- and Post-camp Care is available at an additional cost at only the following camps: Evanston Ecology Center:

EcoQuest, EcoExplorer, EcoTravelers and Summer Summit. All Ecology camps will have post-care at one campsite (site TBD).

Chandler-Newberger Community Center: Sports Camp, Sports Mini-Camp and Ultimate Adventure Camp. Chess Camp only has Pre-care.

Arts Camps:

Immersion in the Arts Camp, Taste of Immersion in the Arts Camp, Animalia Camp, Crafters Camp, Pirate Camp, Space Camp, Romans Camp, Royals, Knights and Nobles Camp and Renaissance Camp.

Robert Crown Community Center:

How to Register for Pre- or Post-camp Care You may now register online for Pre- and Postcare starting at 10am on March 12, 2019. For a registration form, please contact the community center where your child will attend camp (see below). If the camp is to be held at a school, park or site to be determined, call the phone number listed in the camp description; staff will mail you a form for that camp. If your child will attend camp at different locations, you will need to complete a registration form for each camp site.

4. Children must be picked up promptly when Post-camp Care is scheduled to end at their site. In emergency situations, a late fee of $10 per 15-minute period or any portion of a 15-minute period will be charged. Abuse of this emergency system may result in removal of the child from the camp program.

The City of Evanston’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department may once again operate a Summer Food Service Program through a grant from the Illinois State Board of Education. If the grant is awarded for 2019, free cold lunches will be served Monday–Friday to youth age 1–18 years at four park sites this summer. The summer food service program is available to all eligible children without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, or handicap.
