Schedule for Downtown and Streets with Parking on Only One Side
As part of the City’s commitment to continuous improvement, a year-long analysis of street cleaning operations was conducted. The objective was to determine how to most effectively clean the streets and then clearly communicate the necessary parking regulations. Last year, many community members provided detailed input and suggestions through a survey. The feedback helped form an updated operations plan, which was approved by City Council.
Shorter Parking Restrictions
New street signs are now being installed, which list the specific days and times parking is restricted. (i.e. 2nd Thursday of Month, 9am–1pm) Residential streets will now be cleaned from either 9am–1pm or from 12pm–4pm.
Residential Schedule
Most residential streets will now be swept once per month. Signs posted at the beginning and end of each block provide the specific day and time frame the street will be cleaned. A list of restricted dates is also included in this brochure for your convenience.
Primary Schedule
Streets designated as Primary Routes will be swept twice per month, rather than every two weeks. This minor adjustment allows signage to communicate the specific cleaning schedule.
The new signs being posted will look different, but parking habits won’t have to change. (See Map 2 for streets with parking on one side only.)
Text Alerts
Text message and email notifications to remind residents of street cleaning will continue to be available. Sign up for alerts for your cleaning district(s) at cityofevanston.org/streetcleaning. The City is excited about these improvements and hopes that you will find the new system easy to follow. For more information, please visit cityofevanston.org/streetcleaning or call/text 847-448-4311. For convenience, residents may simply dial 3-1-1 in Evanston.
Extended Season
The street cleaning season was extended in early spring and late fall to clear debris and leaves, weather permitting. The season is now March 1–December 15. Parking enforcement for the 2016 season will begin Monday, May 2 to allow for installation of the new signage.
