Things have changed ...

Things are looking a little bit different around Eugene Rec. We know this might sound like an understatement.

But we want you to know that even though we may be limited in what we can offer, we are working hard to bring you the fun, health and connection that we all need now more than ever.

Research shows recreating is good for our bodies and our brains. It grows new neuron connectors, sharpens our minds and keeps us young. With our three pools and seven community centers we strive to provide recreation opportunities to all Eugene residents for sharp minds and strong bodies. That hasn’t changed since the onset of COVID-19. In fact, it heightened our focus. As we shut down in the spring and slowly worked back to providing limited services, our goal has always been finding a way to keep connecting with you.

This fall we are happy to provide an outlet for all ages. And you can bet we’ve done everything to make your time at our facilities feel safe and

secure. We have extensive cleaning and physical distancing protocols in place that you can read about in the next few pages. And we are offering more online programming than ever before.

Of course, we also understand if you don’t yet feel it’s the right time to return. We get it. We are also cautious and for that reason we are asking our older patrons and other vulnerable populations to hold off attending in-person classes until Oregon Governor Kate Brown places Lane County in Phase 3. We can’t tell you when that might be but we can assure you one thing: We’ll be waiting for you with a smile.

• Online: If you have registered with us before, make sure you have your login information.

Not sure if you have an account? Visit our online registration and click “Log In/Create Account,” then select “Log In with Email” and select “Forgot Password.” If you have an account your login information will be emailed to you.

Need to create an account? Visit our online registration and click “Login In/Create Account” then select “Create Your Eug Rec Account.”

• By Phone: Call the recreation facility providing the activity or call 541-682-5333. Have your Visa or MasterCard number handy.

• In Person: Visit any recreation facility or pool.

Registration is ongoing and open to residents and nonresidents on a �irst-come basis. Register early; many classes �ill quickly. Classes may be canceled if there are not enough registrations.

Rec Participant Card Now Required to Register We are now requiring all participants to get a free participant card before registering for an activity. The card will allow you to quickly and easily check in when you arrive at Rec programs and activities – similar to the pool pass we have offered for years. It takes just a minute to sign up, is free and does not require any additional personal information.

The participant card is unrelated to COVID-19, but it does allow us to inform you if we learn that you have been in a program or activity with someone who has fallen ill. If a program participant or Lane County Public Health lets us know that someone is exhibiting signs of COVID-19, we will be able to quickly and easily view the attendance list of others in the program and let them know they may have been exposed. We will not release any information to others about your attendance, we will only use this information to contact you directly.

You can sign up for your card online, and �inish the process when you next visit a program or center. We will just need to take your photo and print your card.

COVID Protocols Eugene Rec’s �irst priority is the safety of our patrons while taking a class or spending time at any of our facilities. Staff have worked in conjunction with the broader City of Eugene reopening effort to develop the necessary protocols to safely host community members. Our programs follow City, county and state guidelines and best practices from the CDC, the Oregon Health Authority and Lane County Public Health.

Below you’ll �ind information on what to expect when attending a Eugene Rec program, but it isn’t an exhaustive list. For more detail on what the City is doing, visit our website. We acknowledge that Oregon Guidelines are subject to change, and this document is a point in time and may be revised as new guidelines are provided.

Sanitation All staff have been trained in proper sanitation techniques.

Before reopening, all facilities were thoroughly cleaned and strict sanitation protocols were put into place. Hard to clean furniture and surfaces were removed and replaced with easier to clean items. Unnecessary equipment and furniture were moved to storage to allow for physical distancing and to cut down on cleaning time.

Face Coverings

Each facility has a sanitation checklist of the areas and surfaces that must be cleaned and the frequency with which these cleanings occur. High-traf�ic areas and high-touch surfaces are cleaned frequently throughout the work day.

Based on the Governor’s orders, Eugene Rec programs follow the following requirements:

Health Checks

• Face coverings are required for all individuals ages 5 and up in indoor public spaces. Face coverings are required in outdoor spaces when 6 feet of distance can’t be maintained.

Adjustments to face covering policies may be made to follow different Oregon Health Authority sector speci�ic guidelines outlined for programs such as aquatics, childcare and camps.

• Individuals who have a medical condition that makes it hard to breathe or a disability that prevents the individual from wearing a mask, face shield or face covering can request an accommodation to enable full and equal access to services, transportation, and facilities open to the public.

• All staff are required to wear facial coverings in publicly accessible or shared indoor spaces and outdoor spaces where physical distancing can’t be maintained.

Patrons are greeted at or near the entrance of each Rec facility and asked to sign in. They are asked whether they or anyone they’ve been in contact with have had any symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 72 hours; if they answer yes they will be asked to not enter the facility.

Patrons and staff are not permitted to attend programs if they have had known exposure to COVID-19 or anyone in their household has recently had an illness with fever or a new cough. They should remain home for at least 10 days after illness onset and until 72 hours after fever is gone, without use of fever reducing medicine, and COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, and diarrhea) are improving. Staff or participants who have a cough that is not a new onset cough (e.g. asthma, allergies, etc.), are not excluded from programs.

Facility Rentals

Physical Distancing Each Eugene Rec facility went through an audit to determine its maximum capacity under the new state guidelines. Markings, signage and physical barriers have been set up around each facility to direct traf�ic �low and to ensure proper physical distancing. We ask all patrons who enter our facilities to respect others and maintain the proper 6 feet of distance.

State guidelines allow up to 100 people in an event venue as long as safe operating procedures are followed. Patrons who rent Eugene Rec facilities are required to limit the number of people in attendance, maintain physical distancing, adhere to face covering requirements, and ensure that attendees have not recently experienced symptoms or been exposed to COVID-19.

Adaptive Get Involved!

Adaptive Rec programs are designed for people with disabilities, and are for ages 18+, unless otherwise noted. Classes and activities are structured for different levels of ability. All Adaptive Rec programs require registration. Participants must complete a Participant Information Form before attending.

Fees do not include the cost of meals and admission, unless otherwise noted. For more information call 541-683-5311.

Have Questions?

New participants are welcome to call before registering for programs. Staff are available to discuss recreation resources and opportunities. Certi�ied Therapeutic Recreation Specialists are available to answer questions regarding the activities that are most appropriate for you, a family member or an individual in your care.

Participation Every effort will be made to reasonably accommodate each individual. However, if a person’s conduct poses physical harm or risk to self or others, as indicated in the Patron Code of Conduct, they may be removed from programs. Personal Support Workers are welcome to attend programs to support individuals with behavioral and/or personal care needs. PSWs are required to register for programs. Inclusion Services Eugene Rec staff is committed to making all reasonable efforts to ensure that its facilities, programs and services are accessible to and usable by all people. Individuals with disabilities are welcome to participate in any City of Eugene Recreation program within the eligibility requirements (age, prerequisites, etc.).

When additional support is required for successful participation in Eugene Recreation programs, staff utilize the Inclusion Services process to determine programmatic modi�ications and/or individual support plans that best �it the participant.

To initiate the Inclusion Services process, please discuss your request upon registration in person, over the phone or online at least two weeks in advance.

Youth Activities Child safety and parent peace of mind are the foundations of our programming. In addition to ongoing training in CPR / First Aid and curriculum and behavior management, all our staff has received additional training around COVID-19 safety protocols.

Even with new guidelines, our core principles for providing youth activities to our community haven’t changed. With staff’s guidance, your child will discover the world around them through social interaction, learning and play. Amazon, Petersen Barn and Sheldon community centers all provide rich opportunities for kids across a variety of interests.

This class isn’t just about learning to draw well. It’s about encouraging students to develop a lifelong habit of drawing.

Bicycling Learn to Ride a Bicycle

This class is for all levels. We will cover the basic technique and fundamentals of modern dance, giving the dancers con�idence in their movement. This con�idence paired with individual creativity will help guide students through the process of choreographing a piece of their own. No dance shoes will be needed.

Leadership Teen Court

Members in Eugene’s Teen Court gain experience in decision making, communication and law. Help your peers by joining as a volunteer juror in our virtual court hearings, held on Thursday evenings. Outdoor Kayak Club

Ages 11-17

The River House Outdoor Center Kayak Club is an opportunity for youth to learn how to �latwater and river kayak, and/or to re�ine pre-existing skills. The Kayak Club will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings and will be split into beginner and intermediate sessions. Club participants will need to be dropped off at various locations throughout each session so on-water time can be maximized.

Beginner The beginner session will start paddlers with �irst-time basics, building the needed foundation for each participant.

The class will begin in a �latwater environment and use siton-top kayaks. Gradually this session will work up to paddling on local rivers and potentially use sit-inside kayaks while covering all the information needed to be a competent river kayaker.

Echo Hollow Pool update

If you’ve driven by Echo Hollow Pool and Fitness Center recently it probably looks just a bit different.

For months now the exterior of the pool has been a beehive of activity as construction crews have bulldozed, excavated and poured concrete. It might look a bit chaotic now, but you know there’s a grand plan to it all, and we’re thrilled with the progress that will breathe new life into the 50-year-old facility.

Expected completion of the project still is projected for winter 2021.

Construction started on Feb. 24, and it didn’t take long for things to change. Two weeks into the first phase of construction the chain link fence was down and the entire deck space had been bulldozed in preparation for the moving of utilities. The pools were emptied and the interior prepped for the expansion.

This project is one that patrons have gotten excited about. The addition of year-round swimming lanes to the outdoor pool and a brand-new recreation pool will make Echo Hollow a popular spot in the summer months. To meet the higher demand the

City is also investing in the locker room space, and part of the plan includes a large lawn outside for people to enjoy.

The most visible part of the expansion are the two outdoor pools. The frame of the expanded, multiuse pool has been poured. With more swimming lanes and a deep end to accommodate a higher diving board, the outdoor tank will be a highlight of Echo Hollow’s year-round schedule.

Behind the big pool is the brand-new activity pool that will include a slide and a zero-entry area that allows patrons to walk right in. Over the coming weeks that area will come together.

Of course the outside features are the easiest to see but the complete renovation of the interior along with a new roof will ensure Echo Hollow can last for another 50 years. The interior tank is getting upgraded with a new lining and a more adaptivefriendly entry. The locker rooms have been completely gutted in preparation for their makeovers, which will include more locker space, more bathrooms and better privacy for families.

To meet the energy demand for increased pool space, money from both the Echo Hollow and Campbell Community Center projects was combined to create a large solar array on the roof of the pool. Oregon State Law requires public entities spend 1.5 percent of public building construction costs on green energy technology for major renovations. This will have a big cost-saving effect for the City as Echo Hollow was one of the City’s highest energy using buildings.

While the focus has been on providing expanded space for patrons, building upgrades are necessary to replace systems at the end of their lifecycle that are old and risk failure without renovation, as well as to address energy efficiency issues and meet energy code requirements. We must ensure it can continue to serve the community for years to come. These upgrades include energy efficient lighting, plumbing replacements, pool equipment replacements for the indoor pool and new equipment to support the additional pool area added outside.

The lobby space addition is included to increase safety and visibility for staff members at the front desk and to allow additional family change rooms to be built and accessed from the travel path between the front door and pool deck (where staff offices and desk are currently located).

All of this comes as part of a grander vision for Eugene’s Parks and Recreation System Plan. In May 2018 voters passed a $39.35 million bond and $3.15 million levy to provide major support to Parks and Open Space and Eugene Rec projects.

As the project marches toward completion others will begin. Over the coming months and years, we will be asking for your thoughts once again on specific projects as we start to dig in. Stay tuned, and thanks again for your vote of support!

Next in line: Sheldon Pool The project team took feedback from community outreach meetings held earlier this year and is currently developing plans for the Sheldon Pool Renovation and Expansion. Robertson Sherwood Architects, the same firm managing the Echo Hollow renovation, is in charge of the project. Designs will be shared with the public this fall, and construction is anticipated to begin early in 2021 after Echo Hollow Pool construction is complete.

Aquatics Summer 2020 was different for Eugene Rec Aquatics.

Typically, our team of lifeguards and staff are kept busy from early morning lap swimming to evening rec swims. Amazon Pool buzzes with hectic energy. It’s never a dull moment.

Instead, this summer we had to take a step back. We implemented new cleaning and physical distancing rules.

We limited our hours and capacity. While necessary, we still missed the lively energy of our pools on a hot afternoon.

This fall you can expect much of the same. Since June we’ve been able to offer limited lap swimming and family water

safety classes at Sheldon and Amazon pools. Our staff took your phone calls to register swimmers on a revolving twoweek schedule. We know it wasn’t easy and we thank you for your patience. We are continuing to work on �inding better ways to streamline lap swim sign up and expand our services.

We’re also excited for next winter’s reopening of the newly renovated Echo Hollow Pool and Fitness Center, which you can read all about on the previous pages. While we don’t know what our grand reopening for the expanded and renovated facility will look like, we do know it will go above and beyond your expectations.

Aquatics COVID Protocols Amazon and Sheldon Pools will be operating in accordance with Oregon Health Authority guidelines for pools. All activities require prior registration to participate; drop-ins will not be taken.

Masks must be worn throughout the facilities unless in the pool. We recommend coming to the pool ready to swim no earlier than 5-10 minutes before your reserved time.

Lockers will not be available; please bring your belongings on the pool deck. You will need to leave the facility within 510 minutes of your reservation end time. Shower stalls will be limited so plan accordingly.

Adult & Senior Activities Adventure, community and happiness are three core tenants of Eugene Rec. Nowhere is this clearer than in the services we provide for our adult and senior community members. As we mature and grow older it is important to be engaged and have a strong social network. We always strive to provide patrons with a wide mix of activities, no matter your interest.

Adult and Senior services are designed to promote and maintain health and well-being, enhance quality of life, strengthen support networks and recognize individual desires to remain active, productive and independent.

Throughout this section you’ll �ind many of the offerings we’ve always had, including plenty of creative ways to stay busy this fall as the weather gets cooler. We are particularly

Table tennis is the perfect game because it provides exercise, recreation and a social outlet. Play in a friendly atmosphere open to all skill levels. COVID-19 safety protocols: Please maintain the social distance protocol of 6 feet. Single play only. Two tables are available, which means four people max in the room. Each half hour round of play is followed by a half hour of sanitation time. Bring your own paddle if possible. Paddles and balls are available and will be sanitized between playing time slots. Masks are required at all times. Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes as well as spray are available in the room and you are encouraged to use them.

Practice and experiment with new techniques. Learn from the instructor’s demonstration each week. Work at your own pace and develop your own style of painting. Supplies will be discussed at the �irst class.

Campbell Center update

The finish line is in sight for Eugene Rec’s first bond project.

Construction started on the much-anticipated Campbell Community Center expansion and renovation on Feb. 24, and since then we have avidly watched as a brand-new wing emerged from the north lawn nearest the Ruth Bascom Riverbank Trail.

We can’t wait for it to be done and to show all of you what Campbell has to offer. The second oldest senior center on the west coast has seen many changes since it was first gifted to the City in the 1960s, but over the last six months Campbell has been getting its biggest addition and renovation to make it a home for Eugene’s seniors for decades to come. We think Celeste Campbell would be proud to see this continued investment in her legacy.

Excavation for the 5,745 square-foot expansion was the first thing to be completed, as crews laid the foundation for the wing that will include new opportunities for senior fitness classes. The complete project will include a brightly lit great hall that overlooks the path and the river. Adding fitness space at Campbell has always been a top priority for Eugene Rec, and the addition will have a fitness center and exercise rooms. Also included in the project are enhancements to the current building, including an improved entrance, a new courtyard, a reconstructed lobby and a larger arts room.

All of these have seen significant progress as we approach the final few months of the renovation. The HVAC system has been updated and the plumbing and tiling are completed. The new reception and lounge area are nearing completion and a crew is preparing to paint the interior in the coming month.

Another sign that things are progressing? The temporary wall that divided the old building and the new addition will be removed soon.

All of this is part of the broader Eugene Parks and Rec System Plan. Voters approved a $38.35 million bond and $3.15 million levy in May 2018 to fund these projects and more. To learn more about the System Plan and the progress of other bond projects, please visit our website.

Adult & Senior Health & Fitness We have some exciting developments with our �itness offerings at Eugene Rec. It became clear during the Governor’s Stay Home, Save Lives order that we needed more digital options for our �itness programs so anyone could safely engage with us. Our programmers and teachers jumped right into creating homemade content but we knew we needed to do more. We invested in lights and microphones and sound equipment. Staff brainstormed and hustled to convert programming to digital formats.

Thanks to a generous grant from Oregon Recreation and Park Association and The North Face we now have three more live-streaming cameras, and instructor Cindy O’Brien

has been doing the hard work of �inding the best way to do live and in-person �itness classes on YouTube Live. The setup is simple for our instructors, and the best part is it will allow patrons to keep �it from the safety and comfort of their home. These high-quality videos are easily shareable and are available for a short period after the class for those who signed up but missed them live.

This capability is part of our strategy for the future, as one of these cameras will be installed in the new Campbell �itness center to live-stream �itness classes, presentations, and town hall meetings. It’s all part of Eugene Recreation’s goal of creating a healthier, more connected community.

Get Strong Stay Fit A class for mature adults to maintain or enhance mobility, balance and strength. Class incorporates low-impact cardio, core training, muscular endurance and bone strengthening.

Methods include safe, fun and effective exercises such as simple dance steps, yoga, balancing, stretching and hand-held weightlifting. Individual modi�ications may include the use of a chair or wall to help with balance or personal limitations.

The hour-long class includes short breaks for water and socializing. This class will be held outdoors. Please wear good footwear and be prepared for any weather.

Neuromuscular Exercise

Ages 22+

This class is ideal for individuals with neuromuscular challenges (Parkinson’s, mild stroke, multiple sclerosis) that may cause loss of balance and coordination. These classes engage the brain and body to encourage more �luid, balanced movement. Most exercises are performed standing and moving about the room but a chair is provided for rest and balance support as needed. Seated work will be included.

Adult & Senior Outdoor Excuse us if we sound like a broken record, but we think we’re pretty lucky to call the Eugene area our home. Close by are miles and miles of trails, extensive running paths, an elaborate biking system and a pristine river. We don’t have to go far to enjoy the outdoors.

for exploring our amazing environs. Our limited offerings this fall re�lect that mentality. Gone, for a time, are the big hiking and boating trips to our favorite places in the broader area. In their place are offerings to learn a new skill or walks to some of our local wonders.

Throughout the pandemic it has been obvious we all need outdoor recreation, and while we were forced to stay closer to home, avoid crowded areas and wear masks when we couldn’t physically distance, it didn’t change our enthusiasm

If you work or recreate in locations where access to medical care is delayed or communication is unreliable, this 10-day Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is for you. Upon completion you will be able to conduct a thorough physical exam, obtain a patient history, assess vital signs, provide emergency care in the wilderness and make crucial evacuation decisions. Adult & Senior Outdoor Kayak Instructor Course The American Canoe Association (ACA) River Kayak Instructor Certi�ication Workshop (ICW) Level I through IV is a certi�ication course offered over two weekends. The �irst weekend is required for all instructor candidates and focuses on Level I-III curriculum as well as ACA teaching theory. The second weekend will be exclusively for instructor candidates pursuing Level III and IV certi�ications.

Each portion of the course consists of two parts, the Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) and the Instructor Certi�ication Exam (ICE).

In the IDW candidates learn from their trainers as well as each other, and re�ine paddling skills while expanding their understanding of experiential and adventure education.

During the IDW the candidates are only evaluated on their ability to be punctual, enthusiastic, personable, professional, �lexible, self-reliant, active and attentive. Candidates are not evaluated on any paddling or teaching skills. Re�inement and growth are the goals for the IDW. The second portion of the course is the ICE. The ACA expects that all ICE participants have the paddling skills, technical knowledge, rescue ability, teaching ability, group management and interpersonal skills prior to evaluation at the ICE. During the ICE, candidates will be evaluated and certi�ication will be based on performance during the ICE only.

El club de kayak del Centro de Actividades al Aire Libre de River House le da la oportunidad a jóvenes a que aprendan a practicar kayak y/o a perfeccionar sus habilidades en aguas tranquilas y en ríos, El Club de Kayak se llevará a cabo los lunes y los miércoles por la noche y se dividirá en sesiones para principiantes e intermedios. Se debe dejar a cada participante del club en varios lugares durante cada sesión para poder aprovechar el mayor tiempo posible en el agua.

Principiantes La sesión para principiantes iniciará a los remadores con lo más básico para poder construir las bases fundamentales que necesita cada participante. La clase comenzará en un ambiente de aguas tranquilas y se usarán kayaks autovaciable. Gradualmente, empezara a aprender a remar en los ríos locales y potencialmente se usaran kayaks de aguas bravas mientras se cubre toda la información que se necesita para ser un kayakista competente de río.

Policies Minimum Class Requirements In order to recover program costs, a minimum number of participants are required. Please register early. Classes and activities will be canceled between two and �ive days before the activity start date if the minimum number of participants have not registered.

If you register for an activity that is canceled because of low enrollment, staff will notify you and issue a refund. For more about the withdrawal/refund policy, see below.

Withdrawal/Refund Policy Withdrawal and refund requests must be made to the facility sponsoring the activity.

Withdrawals from recreation activities are subject to a withdrawal fee. A withdrawal fee of $10 will be charged for each registration under $100. A withdrawal fee of $25 will be charged for each registration $100 and higher.

An additional Release from Liability Agreement, signed by the participant or guardian, may be required for participation in some activities.

Photographs, videos and audio of participants in Recreation Services programs may be used by the City of Eugene in any medium (e.g., print publications, social media, etc.) for publicity purposes, without compensation or permission.

Registration and/or payment of any registration fee shall be deemed an admission of agreement to the terms stated above.

A refund will be issued minus the withdrawal fee when requested at least seven (7) or more calendar days before the �irst activity meeting.

Scholarship Program

When a refund is requested six (6) or fewer calendar days before the �irst activity meeting or once a class or activity has started, a refund shall be issued only if:

Applications are available in November each year for the upcoming year (January 1-December 31).

• You move out of town.

• You are medically unable to participate.

• Department action requires cancellation of the activity (no withdrawal fee will be charged).

Refunds will be pro-rated for classes already attended.

No refund will be issued if you fail to show up for a registered activity, class or trip. No refund will be given for athletic league fees and trips that require prepayment of advanced reservation tickets or admission fees.

Some activities require a non-refundable registration fee.

Release from Liability Agreement With the exception of speci�ic trips, City of Eugene Recreation does not provide medical insurance coverage for its participants. In consideration of the right to participate, each participant must acknowledge there are risks inherent in any kind of activity and must agree to assume those risks on his/her own behalf, releasing and holding harmless the City, its of�icers or agents from all claims for injury or losses suffered from participation.

Bond & levy projects update In 2018, voters voiced their strong support for the future of Eugene’s parks. Just two short years later, the pandemic has shown how crucial parks are for our physical and mental health, and the importance of investing in these public spaces.

Parks staff has been busy at work on everything from strengthening safety and security efforts and increasing park maintenance, to planning park renovations and the creation of new parks in underserved areas. In a short time, your vote of confidence in our Parks program is already making Eugene a cleaner, greener and safer community. To stay up to date on these projects visit our website.

Downtown Riverfront Park After many years of planning this legacy project, construction is well underway to create spaces for broad river views, new bicycle and pedestrian paths, seating and overlooks. The park is on track to be completed in late spring of 2021.

Berkeley Park This southwest Eugene neighborhood park is scheduled for a complete renovation to begin in 2021. A community engagement process was completed in 2019 that prioritized a larger playground, sand and nature play, an irrigated lawn and looped walking path.

Suzanne Arlie Park Ridgeline Trail & Access The master plan for the largest park in Eugene’s system has been completed and features a network of interconnected trails for nature-based recreation, disc golf, programmed group camping, a mountain bike skills park, and habitat conservation and restoration efforts which are already underway. The first phase of park development is bond funded and will include habitat enhancements, an extension of the Ridgeline Trail and mountain bike trails.

Construction is expected in 2022.

Delta Ponds Loop Trail The City has been awarded a $350,000 grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department to complete the Delta Ponds Loop Trail. This grant provides an excellent opportunity to leverage existing funding from the bond to increase recreational access to our urban natural areas.

Construction on the trail connection will complete this one-mile loop and is scheduled to begin in 2021.

Striker Field Park Final designs for this 8-acre park include a large playground, court games (basketball, pickleball and petanque), restrooms, picnic shelter and informal amphitheater for community gatherings. The park is currently on schedule for construction to begin in summer 2021.

West Bank Path Lighting The West Bank Path Renovation Project will be constructed in 2020 and replace approximately one mile of the Ruth Bascom Path between Stephens Drive and Copping Street (funded by pavement bonds) with new lighting extending to Maurie Jacobs Park (funded

by Parks and Recreation bonds). The lighting system utilizes energy-efficient LED technology designed to meet desires for lighted alternative transportation routes between the River Road neighborhood and downtown with considerations for potential adverse impacts to habitat and wildlife.

Amazon Running Trail Construction has begun on the renovation of the South Amazon Running trail. The beloved trail footprint will not change. The trail will be rebuilt with a new rock base and new mulch surfacing improving the drainage and providing a more stable and durable running surface. Other improvements include upgrades to the lighting and distance markers.

Santa Clara Community Park Santa Clara Park is a future 35-acre community park currently comprised of two open fields with informal walking paths on the north and east sides of Madison Middle School. There’s not much there right now but it’s full of possibility. Opportunities for you to weigh in will continue through the fall as we ask the community to envision the newest and largest park in Santa Clara.

Construction is anticipated in 2022.

Seal of Approval You didn’t need to see a stamp to know Eugene Rec is pretty darn good at what it does. But we and our friends at Parks and Open Space went ahead and got one anyway to make it official that our community is seriously invested in Parks and Recreation.

As of September we are now nationally accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies and the National Recreation and Park Association. While that’s a mouthful, what it really means is that we are meeting the highest standards established in our profession and that we are worthy of your ongoing trust for the work we do on your behalf. We had to demonstrate compliance in 151 areas and it helped identify efficiencies and heighten areas of accountability, all of which translate to higher quality service.

It was a two-year process to go through the rigorous steps, but doing a deep dive on our divisions helped us realize just how proud we are.

We love this city and its Parks and Recreation system. We are two divisions chock full of smart, enthusiastic people who care deeply about Eugene, and we’re thrilled to share this honor with you.
