What State Proposition 64 Means in Elk Grove
Recreational use of marijuana is now legal under state law for those 21 and older, yet remains illegal in public places; where smoking tobacco is prohibited; within 1,000 feet of schools, day care, or youth center; and while driving or riding in a car. The City of Elk Grove prohibits commercial marijuana businesses, medical marijuana dispensaries, and outdoor marijuana cultivation. State law allows indoor personal cultivation of up to six marijuana plants in a private residence or associated accessory structure, subject to regulations adopted by the City of Elk Grove. Two minutes may be all the time you have to get out safely once your home’s smoke alarm sounds. Be prepared! Create your escape plan by following these steps: • Draw a floor plan of your home including all doors and windows. • Indicate all working smoke alarms. • Map two ways out of each room. • Choose a place (e.g., tree, mailbox, etc.) where everyone should meet. • Rehearse your plan at night and during the day at least twice a year. Plow to Plate Help Yourself to Seconds…While Helping Local Kids for Years to Come Saturday, September 9 | 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Rhoads School | Elk Grove Regional Park Diners at the “Plow to Plate” fundraiser will enjoy great food while helping local youth. Chef Danny Origel from Meadowlands Kitchen and Bar, assisted by Burke Family Catering, will prepare a menu with locally-sourced food from Lucky Dog Ranch, Davis Ranch, and other farms from our area. Proceeds benefit the Rhoads School Scholarship Fund of the Elk Grove Historical Society disadvantaged children in our community with costs of participating in the Living History Program. The historic school schedules nearly 75 classes per year that connect children of today with the concept of a pre-electronic life via “a day at school in the 1890s.” During the sessions, children dress in costumes and are taught by trained docents about life during the 1800s.
