As construction on Elk Grove’s newest park nears completion, the City is preparing for the official opening of The Preserve at District56. Located in the center of the city at District56, this unique 30-acre park will feature an expansive natural environment in urban Elk Grove. While amenities such as meandering paths, a fitness court, and a children’s play area have been thoughtfully added, the heart of the Preserve is the pond. The Preserve will provide an experience that provides the feeling of an escape without leaving the city.
Mental health crises are a sad, scary, and very real part of life in any community. Each year, Elk Grove’s Police Department (EGPD) responds to hundreds of emergency calls associated with mental health crises using a holistic intervention approach. With support and specialized training, Elk Grove’s Mobile Crisis Support Teams (MCSTs) assess an individual’s needs, develop a plan for mediating a mental health crisis, and connect individuals to services and resources to meet their needs. The need to mediate mental health crises continues to increase—last year alone, MCST had 485 interventions. Building on the success of this program, which was established in 2017, EGPD has expanded to include two teams. Each team is comprised of a specially trained officer and a licensed mental health professional from the County’s Behavioral Health Services division. Together, the teams combine compassion and professional support when helping individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
