Recycle Your Christmas Tree
Recycle your tree using curbside service, or take it to a recycling facility. Here’s how:

Remove tree from stand. Remove ornaments, lights, tinsel, and metal rod supports from tree. For Curbside Service, place your tree* curbside next to your green waste container by 6 a.m. during the week of December 31 (excluding January 1), January 14, or January 28. OR Take your tree of any size, free of charge, to either the Special Waste Collection Center (9255 Disposal Lane, Elk Grove) or Elder Creek Transfer and Recovery Station (8642 Elder Creek Road, Sacramento). Artificial, flocked, or “live” trees with root balls will not be accepted.
* Trees taller than 6 feet must be cut into 3-foot or shorter pieces and placed in your green waste container. Please ensure pieces fit completely with the lid closed.

Elk Grove Offers Many Ways to Salute and Honor our Veterans
Marking a new street in the southern part of town is a sign that reads “Charles Morris Way.” Along Elk Grove Boulevard at Big Horn Boulevard hangs a banner with the same name. These are two ways the family of Charles W. Morris, Sr., a WWII Navy veteran, has honored him. You can honor someone too, through the City’s Street Naming and Military Street Banner programs. Recycle Your Holiday String Lights
For proper disposal and recycling, take your broken or unwanted holiday corded or string lights to City Hall (8401 Laguna Palms Way) between December 3 and January 31. The service is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both indoor and outdoor lights are accepted. Large lighted holiday decorations such as inflatables and lighted tree/reindeer sculptures are not accepted. If you choose not to take your broken or unwanted holiday lights to City Hall for recycling, please place them in your trash bin.
Elk Grove proudly displays banners on streetlights located along Elk Grove Boulevard and Civic Center Drive (between Big Horn Boulevard and Laguna Springs Drive). Displayed for one year, the banners feature retired or honorably discharged members of the United States Armed Forces residing in Elk Grove or those who resided in Elk Grove and are now deceased. Businesses or individuals may sponsor a military street banner for a $150 fee. Applications are accepted year-round.

17th Annual Veterans Day Parade
Honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans by attending the annual Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, November 11. Opening ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. at the Elk Grove Shopping Center on Elk Grove-Florin Road (9408 Elk GroveFlorin Road). The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and proceed south on Elk Grove-Florin Road, ending at Elk Grove Regional Park. Submit a request at least three days prior to your trip and police volunteers will check the exterior of your home while you’re gone. They’ll even secure any delivered packages until your return. Police Patrols Increase During the Holidays
The Elk Grove Police Department will once again provide additional officers to patrol local shopping centers this holiday season. Officers will be in marked patrol vehicles, unmarked vehicles, and on foot—helping to keep shoppers safe and prevent crime.
Don’t Be a Target for Theft, Stay Safe while Shopping with these Tips from EGPD: • • • • • • • • • •
Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Do not leave packages or valuables in plain sight inside your vehicle; hide them before you reach your destination or take items with you. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Carry limited credit cards and cash to make purchases. Carry your purse under your arm and close to your body. Put wallets in an inside pocket of your jacket or a front pants pocket. If shopping after dark, shop with a friend, if possible. Always park your car in a well-lit area. Scan the parking lot from inside the store before exiting. If you observe something that makes you feel unsafe, ask the store to have someone help you to your car. If you see suspicious activity, call EGPD. Always check the interior of your car before you unlock the door to get in. Lock your car doors and windows even if you are only gone for a few minutes.

Free (or Low-Cost) Fix for Your Pet!
For a limited time, Elk Grove Animal Services is offering FREE spay/neuter vouchers for all cats and Chihuahuas and half off vouchers for all other breeds. Price varies by weight of the animal but costs as little as $20 with the voucher. Vouchers also cover the cost for microchipping, vaccinating (rabies only), and animal licensing for one year. In addition to providing health and behavior benefits, this routine surgery helps prevent unwanted litters and the needless euthanization of millions of dogs and cats (including puppies and kittens) each year. Vouchers for use at participating clinics are available to Elk Grove residents only. To request your FREE or half-off voucher, call 916-687-3042.
With the storm season upon us, it’s time to check your storm drains. Help prevent flooding in streets and homes—here’s what you can do: • Keep storm drains clear of leaves and debris—never wash debris down the drain. • Place leaves and other yard debris in your green waste container—not in the street. • Have more green waste than container space? Call Republic Services at 916-635-2500 to request an additional cart; residents can have up to three green waste carts without additional charge. Green waste can also be taken to the Recycle Area at the Special Waste Collection Center (9255 Disposal Lane) free of charge. • Report a clogged storm drain or storm water drainage problem by calling the Public Works 24-hour hotline at 916-687-3005. Experience the magic of an old-fashioned Christmas as you step inside the Elk Grove House and Stage Stop, where all nine rooms are decked out with Victorian-themed holiday décor. Kids are sure to enjoy decorating cookies in the kitchen and visiting with Santa (Saturday and Sunday only). Professional photos with Santa can be purchased for $15. Admission is $5 per person, which supports the Elk Grove Historical Society’s operations.
Run, walk, or wobble your way to the finish line of this family-friendly event. Choose the 10k, 5k, or kids’ fun run to kick off your Thanksgiving. All event proceeds benefit Chicks in Crisis, a non-profit that helps reduce the number of infants facing abandonment, foster care, abuse, or even death. Feel good about helping others first before helping yourself to seconds this Thanksgiving Day.
