A Banner Year for Elk Grove Vets New Military Banner Program Honors Hometown Heroes
An estimated 9,000 veterans call Elk Grove home. To honor those residents who served in the United States Armed Forces, the Elk Grove City Council recently approved the creation of a Military Street Banner Program. Making their debut the week of Veterans’ Day, the banners will adorn streetlights along Elk Grove Boulevard and Civic Center Drive between Big Horn Boulevard and Laguna Springs Drive. Those eligible for the program include retired or honorably discharged members of the United States Armed Forces who reside in Elk Grove, or resided in Elk Grove and are now deceased. Applications will be accepted year-round and banners honoring local service members will be displayed for a year. Retired banners will be given to the honoree or their family. Businesses or individuals may sponsor a military street banner honoring a veteran for a $150 donation. For more information, visit www.elkgrovecity.org/banners.
