Together. Despite the COVID-19 public health crisis, City planning and construction activity is continuing on several major projects. The shelter in place order made us rethink the way we do business! City staff has developed innovative solutions to continue to improve travel, add new public amenities, protect our environment, and serve the current and future needs of our community.

PLANNING FOR HOUSING FOR ALL The housing crisis is impacting Elk Grove— affecting many of the people working in positions that support Elk Grove’s quality of life. People like retail clerks, manicurists, preschool teachers, landscapers, truck drivers, data entry workers, medical assistants, EMT/paramedics, mail carriers, administrative assistants, electricians, and auto mechanics make between $25,750 to $66,900 annually, making them lower income. With California’s median home price of over $600,000 this limits their housing choices or requires them to spend more than fifty percent of their income on housing.
As a community, Elk Grove is stepping up to help. Every eight years the City is required to prepare a plan for housing, identifying ways the City can support housing development and, most importantly, sites that support different types of housing for the full range of incomes. This plan is part of the General Plan. Selecting these sites, particularly those that support lower income households, is a challenging task and the City needs your help. What sites would you select and how would you allocate them across the City? Would you increase density on some of the existing sites?
